Although I like Thane somewhat, he just doesn't fit in the story too well. It's not as if my Shep. is going all 'Splinter Cell' during the suicide mission.

Pretty neutral. His relationship with his son was pretty cute, and I liked his loyalty quest, otherwise he's just... Meh.
He pretty successfully creeps me out, though. Empty fisheye look, unnerving flashbacks, starts calling my character 'Siha' even though I didn't act particularly nice to him. I guess it would've been cute if he started calling you Siha if you pursued romance, but him just starting to say it out of the blue is just... Creepy.
Kind of like how your femshep is overly suggestive with Jacob from the start. It didn't feel right.

He didn't click with me. I found him fleshed out but his personality just bored me. And his retarded justification for killing had something to do with that as well. The memories thing was also annoying.
In battle he always dies quickly for me too.
So I guess I 'unlove' him.
I agree about the killing thing and memories, but I actually liked him in combat, b/c I like characters with range to snipe, plus warp is awesome. Shredder ammo can die in a car fire, and it irritates me he didn't have Kasumi's cloak and shadow strike thing. The Cut-Scene Thane would kick in-game Thane's corpse across the galaxy.
Other than that, I found his personality interesting, a mix of super-seriousness, sentimentality and a subtle dry humor ("You can change your pants in a moment Mouse". )

I like Thane's character and he is the best choice for a love interest in the second game, not counting the first. I must say, however, that the importance of his role in ME2 is if not nonexistant....then questionable. What was his purpose really? Like Kasumi and a few others, I was left scratching my head over that question. His character development was interesting (could have been expanded upon of course, but so many characters!) and I was left with what I see more as a pleasant vignette than something that is fully fleshed out and woven into the main story.

Being a spiritual assassin is a little...silly.
I mean, he prays for forgiveness, then goes right on with his killing again.

The 'perfect memory' of his species doesn't make a great deal of evolutionary sense. Regardless of the benefit of being able to remember where resources are on a sparse world, any situation which reminds you of a time you suffered a serious injury risks an experiential simulation of that injury, which is highly dangerous, since situations which remind you of being injured tend to be dangerous ones which require all your focus.

I personally really liked Thane. Actaully, before I got the game, I had everything planned out. I knew I was going to go with Garrus, etc, and guess who I ended up with?
I don't see why Thane has such mixed reactions. I thought he had a really likable personality and backstory, and was the best romance choice in either game. He was a romantic, as well, which is always nice (though we Thane romancers get kind of ripped off; Garrus romancers get to see him in casual clothes, JAcob romancers get to see him shirtless, but we get nothing).
I will agree, though, that Thane's role in the game was pretty minimal. At the end, it seemed like the most important person, next to Shepard was Miranda, who I absolutly detested.
I hope we get to see a lot more of Thane in upcoming DLC and in Mass Effect 3.

Thane did have his moments. I romanced him through one of my playthroughs, mostly for kicks -- but hey, DoomedMello, at least Thane lovers get a kiss. It kinda makes up for him coming into your room crying. Garrus romancers get an awkward headbump.

I'm neutral as far as my opinion of Thane is concerned.
He had some interesting elements to him, but there's nothing about his character that I could really relate to. Actually, that's how I felt about most of the new characters that Bioware introduced in ME2. Still, his conversations seemed to flow a lot better than most in the game.
As far as his romance was concerned; The "Siha" bit was endearing at first, until I found out that Shepherd seems to have become some kind of stand-in for his deceased wife. I generally went the friends route because of this.
I never did understand the physical attraction thing. Bioware supposedly designed him to appeal to women. Unfortunately, whenever I look at him I see those fin things on the sides of his head (over the red parts) and it reminds me of some balding old man with a crown of white hair around his scalp. It also doesn't help that he sounds like a chain smoker when he talks.
In the end, it seems that Thane just became another of many flashy new characters to me. Few of which had any depth to them.

I did not like the flashback thing, nor his justification for killing. I do not like or dislike him, I am pretty neutral since while he did nothing to endear me to him, he never got in my way or bothered me either.

He was cool and all, but overall I thought he was pretty meh. But maybe that was because he had more of a laid back personality. Only thing I disliked about Thane was that "crazy eyes" thing he does. Every time he stared that, I wish I had an option to slowly back out of the room with Shepard.

Well, as evidenced by my avatar, I like him. He's possibly my favorite squadmate in the game. His perfect memories, his eyes, his history with the hanar, the whole spirituality deal of soul and body being seperate entities. I liked all of that. When I romanced him as FemShep, I never felt she was just a replacement for his deceased wife. If he doesn't get cured, I at least hope ME3 occurs soon enough after 2 that Thane is still living.

He's not remorseful for his assassinations, it's other things he's done that he regrets.
ME is full of cliches
Garrus/Tali the old friend turned lover, etc
He works pretty well for me as a squadmate too--warp+throw+sniping. And he's the only squadmate that CROUCHED, so he doesn't really die as often as the others for me.
I agree that his flashbacks are kinda disturbing lol

I never felt Thane was cliche. At all. He's pretty cool, just weird that he didn't really have a specific role in the suicide mission.

And how Shepard sounds so urgent when he says "HOWAREYOUDOINGKELLY" I mean, I hardly even talked to her and Shepard's acting like she's his lover. Anyways, Thane should have the monopoly on flashbacks, thank you.Nightwriter wrote...

Thane really took me by surprise. I started the game with the intention of staying loyal to Kaidan and was doing a pretty good job of sticking with that. FemShep’s initial interactions with Jacob turned me off of that romance pretty quickly, and I completely missed the cue with Garrus the first time around.
I recruited Thane late into my game, but was immediately impressed the second he dropped from that ceiling. At first, I just thought he was a cool character and was interested in finding out more about him and the Drell, in general. It wasn’t until my second or third conversation with him that I started secretly hoping he was “romaceable”. Once I realized he was, I practically squeeeeed. I do find him aesthetically pleasing, but I also find his spirituality, background, and even the flashbacks fascinating, and appreciate how he treats Shepard as an equal – in both their professional and personal relationship.
And I don’t see him using Shep as a replacement for his wife - he even tells you as much if you choose that dialogue option. I got the impression that he received his closure once he killed all those responsible for her death. And in context, bringing her up was not only a way of explaining things to Shepard, but also opening himself up to someone for the first time in years. I’d also like to think my Shepard shared her feelings on Kaidan with him, behind the scenes anyway. It doesn’t mean that Thane is replacing him.

One of my favorite characters. A little cliched in parts but frankly, most ME2 characters were completely cliched so he was pretty original by comparison. I've always had a soft spot for characters looking for redemption.

The spiritual assasin thing has been done before. Though really, you can't be truly original with characters anymore. Almost every archtype has been done before, so I don't mind something being a little cliche.Collider wrote...
