This could be a pretty nice change of pace, and if anything else it could just be fun playing as a darkspawn. My one hope is that Lothering is a playable area and we get to find Sten trapped in the cage and see him devoured.
Nope. It just says Denerim

Oh there are problems with the 360 version.
Guess I haven't run into them yet.
Examples?
http://social.biowar.../index/423972/1
On the 360 there is a limit to title updates, DLC is a way to circumvent that, I hope there are some fixes in this DLC
I wouldn't have high hopes on this, it could happened as in RTO, the DLC broke many things and EA had to issue patch 1.03... and for Awakenings, none of the original bugs were fixed i.e. the dex bug among others, so the most likely is that all the bugs in Xbox shall remain.

If you consider this roleplaying, every game is a roleplaying game as you always play a role. Even the worst shooter you do not play as yourself but play a role. To me, simply playing a role does not make a game an rpg. And i agree, the former dlc's did not add that much to the roleplaying character of Origins, but they didnt take anything away of it either. That new dlc seems to be a different story.
Slashing and killing is not necessarily a bad thing, it's just not DAO for me. There are many games who exceeds in that, graphically, gameplay wise and more. DAO is a story and character driven game, that's why i bought and loved it, and therefore, everything that denies that strength by trying to build on something DA is simply not is not interesting to me. I like to play sword slashing games from time to time, but they are different in many respects from Origins and neither can mimic the other or should try to do so. That's my opinion.
Just like Bayonetta would offer some story and character driven additonal content. Would simply not work. Same is true vice versa for Origins. Focus on what the peple loved and what you're good at and do not try to mimic something you and you're game are not.
I actually would technically consider any game in which you play a role to be a role-playing game. But I don't just call the DLC an RPG because you're still playing a role -- it's because you're still playing a role, in a game which still has the basic gameplay mechanics of an RPG. It may be.. story-lite, or story-nonexistent, perhaps (although it's still set in the story of Ferelden, at least), but it's not on the level of labeling a game from an entirely different genre an RPG.
I don't see how the DLC takes anything away from Origins. It's set in an alternate reality, so it neither adds to nor takes away from the main story. Although, perhaps seeing how our party would have fared without The Warden to lead them will provide us with more insight into our characters than we would have expected. (granted.. I doubt it.)
I do understand that this DLC may disappoint people looking for more story rather than hack and slash. Although, again, it's just a DLC. It's not DA2. I, for one, might welcome such a change of pace, were I not boycotting Bioware until they fix this broken mess.

At least it wasn't as bad as Mass Effect or KOTOR in that regard. After ME 2 being a polished product I have more hope for future releases.

Meh. I was hoping for DLC that would integrate into the main storyline. Even more, though, I was hoping for a patch. 1.03 is horribly bugged; I save compulsively, but I still hate the fact that I crash every other time I open my inventory.

Indeed, but ME2 was developed by a different team... so far the DAO side lacks of such a refinement, it's being 6 months with the original bugs and looking back, they'll release more DLC's for a original game with bugs.

1. Ooo, this sounds neat. I'll probably get it.
2. I'll wait for reviews. I thought previous DLC was overpriced and/or not worth my time.
3. I'll skip this one. Playing as the bad guys doesn't interest me.
4. I'm not interested. Come out with more DLC that expands the main storyline!
All four of those opinions is helpful to Bioware in making future DLC. If people were perfectly quiet then Bioware would just be taking shots in the dark.

We're all fans and customers. Just expressing my opinion, and I'll express it with my dollars too. If a person doesn't do that, then it's true that there's no room for complaint. As it is, I hope to be heard.Rhys Cordelle wrote...
This happens EVERY time new content becomes available in a game. People who want some other kind of content moan and complain that the devs aren't focusing on the right things. Get over it.
In Awakening and now in the DLC, there's a downgrade of party interaction and RPG (*sorry, grunting at a fellow hurlock does not qualify as deep RPG, which is why I play this game*). Maybe it's just the suits redlining the cost of writing and voice acting and not a creative decision, but whatever the reason for this shift away from what made DA:O great, I don't like it and don't want more of the same.

