That would be the ideal situation but I don't see it happening for both because of that technical issue (unless you'd just load two saves which.. would be strange). Even in the best case scenario it would seem like you'd just use the Origins save which unfortunately would negate the Awakenings as there is some good characters and good plot points in Awakenings. Even the best case scenario in my eyes is a bit of a compromise.

Has it been proven that Awakenings saves don't carry all your Origins flags (even if it doesn't use 99% of them)?

If not, Dragon Age 2 would deal with 4 kinds of people:

1. Did not play Origins or Awakenings = Default choices
2. Did not play Origins, played Awakenings = Default Origins choices, Awakenings flags imported from Awakenings save.
3. Played Origins, did not play Awakenings =  Origins flags imported from Origins save, Default Awakenings choices.
4. Played Origins and Awakens = Origins and Awakenings flags imported from Awakenings save.

If Awakenings doesn't preserve Origins choices, then yes - there could be problems.

I think I would or maybe will have trouble playing Darkspawn Chronicles.

Origins is written so well I feel commited to the Grey Warden cause and the various characters. I have experienced several play throughs of Origins using different characters achieving different endings, alway striving for the best possible out come. The thought  supporting, being the very thing I have tried to stop, and killing Alistar at the end slays me.  I'm trying to be open. I've downloaded all the other available DC but whew, I don't know about this one.

DC is in an alternate universe. This is not the Alistair you knew. This Alistair became king by his own efforts and is involved with Leliana as a love interest. He has nothing to do with your GW who, for all intents and purposes, did not even survive the Joining.

As far as the gaming aspect is concerned, it is a way to look at combat from the Darkspawn point of view. It should be regarded as an exercise in combat tactics and limitations of the Darkspawn abilities. You should approach this DLC with the mindset of a GW - I will become Darkspawn to learn how best to fight them. Victory - whatever it takes!

If that much is already pre-selected for me, it goes without saying that whatever happened with Morrigan, to keep low on the spoilers, will be as well in the sequels. That is not a future I wish to be part of.

While I do think this is a legit concern, I don't think it "goes without saying" that Dragon Age 2 will ignore your flags. Awakenings clearly had an extremely fast development cycle considering how shortly it came out after the main game and isn't a true sequel.

Basically, if I was Bioware, I wouldn't assume that everyone would buy Awakenings - but I would assume they'd buy Dragon Age 2. So I'd deal with as few flags as possible in Awakenings but create some new ones - --- and then deal with all flags in Dragon Age 2. So...

Dragon Age Orgins: Creates tons of flags.
Dragon Age Awakenings: Acknowledges a few flags, but doesn't deal with them. Creates some "bonus" flags.
Dragon Age 2: Deals with flags from DA:O (lots) and Awakenings (few). The players that didn't play Awakenings won't be particularly left out because the DA:A flags will just be minor scenes (similar to most ME1 reference scenes/characters in ME2).

And, of course, my conjecture above doesn't go without saying either. They could indeed just scrap DA:O flags.

I've been expecting it to be something like that. Of course, my dwarf warrior chose to follow through with Morrigan's offer, and my human mage will not, because I want to see how things work out either way.

I hadn't heard that it didn't carry all your flags over before now. Maybe its because I've only played Awakening with one of my Origins characters so far, but I didn't notice anything that would have seemed out of the ordinary given the decision my original Warden made. They reference the correct Dwarf king, the correct human shows up as king for a cameo, etc.

The selfish side of me is saddened that Alistar has a love interest.

Like I said, it might just be an Archdemon induced nightmare that green wardens have all the time. It was fun to play it and a relieve to have a new char right at Lothering start to keep playing after TDC so when they go to the camp for the first time and have that talk about nightmares... it all made sense.. hehe

Max stam/mana of emmissaries?  Cooldown times for Ogre attacks?  How long before an Ogre can Grab again?  What attack forms are they vulnerable to?  Fire?  Ice?  Lightning?  Spirit?  Nature?  What is their mental resistance?  Stuff like that . . .Image IPB

It just occurred to me that if just be living the experience of playing Origins, I cringe at the thought of being a Darkspawn, then what did the develpors go through to create and execute this. Mind blowing. Well this is coming from a person who has cried at the end of each play through. Oh and the music awesome. It's another aspect of the game I love. (With the exception of Liliana's camp solo. She looked to much like Chucky for me to take her seriously.)

