I was thinking and I wondered if you were going to fight/find a reaper on or near Earth.
Reapers seemed to have inspired Cthulhu in the ME universe since both
Inspire madness and have cults (Indoctrination)
resemble evil cuttlefishes (Cthulhu's body could mean the reaper was seen in its alt mode)
Be abominations from space intent on ending life.
The Reapers are called the Old Machines by the Geth and Cthulhu's priests refer to the gods (Cth included) as the Great Old Ones
Even people who aren't in their cults are driven insane (The doctor on Eden Prime from ME1)
lets not forget the "Even Dead Gods Dream" quote

The Reason I think you'd find a reaper on Earth is  because of the phrase associated with Cthulhu
"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" which translated as "In his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming." (From wikipedia)
It is possible in a previous extinction cycle, the dominant aliens knew earth as R'lyeh since "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" is an inscription on the Charon Relay so they could have wrote it there as a warning to any races that might happen into the local cluster. They also put warnings with that inscription on Earth itself in case it didn't sink in the first time.
It could have been what hit what is now  the Yucatan Peninsula and wiped out the dinosaurs instead of a meteorite. And the cultists would know what the inscription meant since the Reaper would still be speaking to them.
