People want value.. EA wants money. Guess who won? lol

Face it, the Dragon Age budget was cut.

Of course, if everyone did that then there wouldn't be any DLC at all.

Which, considering the quality of the DLC so far (and I mean that across the board, not just Bioware games), wouldn't be so terrible I suppose. Heh.

Quick play through which acceptable since it was only a five dollar DLC. The only part I like was how the Archdemon called out to the Darkspawn. This made a lot of sense. However, killing all the humans and party members made me sick. Even the dog layed there dead. I won't be playing through it again. I still feel sad.

How about if you want free, you download some of the legally free community made modules (some of which are reportedly better story wise anyway) instead of suggesting folks ruin the future for paid DLC that might actually be compelling?

When they started releasing star wars pc games, they made X-Wing and Tie Fighter. 2 seperate games, Tie fighter sat on the shelves and didn't even sell (in the store I worked at anyways, and it was a national chain store) when it hit the bargain bin for $5.00.

They needed rev's so the threw this together and made a few bucks, trouble is everytime they do this they lose the faith of the loyal players. But from what I have read EA does this alot, they buy a label and it's IP' s make what they can and move on.

Other companies are doing this also. I am pretty much done with bioware, I have no faith in them anymore. I'm not even looking forward to SWTOR anymore. Doesn't matter it's different people working on it, EA/BW is calling the shots, so...

The mods at DragonAgeNexus.com are pretty nice indeed. They have a dlc of their own, called return  to the Kocari wilds. Even a mod to make Lelianna look like a Mord Sith (legend of the seeker).

Return to the Korcari Wilds I wouldn't presently recommend because it has extremely amateurish voice overs (complete with microphone crackle). I applaud the attempt, but I still can't recommend it for players wanting something up to Bioware quality.

Emissary might be better, but I haven't played it yet.

There are, of course, tons of great non-story mods on Nexus. Turning Leliana into her Sacred Ashes version, letting Dog be a 5th party member all the time, expanding your combat tactics options, fixing some bugs, etc. etc. --- lots of neat stuff.

Just a general point here. I think you're confusing quality and production values. Now, of course, being a big company, Bioware could afford more polish and production values. But that doesn't necessarily have to mean better quality, or a more meaningul story.

Same could apply to music, movies etc. Your subway pianist could have an old, out of tune keyboard, but that doesn't necesarily mean he's a worse pianist than the high-brow playing on a perfect Concert Hall grand. Quite frankly, I've often enjoyed subway performances even more than the concert stuff.

Darkspawn Chronicles was a fun enough evening, and made me relearn party tactics after too long soloing (I still ended up mostly playing the shriek, who was awesome, and parking the others). Rather than complaining about it being too short for the money (which it probably was) I've decided to view my money as a down payment on DA2.

A subway performer can have a certain je ne sais quoi to them.

You can have a quality product without massive investment into production values, but you can't have a quality product if you attempt to mimic a high production value product without the ability to do so.

To use your metaphor, it's like someone trying to use that same out of tune keyboard in a concert hall. Doesn't work.

Again, like a subway performer, I applaud the efforts of the person who made "Return to the Kocari Wilds". There's a certain charm to the typos and microphone crackle... but it's far too distracting and obvious for anyone to take it seriously.

How many gamers want to play as the evil race? I don't know, less that want to play the good guys in games like this. I had no desire at all to play this DLC and I normally buy every single DLC for games I like. Sounds like I didn't miss much. I haven't touched Dragon Age since the 1.03 patch, so hopefully the issues introduced there are resolved in a new patch.

Hm. Why did you buy this DLC then, it has pretty straightforward description. I actually enjoyed it - for about an hour I've been murdering everything in Denerim and actually enjoyed that you get to kill all main characters.

There is something fun about Shriek eating Leliana.

I bought this based on my Faith in Bioware and the Dragon Age series/world.

I'm sad to say this DLC was a blow to my faith.

My problem with this is that it's absolutely nothing new, no new character models, no new scenery, no voice acting. Playing as the Darkspawn should be an epic novelty, but for me it wore off in about ten minutes.

