I have read in a German PC Gaming magazine that after installing any DLC for Mass Effect 2, the game requires an acive internet connection every time it is launched.

Can anyone confirm or (hopefully) deny this?

Thanks in advance!

Under normal circumstances, you need an active internet connection to connect to the Cerberus Network. No matter if the DLC is free or paid, the Cerberus Network verifies your DLC to see if it's legit.

I've noticed this too... I'm tempted to point out that you need an active internet connection to download the DLC too, but I know from experience that some people keep a computer offline for various reasons so... ergh.

So, yeah, *confirmed*

Hey,

The intended behaviour is that the first time you try to use any DLC after it has been downloaded, it needs to be authenticated against EA servers and for any subsequent use the game can be played offline.

However, there is a known issue where some people are experiencing a problem that requires them to be online even after they have been authenticated.

thanks for the replies!

@don: the intended behaviour sound reasonable. having to activate the DLC once is not a problem. I just don't want to be forced to connect to the internet everytime I want to play the game (yet alone be online during playing the game, like with the new copy protection methods other companies are using whose games I will not buy as long as they use these kinds of methods). for performance and security reasons, I normally disconnect my computer form the internet when playing games, so that I can safely disable firewall and antivirus software.

so can we assume that the issue will be addressed in a future patch?

BTW, some users have found that they run into the bug only when auto-login is turned on (having the game automatically connect to Cerberus). If you run into the problem, turning off auto-login, and simply logging in manually when you need to validate DLC, may help. (Although I have seen a few posters report that their game still did not follow intended behavior and wanted to log in and re-validate every time even with auto-login off.)

I to run into this problem. I really hope its fixed soon, Id hate to be locked out of my own game because something knocked the servers out of commission on the other end...

@ Kloreep, that exactly what I run into. If I turn off auto log it wants me to log in manually every time I launch. having it on just requires me to be connected to the network here...