However I do like the idea someone posted about Darkspawn Chronicles being nightmare that new Grey Wardens have...

Things you could not have learned simply by observing the packs of darkspawn you encounter in Origins?

If you say so.

As an extension to that interesting perspective,  I rather like the idea that every Grey Warden basically faces a subconcious, dark "It's a Wonderful Life" dream during the joining and if they can't hack it, they die.
And subconciously experiencing life as a darkspawn helps to contribute to their "connection" to the Darkspawn in addition to the literal taint.

My expectations for the compatibilities of your character in Origins to the new game are quite low. As far as awakening is concerned I wouldn't be surprised if they treat the expansion the same as they did with transferring the DLCs. By simply stating that Awakening was meant for Origins alone. The Lazarus Warden effect will also probably plague DA2 as well.

Just finished darkspawn DLC.... not impressed. I have seen mods that have better quality an idea than this. I actually regret the $5 for this crap. Bioware stop milking our great work with this crap and create real expansions. Awakening was not impressive either but passable. You guys are better than this stop listening to those EA jerk offs and do stuff right they will ruin your legacy to milk $5

It was created to gather revenues. And it seems it has. Which means more silly arsed stuff will follow. I doubt anything else of worth is slated for DA for anytime in the near future. It really seems their focus is on TOR and ME. 2 Close friends have just gotten DA:O/A and I just keep my opinions to myself, I want to see what they think of Awakenings etc..

Review about Darkspawn Chronicles: (Ouch to say the least)

I didn't think it was a bad DLC. I found myself feeling really sad about seeing my companions die and it actually made me want to get back into DA:O since putting it down for Mass Effect 2. Their alternate story lines were also interesing as was fighting random characters like Vaughn.

I quite liked this idea, so much in fact that it was the deciding
factor on me getting the Darkspawn Chronicles (I was already on the
fence, all I needed was a little nudge).

After beating it tonight I can say that it was pretty good. I'm a huge completionist and it took me around 2 1/2 hours to finish as I absolutely had to check every nook and cranny. Not to mention the fact that Sten just kept kicking my ass, he's a bad dude in this DLC.

 The Pros -
Well, the new weapon is cool and getting to use all the Darkspawn types was cool. The Ogre is incredibly fun to use. Game length is better than expected. Killing the many characters that they included was definitely fun, lots of old faces you will remember.

The Cons -       Very little replay value. There is really no story and the action is pretty fast paced in certain areas, basically all hack and slash.  For me this equals very little replay value, honestly this may be a one and done for me. You may feel differently.

Overall -            Darkspawn Chronicles is pretty fun the first time through and may provide replay value for some. If you are a big-time Dragon Age fan then I would say definitely get this, it's interesting to go through and see things from the enemies side.  For those who are just lukewarm about Dragon Age and those who dislike hack and slash this may not be a wise investment.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Hopefully this will help people decide whetherto get this DLC or not.

You're right. It hasn't that much replay value. I did it twice and I might do it again after finishing DA:O/AWK a few more times.

But I remember when I was young and I would spend 20 bucks for 15-30 minutes of a lot of fun with lots of replay value and then the replay would cost me another 20 bucks! heh... good ol' days!

Interesting concept, but the part of no replay value and pure hack and slash makes me uninterested.

Batman: Arkham Asylum has an interesting concept with "hack 'n slash" DLC. They allow players to compete by way of an online scoreboard.

Did you hear that Bioware? I just made you an extra $5! Clearly the next DLC should have a vendor junk item named in my honor: "Caedo's Ramblings" - "Somewhere in these hastly jotted notes is an ounce of convincing wisdom."

Clearly ;)

You do realize that I'd have some part in this right? But Bioware was nice enough to me already, making an NPC after my main char, created with the CC before the game release last november. :o
