hi there. just one little question: will there ever be an updated script for the lightmapper?

we all appreciate your work but there are numerous bugs and glitches with the currently available eclipseray 1.2 as you can read at the appropriate threads. e.g.:
- black spots randomly placed at the lightmaps around tesselation borders
- shiny blue shade at models
- black dots (noisy lightmap texture) randomly placed at indoor levels
- bugged and therefore corrupted lightmap of a chunk if more than one static/animated light lits it
- normal maps are not passed through to lightmapper while rendering the maps
- wrong calculated intensity value of baked (ambient) lights
- alpha maps are not rendered correctly -> spider webs drop a shadow but they should not do so
- light probes are not rendered correctly -> they all show the same mirrored texture

please add known bugs ^_^

would be cool if you could find the needed time to help us modders. thanks in advance!

Support bump. Lighting is such an important element for getting your levels to really shine and any help from Bioware on these remaining issues would be hugely appreciated.

I agree :)

I've been able to work around most of the issues so far but they are pretty annoying. Light probes and alpha maps not working are especially annoying.

right now i got an indoor level with thousands of black spots sprayed at the walls only in 2 rooms. it makes no difference if i change the intensity of the lights nor using baked/static lights. i've also played around with all possible room property settings. i can recalculate (after deleting the .erf or the lvlworkspace) but these dots are still there - and it looks so disgusting... with the current renderer modders have to deal with lousy lighting. everybody who's creating levels will confirm this.

at this state creating visually stunning levels will be almost impossible!

so bioware -PLEASE- help us. we know right now you are very busy but don't drop the support for the toolset.

Maybe we can sign a petition and submit it to Bioware? :-)

I'm not big on petitions, but I'll keep this thread alive so someone at Bioware can at least give us an answer. I actually never realized how bad our solution was, until I booted up some old saves from the OC to do some comparisons.

I think I'll send a PM to Allen and Brian. Where the hell have those guys been? :bandit:

the last month i spent almost all my time to play around with different light settings and lights only to come to the point that the renderer is just a simple and quick solution. maybe i am just a bit over the top perfectionist but i hate it if my levels lack in visual quality :D

maybe we could also ask the creators of yafaray to help?
it would be good too if the eclipseray could be updated to yafaray instead of yafray... if that's possible and makes sense.

i think we would never get the exact superb lighting atmosphere bioware created with their third party lightmapper. in fact personally i can live with it. it would be a huge improvement if they could get rid of the most annoying bugs so that the shadowmaps will be calculated properly. yaf(a)ray is possible of doing great things but it's not attuned right to the engine so i guess. i am missing eye candy^^

aye, the corruptability is a real pain and has cost me hours, though im getting better at avoiding its sticky grasp. if even a couple of the above mentioned bugs could be addressed, this would be well worth the update. pretty please bioware :)

nope, not really. instead i'm hoping to hear something new from bioware. at least there's chewy and perhaps his success with his own solution ;)

(the only thing i am able to do is bump this thread on top from time to time)

Adding my support for a lightmapper update. The number of issues and effect they have on creating visually acceptable levels really reduces the quality of the mods that the community is able to produce.
