To be fair, he used to kill for the Hanar state. That absolves him morally of those at least.Barquiel wrote...
As I said in the poll section...
I hate his excuse for killing.
This "Thane's body kills people. Thane's mind and soul don't" nonsense...
I think he's a hypocrite. That's the reason why I like Morinth/and hate Thane.
They are both no saints (Thane killed for money, Morinth for pleasure), but Morinth makes no excuses for what she is.

The hanar released him from his compact to let him have a family, but with no other skills, Thane freelanced his services. However, after the birth of their son Kolyat, Irikah was murdered in revenge for a batarian mercenary leader who Thane had killed.

Morinth is a lying monster.
She never lied.
Morinth just says that Shepard is different (cipher, back from the dead)...that's true. If Shepard is stupid enough to melt with her...it's not her fault^_^

She's inherently broken and unfixable.

maybe, but my point was this...
She is at peace with what she is. She makes no excuses for it.
...unlike Thane (only my body kills people)!

True, he does do these horrible things. He bears a philosophical attitude about it though. That's why I like him he's truly alien. He's still looking for redemption though so no matter what he says he still feels some sort of guilt or need to better the world.Barquiel wrote...

Either way, technically, Shepard, Jacob, and all the other guys who fight for paychecks aren't any better or worse than an assassin who kills for a paycheck.
They do what they can to survive, and quite possibly, improve the place that they're in.

Part one I agree with.RShara wrote...
Other than the hanar contracts, he never says clearly what kind of contracts he takes. It could just as easily have been taking contracts on "bad" people, like slavers and so forth.

Part two is just ignorant however. Jacob, yes but Shepard never kills anyone who doesn't deserve it.

I don't know...renegade Shepard (rachni queen, Shiala)
Jacob, Shepard,... are soldiers. Freelance assassins are criminals (they work for everyone who pays enough). There is a difference imo.

Jacob's a terrorist. Whatever his intentions that makes him worse than a criminal.

Please don't go there. I have family in the military and this could get really bad. Soldiers are not equivalent to murderers. /topicRShara wrote...
Soldiers do what they're ordered to (most), and don't generally have enough of a grasp of the situation, or care, whether those orders are "good" or "bad"

Thane appears to have some qualms. Morinth has absolutely none. Thane is willing to redeem himself. Morinth isn't.
Thane wins.
Incidentally, I was wrong - there's one character who makes less sense as a party member than Thane. And that's Morinth. What kind of idiot would Shepard have to be to recruit her?
I'd much rather have a conflicted killer working for me than a complete sociopath who feels no guilt about what she does. There's a reason why the CIA and FBI don't want sociopaths working for them. The guilt might hold Thane and others like him back. But there's nothing holding back Morinth and other sociopaths except their own will to survive. That makes them untrustworthy.

At the end, his victims are dead (or do you really think Thane never killed innocents)?
He has a free will and can choose to stop being an assassin (after released by the hanar)...he did not.
instead: "his services were up to the highest bidder"
his excuse: "I am just a tool"
At least, Morinth is honest.
reasons for recruiting her? I prefer Samara, but..
- Samara could attack renegade Shepard
- potential
Samara is powerful, but Morinth is equally powerful (+ younger) and every melting makes her stronger.

But Thane does choose to stop being an assassin. It's why he joins Shepard.
Uh, he was quitting either way. It was to be his last job, if you listen to his conversation in Nassana's office. In fact, he was expecting to die.
