Weird Dialogue Choice

I hadn't played mass effect 1 up until last week as I just bought a sweet new iMac. I beat it, loved it and now I'm playing through ME2 which is incredible.
I was building a relationship with Miranda and intended to take that to the end, however, after Jack's personal mission, (minor spoiler)  her and Miranda have a fight. Im sure most of you know this having passed the game already, but it seems I totally messed my chances up with Miranda by siding with Jack. The diologue options made it seem as if I was just resolving a fight and not resolving relationship issues. I also feel as if this fight was akwardly placed as the mission prior gets brings you closer to Jack and I wanted to defend her on that basis. I feel like this was a misleading dialogue choice and I'm definitelty going to do things different on my second playthrough but am I out of luck with Miranda now? I've since turned Jack down as well in hopes that would sway Miranda's decision but now they both hate me lol.

Haven't seen your repost yet, but I like the choice in Jack's mission even less: the Intimidation option makes Shepard look like some kind of Palpatine-esque evil, while the normal Renegade option seems kinda pushy.

Bitemarkz, the person you side against in that argument is blocked from being a romantic love interest. The only solution is to side with your intended love interest or have a high enough paragon or renegade score to calm them both down thereby leaving both girls open for romantic pursuit. Also the argument occurs after both girls loyalty missions have been completed...so it is possible for that fight to occur after Miranda's mission as well.

I'm having some registration issues with this particular account so I wasn'y actually able to repost this in the correct forum. I appreciate the responses.

I agree, Kaiser, but I'm playing Paragon so that wasn't much of an issue for me. I just wish they made it more clear that I was deciding on a love interest in that fight because I would have been more careful. I just thought I was resolving a fight because Jack and Miranda hated each other before they were even loyal to me. Jack is still loyal to me but her dialogue when I try and speak with her would make you think otherwise. I've since started pursuing Tali. I'm definitely going to be playing through this terrific game again though so I'll do things differently. I like having options as to what game save to import when ME3 comes around.

An easy way to pick the paragon/renegade option in that cutscene is to NOT start a romance with neither both of them before the fight. That is, do their loyalty missions as soon as possible if you want to romance one or another and don't lose your loyalty with the other.
