For me, it was the room with three golems in the Fade, playing on Nightmare difficulty with my dual weilding rogue. I hadn't yet acquired the arcane horror form so I didn't have the luxury of using Crushing Prison. Basically ran all over the building jumping between normal, burning man and golem form to use my poultices, fire balls and hurl abilities respectively.

Cauthrien, without a doubt.

No, wait, it was that one time I, for some reason, had no party members with me and had to fight my way into Redcliffe after the Landsmeet. I could take everything else but that last ogre...what was I supposed to do when it picked me up and didn't let me go until I was dead?

Staying in the room with Cauthrien is easily no1 imo. That woman and her hit squad > the blight.

Why didn't we send them out there to face the darkspawn again?

Actually Cauthrien herself isn't that hard. Getting zergrushed by 4 mages and a bunch of stun-happy warriors was what got me. Cauthrien goes down like a truck stop hooker once you polish off her retinue.

I lit her on fire.

SRSLY!

Cauthrien: Halt!  You are under arrest for the murder of Arl Rendon Howe!
PC: Right of Conscription!
Cauthrien: ... :o

I lit her on fire.

Ah, she would blend right in to Denerim under siege then.

My very first playthrough I was absolutely destroyed by the one large room in the Blood Mage hideout in Denerim with the three mages, before I learnt the joy of the Insta-Mage-Gib spell line. Those three just were unstoppable with the fireballs, and LOS didn't help with two to three entrances at each chokepoint.

Cauthrien? No problem. Gaxkang? Pie. Broodmother? Aside from emotional scars, no big deal. Dragons? I may as well go make a sandwich.

But those skeletons that gank you in the center of that huge room in the ruins during Nature of the Beast? Sends me running in circles flailing and screaming like a little girl every time. It doesn't matter how much crowd control I use!

For some reason I always (and I mean at least once every playthrough) die in the Fade. It's the section with right after the servants who randomly attack and the four demons that comes out of the fireplace...those four mages in the next room always manage to take me down and I still have no idea why...

Fire always kills me....in the fade. I will open a door and not realize the room is on fire...*dies* Hopefully that never happens.

The Corrupt Spider Queen sticks out in my head as one of the toughest fights I've gone through. Well, it was particularly tough because it was my very first game and I was still learning on normal.

My tactic is usually to open the door, close it, run away, then prep up some fireballs with Burning Man form. Either I can blow them away as they cluster in the door, or they dont notice me and tear each other apart.

So much This.  I seemed to get chain webbed every time on that fight.  I'm not sure, but I think it got easier after a patch.

I got my arse absolutely handed to me by the False Andraste! That dragon wiped me out SO MANY TIMES, my warden was nothing but a grease-mark on the ruins. Then I figured out the best tactics and it was easy. But I'll tell you, I was about ready to just shut it down! Nightmare was EXACTLY that! :(

- Those golems when you fight Branka at the end of sleep roads... I mean deep roads

- The spider queen

- Legion spirits

The deep roads quests pissed me off like hell when I was playing the game for the first time. I barely ever had healing potions. And Cauthrien was easy in my expirience :)

While not as tough as others, the Refugee sidequest is one I find challenging, as I actually try to save the NPC's; not just survive the encounter. Save for the Elven archers behind barricades vs Darkspawn random encounter.

But the female commander Cauthrian is a steady diet of blood and bruises, to be sure.

Judging by number of tries alone, i'd have to say archdemon.

Nemesis, thy name is Jarvia.

Four hours on first playthrough on Hard. Zevran gets a lucky acid flask to eke out a win.

(Silly me, I should've gone to mages tower for Wynne.)

My first playthrough mage died in every major fight. She was sooo fragile. She died about 45 times all together.

My rouge now is different. I always think - ah, now it gets tough... *stab stab stab* all enemies dead.

I'm 3/4 done with the game and died 6 times only. I'm curious how Howes dungeon is gonna be. My mage was unconcious almost the whole dungeon...

Herm... Cuetherin or w/e was rough... But my own hardest encounters were trying to get the various pieces of the Juggernaught set.. Those Revenants mopped the floor with me at least 5 times each... It was my first playthrough, and I did attempt that side-quest at level 12 with absolute horrid equipment.. But wow.. Aside from that, not much was hard..

There was one encounter in the Deep road tunnels where both my tank & off tank had w/e spell that does DoT and prevents you from healing.. They both immediatly hat that spell on them, and stunned, so the Orange Hurlock Alpha or w/e could tear them both appeart.. then proceed to chop my two mages appart...

Rexgang or w.e? Meh.. High dragon? with an underpowered, undergeared party.. kinda rough.. The Archdemon? lol.. The Architect? lol..

I'd have to say the only thing in Awakening to suprise me was the Mother... Despite having the game on nightmare, and having the best gear from both Origins & Awakening, and being level 33 into the fight and fully min/maxed party.. I actually had to try that fight...

I feel sorry for whom'ever stole Vigilance from me.. Because my duel-wield warrior could probably destroy a small nation by himself... Judging from how things went in Awakening...

I found Gaxkang surprisingly easy, after hearing so much hype about him. But then I was a pretty high level when I fought him.

With Gaxkang you can get lucky and the fight will be a breeze. But if he's able to throw some of his nastier stuff at you and you're not resistant enough... I needed a couple tries on my first playthrough.

But then again, on my first playthrough almost every fight that involved mages scared the crap out of me.
