I do hope this isn't the future for DLC though and we get DLC in the future that actually adds to and expands the world for us and our companions rather than these fun non connected expansions.

I don't hate the concept of playing as a darkspawn but I'm not sold on this scenario.
Besides it sounds like its just a hack and slash so I'll wait until other people post their reviews to see if adds anything to the game or not.

I don't understand how this works with the game lore. If your character dies, how does he/she become a darkspawn? The taint has killed the character, so there is no process of changing. Your PC is the first to wake up from death and become a darkspawn. Or is everyone else killed by the taint going to become a darkspawn too? And why wouldn't the wardens make sure anyone killed by the taint in the joining process (cutting off the head stake through the heart type of deal) was really dead if this was possible or they would be making darkspawn too. Who needs a broodmother? It sounds strange to me.

It's not your character. It's alternative history, and you play as a Hurluck.

Okay thanks...but its still a potential warden who dies so I'm left with more questions about how this works with game lore. And if its strictly a hack and slash well I'm not that interested.

It's not the "little bit of mindless fun" that concerns me. It is the trend.DWSmiley wrote...
I'm surprised at the number of tempests in this teacup. It's just a little $5 DLC that will be a bit of AU fun for some.
Seems that because Bioware thinks players have short attention spans, in Awakening we got paltry NPC interaction at contrived map points rather than Origins' immersive roleplay. RtO was poorly written and slapdash. If you keep shelling out $5 here and there for mindless junk, why should Bioware ever produce another epic, immersive game with expensive writers and voice actors?
I'm apathetic about this DLC because I have no interest in playing a darkspawn. But what I actively dislike is seeing a game world and characters I love used as props for a hack n' slash jerkoff. You have any one of dozens of MMOs that can provide you with that, if it's what you're after.

I, for one, would be interested in knowing the tactical side of combat from the Darkspawn perspective.
> Genlocks tend to be Rogue-like with stealth and DW; some use S&S. What kind of skills do they have and what level of Stealth?
> Hurloks tend to be 2H DPS types with heavier armor. What 2H skills do they have? Where are they vulnerable? How heavy is their armor?
> Ogres are just brutes. What is the cooldown time for their Grab skill and what is the chance of success? Where are they vulnerable - fire, ice, nature?
> Emissaries are the spell-casters. What spells do they have and how much mana do they possess? Are they vulnerable to any particular form of attack?
> Shreiks are AOE fighters with stealth. What forms of attack are they susceptible to most?
Knowing these sorts of details will help my "real universe" counterpart combat the Darkspawn as a whole. Do you see what I'm getting at? Not to mention the badass weapon that becomes available (BlightBlood).
And, no, I don't work for Bioware.

Fundamental example of strawman arguments
Criticism is one thing. It's all well and good, I've certainly been critical of Awakening and far more so of how BioWare is letting GreenDragon handle the P&P release of the franchise.
You're not making criticisms about the product however, you're making vague and baseless criticisms of the business behind the product based on your personal opinions.
Example:
Criticism: 'The storytelling in Awakening was far more watered down than in Origins. Not even a matter of less content, but that the social content that was there lacked the same edge. How the Joining was handled is a great example'. Can't get more into it without spoilers, but that's a good example.
Useless criticism: 'BioWare and EA are unprofessional because they have not told me exactly how and when they are doing X'. As you don't know what's going on, how or why but are just making vague assumptions and unproductive criticism, I don't really get how you expect to be taken seriously.
I don't know you, Abriael. Know nothing about you, who you are, what you do, what experience you do and do not have. Business I do know however. Especially software and software development for large businesses. If they've got 20 million copies out there, without question there will be a few thousand people with serious technical issues. Maybe 10 or 20 thousand with low to high level defects and a few thousand more with high to critical/showstopper defects. Almost all will be due to system-specific problems. Specific drivers with specific hardware, certain apps on a particular platform, etc. There will be some that are driven by bugs in the game code however but if 19,995,000 of your customers never encounter it how do you identify it?
So you have the issue of how to replicate the defect, identify the source of them, and then when possible create a patch that doesn't create an issue for a completely different set of five or ten or twenty thousand of your twenty million users.
I realize this probably doesn't matter to you, Abriael. I'm sure you'll try and dismiss the simple facts I've repeated above as some sort of product of my NOT hating BioWare for personal reasons like all proper, realistic and rational people seem to have to do in your world.
I don't debate with you to change your opinions. Just to remind people, and especially BioWare, that some people are reasonable and enjoy the game - and can still be reasonably critical of things from time to time.

I get your concern though I don't share it. $5 is a Big Mac & fries so if it provides an hour of play, I'm satisfied. Yes, that is a lot pricier proportionately than the main game but I don't mind BioWare subsidizing longer-term projects with a bit of extra cash flow.
I'm sure Bioware realizes why DA:O was a hit, so DLC sales should not affect the quality of DA:2. And I get that people have developed a real fondness for the companions - me, too (well, except Ohgren

Indeed. people that are whining about a patch in this thread are idiots and should take their questions to the appropriate forum called: technical support (platform) .
Having issues with bugs and patches is fine but stop whining and complain in the right forum

People who role play RPG's themselves are ****s, stop whining about 'it has 0 roleplaying value' OH NOES! Anyone that feels the need to do anything more than laugh during games needs to get a life, sorry but it's true.
To summarize, everybody who doesn't play for the same reasons you do, and doesn't think exactly like you do needs to get a life....noted.

An Idea...why not make Darkspawn Orgin story and campagin?
That would be awesome
IDK. I could see it being intriguing, if you hear the arch-demon's call in your head (this is how you are assigned quests?), and you still have some choice in how you complete the tasks or interact. Obvioulsy there wouldn't be any dialogue in a pre-Architect darkspawn story, but you could still use the dialogue mechanic to make choices like "slaughter entire family and move on", "slaughter family, animals, and ransack", "leave children/infirm alive to tell tales and spread terror" (Remember the ranting man in Lothering? While the darkspawn you play may not be thinking enough to consider such things, who's to say the archdemon may not?) In this way you could almost make decisions during your progression, placing yourself in the role of the absent arch demon commanding the forces on the ground, whom you can variously physically control or set to tactics, a la your current party members.
THIS kind of darkspawn DLC I'd be interested in playing, because it would really play on what I see as BioWare's strengths.

this price per hour talk is nonsense. by your line of reasoning, if a game you buy is 20 hours long(not exactly uncommon these days) and cost $60, a one hour dlc should be $3. but because dragon age is anywhere from 50-100 hours long the dlc should be what? $1? so, a company that gives you more value for your dollar in a game has to charge less for dlc than companies who make games with barely any content at all? you can't price a game proportionately. this is the dumbest thing gamers have ever come up with since every game is different in length and same in price. it's about enjoyment. if all you can do is calculate price per hour, you're probably doing the wrong thing in your spare time if that will make or break your experience.XX55XX wrote...
Just one question: How long will this DLC be? If it's going to be just a few hours of gameplay, they better price it proportionally. I will not pay $5 for just an hour of gameplay.