That's still a role, though. Perhaps a dull one, yes. Depends on how it plays out, really. (How do we know that the vanguard won't speak? The more powerful hurlocks are, according to the lore, known to be capable of speech, even prior to the unfoldings in Awakening.) But I see your point.
We also have to take into account that this isn't a game we're talking about, here, it's a $5 DLC. How much "role playing" did any of the other DLCs offer, really? Well, except Shale, but hers was a special case, because of all of the unused content already available for her. But the others are both hour long romps which do little to develop any of your characters in any significant way.
If you consider this roleplaying, every game is a roleplaying game as you always play a role. Even the worst shooter you do not play as yourself but play a role. This is one of those "internet debates" that never goes anywhere.
But essentially the "video game definition of RPG" has nothing to do with "playing a role". It's a game genre defined by conventions and inspirations and mechanics and so on.
People love saying Zelda is an RPG! because they can then start an argument. Quite franly w/ 90% of RPGs I play, I don't feel at all like I'm "playing a role". MMOs I do, but single player games, rarely.
An RPG is one of those "you'll know it when you play it" for instance Bioshock, NOT an RPG, despite "rpg elements' God of War NOT an RPG depsite "RPG elements"
Borderlands .. hybrid RPG, despite it being 90% shooter.
Games like Mass Effect 2 ruin genres. Which can be great for sales, but hurts genre fans in the long run.
While I enjoy ME2 a lot, I wish it were more RPG. And with ME2 sales being so good, more and more RPGs will follow ME2 and drop tricky RPG gameplay in favor of "loadouts" "maps" and linear cover shooting mechanics

Think of this adventure as your adventure, but YOU were never around to take part. Dragon Age: Origins was always the tale of the Grey Warden you created and how he or she became the mightiest of Grey Wardens and stopped the Blight. This adventure takes place as if your Grey Warden had never existed.
You play as a hurlock vanguard and use your new "Enthrall" ability to recruit your fellow darkspawn as allies. Partner with shrieks, genlocks, ogres and more. You will encounter characters from Dragon Age: Origins both party members like Alistair or Morrigan (for example) and NPCs who try to defend Denerim and stop the Darkspawn without your Grey Warden to guide them. As the darkspawn, you will have to defeat them to destroy Denerim.
If you choose to play Darkspawn Chronicles you can unlock 3 new achievements and, if you complete the story, you unlock the powerful new BlightBlood sword that you can use in Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age: Origins Awakening.
The Darkspawn Chronicles costs 400 BioWare or Microsoft points and will be available on May 18 for the PC and Xbox 360 and on the Playstation 3 with date to be announced shortly.
It's an interesting concept, and I applaud Bioware for thinking outside the box, but once again, just as with Awakening, my biggest concern is that it seems that we're never going to get any expansions or DLC that actually expand on or continue Origins. Awakening ignored the choices I made in Origins, only made sense while playing as the Orlesian Warden, and now this DLC wants me to imagine that my Grey Warden never existed. I was attached to my Grey Warden, and the characters I met in Origins. If I were to buy any more DA related games, I would want to continue that story. Playing as a mute darkspawn seems completely counter to the things I loved about Origins.
tl;dr: Thanks, but I'll pass.

And might I suggest mentioning what version of the game is required on the pages for these products? I understand that the Feastday DLC required 1.03, but nowhere do they appear to tell you this prior to you buying them. Anyone who cannot (or refuses to) run 1.03 would be able to buy the DLC and then unable to use it.

IDK man. For every "whiner" complaining about it, there are a dozen saying; "Yeah, sorry BioWare, you do good work, but this isn't what I'm looking for. Next please." Or, "Yeah, this looks interesting, but I won't buy it until these other problems are fixed." And this is also perfectly valid.
That's letting the producers know what you, as a consumer, are looking for. It's not a bad thing.
(And for every "whiner" there is also at least one person who seems to have nothing
better to do than poke at them and try and stir up strife where none
need exist.)