There's no insight into the Massive Bloodthirsty Horde of Darkspawn, and to put the cherry on the top of this sundae we're given probably one of the most disapointing endings i've seen in a long time, in my opinion an ending not worth the time i invested in playing to get it.

Now i'm not spitting venom here, i've really got nothing but respect for EVERYONE involved in the Dragon Age World, From Writers, to Programers, to artists, everyone who makes Dragon Age the wonderful world it is, i want to give you all a heartfelt "THANK YOU" because you guys are devoted to bringing us a new gaming experience, keeping the DA world fresh, and delivering us new DLC's very quickly.

I Feel though that this DLC cheapens the over all shine of the wonderful world you've created, this feels like something pieced together with already existing material and as a result it's only barely entertaining.

I paid five dollars for this...I sincerely regret purchasing it, had a little more effort been put into this to make it new, fresh and entertaining than i happily would have paid more than five dollars for it.

Please be aware guys and girls at Bioware that putting out DLC often can either keep the world you created alive...or slowly kill it, i feel there's been a steady decline in your DLC's as of late and i really hope you guys can rise to occassion and remind your fans just how awesome you can be,

And again Thank You for all your hard work

let's just hope that the next DLC would be something to look forward too ... as for DC well for 5$ i guess it's all right hmm . it would be better if bioware would release a patch that fixes all the bugs in a single update especially in the expension instead of going to nexus and rely on the game fixes that the players made . i mean isn't this bios job?

This could have been soooo much better if BioWare had actually taken the time to put something together which is up to their high standards. No choices, a severe lack of any worthwhile dialogue and no emotionally engaging moments – shame on you...

Agreed.

Additional comments:
The items were overpowered.
The abudence of new tomes could also unbalance your PC.
The personal quest? "Let's go hunt a dragon" .... bleh....

Not up to par.

Though, it's good to see people working.

One I would definately recommend is 'Alley of Murders'. :)

It's a short (30 minute?) quest based off the Denerim City Market.

Voice acting is pretty good (all done by Germans by the sound of it), visually, it's spot on. Items aren't overpowered and there's a good, sensible, fitting storyline.

I was suprised by the quality (given it came out pretty quickly), but the creator is an accomplished NWN modder.

Give it a try.

Emissary was alright. Combat's pretty challenging at first. No real plot, lots of killing. Think of it as a home-made DSC.

-I thought it was a rather interesting idea and it did have its moments, just not enough of them.

However it wasn’t even close to what I would have liked to have seen and it had a feel to it that it wasn’t even play tested fully (like everything BioWare does now it seems) or polished. I played it twice and I’ll do it one more time just to get the last achievement but other than that it left a rather stale taste in my mouth on the over all low quality diversion this thing is. It had so much potential.

Bad:
-Archdemon’s dialog on screen that goes under the 4th thrall so you cant even read it fully.
-The first ogre you get suddenly disappears on you when you get to a certain point.
-Very questionable logic on missions. Like breaking out 2 ogres who cant beak down a door but you use ogres to do just that, break down doors.
-Not having access to all the classes right from the start. Some of them show up way to late to really get the chance to play.
-The sudden end of it where you cant even look around at your handy work so to speak or get a chance to read the codex entries of all the good guys final group. -Not giving away the spoilers on who. Give me a few moments to savor my victory at least. Or even get a real glimpse at what would happen next with the Blight. Its just right into the credits.
-Mission was way to short. I had hoped it would go from Ostagar to Lothering ( why not here at least?) to Redcliffe and then to Denerim. Lets see as much as possible of the Darkspwan not just a little encounter.
-Where are the armies? Either the darkspawn’s or the Warden’s. I felt I was in a small battle not a epic winner take all siege.

Good:
-You do get to unlock a new item for use in the main game. I have to admit that it was pretty cool. Unfortunately it is just one item.
-Reading about everyone you met in Denerim and your companions was actually interesting and puts a perspective on how important your Warden actually was.
-In a way it is like the Marvel Comics monthly series “What If…?” where they would do a single issue about one of their heroes. Like What if Spiderman never became a crime fighter?
-Shriekers! Loved playing these things. Wish I could have had a whole group of 4 to use.
