I just want to make sure I understand, is the reason that everybody's pissed off because this DLC is about killing beloved companions, or because it is likely not going to have a significant plot or contribution to the plot and just be a series of combat encounters, a combination of those, or a different reason all together?
Yay run-on sentence.

A combination for me, but the "not going to have a significant plot contribution" part is the much larger part.  I want DLC that expands the world, not makes an AU.  If I want that, I'll read fanfic kthx.

To be fair... nobody's gotten to play it yet. You don't know if it's going to be straight fluff. Just because it is alternate universe and doesn't affect your cannon playthrough, doesn't mean it can't reveal something about the story. I'm hoping there's plenty of cutscenes and dialogue with the characters bravely making their last stand.

I'm just going by what I see in the promotional material.  There's no mention of anything like that.  They're not even trying to market it as a "deeper understanding" kind of DLC, rather as a "visceral" (read: mindless) experience.

And do you really think there are going to be cutscenes and dialogue?  I mean, really?  Good dialogue, as opposed to the cheesy stuff we got in RtO?  Consider that that would require actual writing and voice acting.

I'd say my primary issue with this DLC is that *any* resources that BW has should be getting applied to fixing patch 1.03 and the significant bugs in both Origins and Awakening.  I'm sure that there are at least a few changes to game mechanics that were required to make this DLC possible, which means that some of the same folks who *could* have been making stealing and trap detection work properly were instead spending time letting me play with a party of unvoiced NPCs.

I did not buy the Feastday DLC, and will not buy Darkspawn Chronicles or any other DA DLC, until at least a significant fraction of the existing bugs are fixed.  (Seriously--QWinn's fixpack mod should be part of 1.04, as well as equivalent fixes for Awakening, and *that* should be what we're getting in mid-May).

This DLC is all about "re-use existing maps and models with minimal expenses, to cash in".  In the end, the biggest appeal to me is that I could finally kill some of my more annoying NPC companions--but that's worth zero dollars to me until the game is fully playable and stable.

Alistair? Leader of an army? "Laughs". Of course it fails. I find it interesting it mentions Wardens, not Warden. So we get to fight Riordan?

BTW Trailer:www.youtube.com/watch

Warden: "If you want to lead, all you have to do is
ask."

Alistair: "What? Lead? Me? No, no, no. No leading. Bad
things happen when I lead. We get lost, people die, and the next thing
you know I'm stranded somewhere without any pants."

'Tis most curios, as in the trailer we see werewolves.I would have imagined Alistair's morality would have stopped him from doing such a thing as slaughtering the Dalish.

I also saw Golems in a screenshot. So does that mean he actually listened to Morrigan and preserved the anvil. But if he acquired Shale, he would probably have to kill her. Also, with his Templar background would he kill the mages, Wynne included?

I don't understand this. They get praise for making an amazing immersive RPG, winning awards left and right. So they take that as a sign that they should change everything? I know it's DLC but this seems to be the direction they're taking. As long as you get our money, huh BioWare/EA?

As someone said on the FB page, we want to see more of the characters we love so you make us kill them? GJ.

Seconded.. thirded?

Quoting myself from other thread:

Well, I hate to admit it, but this is the first time I have seen a major DLC (as in, not just an item, but a quest or story) for ANY game I enjoy and said to myself, "Why should I ****ing care?"

I hope they don't make any money off of this, if only to convince them to stay the hell away from stupid ass **** like this in the future.

I guess this just confirms that he put Morrigan in charge in Lothering.

Monkeys will fly out of my arse before I buy this garbage. Its not even worth wasting 5 dollars on. Those who want to play this drek and if you can have fun, more power to you. Me, I'm waiting to spend my money on something better.

How's about they fix bugs in both games before they start adding craptastic stuff like this?

Took the words right out of my mouth. I don't expect anything much from the promised DLCs since the dev team size and budget is way too small to produce something even approaching decent. That said, its an improvement on the Feastday pranks and at least it is something different... although I suppose you could construe this as a different sort of prank.

So in essence he's not really leading anything. :huh:I dunno. I'm willing to try it out but not so much willing to pay for a "what if" just to get some epic weapon. And just how epic is this weapon? Is it really worth the $5 when the issues from the previous game and expansion barely been touched on.  Why can't they come to the point where it's like 'o.k enough with the BS lets fix what we have and then we can focus on other projects'?

.........But part of me is intrigued with how cool killing Morrigan would be.

Just saw the trailer...He killed Alistair! :crying:

I was actually thinking of downloading this for my husband.  He's always complaining about how ruthless I am for killing innocent  dark spawn  and dragons who are just doing their thing and minding their own buisness.  When I asked him about it he wanted to know if he could kill my character.  I was taken aback and asked him why he would want to kill my character.  His reply, "You get to keep what you kill."  I don't know whether to be flattered or horrified.

My husband and I are arguing about it, too.  He wants to buy it just because it's Dragon Age, and having played City of Heroes/City of Villains type games, he likes the concept.  I want to take a stand.  "It's for the children!"

I don't know why people keep saying it's innovative etc., when obviously the idea of playing the enemy is done all the time.

I might actually be interested in it if we got to see our own PCs defeated and killed.  That would at least have some novelty cache, and would remove the irritation I have with the idea that our punk Couslands and Broscas and whatnot are the only ones keeping the world from EPIC DOOOOOM.

Yes, hardly new - Dungeon Keeper did it years ago.

I must admit squishing Alistair would be fun. But no, I'm not spending my Bioware points on this, any more than I am spending it on new outfits for ME2.

I know you're not the only person who was essential in saving the world (just try to realistically cash in those treaties without anyone else in your party) but if the world would have been just find if it was only Alistair that would make the Warden highly unnecessary so why should they sacrifice anything if they are essentially superfluous? I would rather see it as 'without the Warden and Alistair together (since he's the only one you're stuck with until the Landsmeet) the darkspawn win'. Otherwise it makes Alistair sound like the Mary Sue you don't want to see th Warden as.

Well that's kind of what I'm saying.  The whole premise of "what if you died in the Joining" makes that the foundation of a darkspawn victory.  Much more interesting- though obviously more technically difficult/ expensive and hence we're not seeing it- to play a "what if we lost?" scenario.  Emphasis on "we."

From wikipedia...

A Mary Sue (sometimes just Sue), in literary criticism and particularly in fanfiction, is a fictional character with overly idealized and hackneyed mannerisms, lacking noteworthy flaws, and primarily functioning as a wish-fulfillment fantasy for the author or reader. Perhaps the single underlying feature of all characters described as "Mary Sues" is that they are too ostentatious for the audience's taste, or that the author seems to favor the character too highly. The author may seem to push how exceptional and wonderful the "Mary Sue" character is on his or her audience, sometimes leading the audience to dislike or even resent the character fairly quickly; such a character could be described as an "author's pet".

You all really shouldn't search for a reason why the golems and werewolves are there....at least not in a sensible plot way sort. AT ALL. The only reason the golems and wervolves are there is because they are frikkin cool and RAAAAWR and much bettaaaa for the image of a badas$ army to please the GTA player --- because werewolves and golems are much more aaaaawesoooome than just having elves and dwarves.

Dev 1: We need moooar power. A cooler army. You know LotR-style. So reaaaally BAMF!
Dev 2: But we have the elves and Dwarfes already.
Dev 1: Elves, Dwarves, pfff. How boooooring. Let's get the golems in.
Dev 3: ...And the Werewolves....cuz they are cool. :o
Dev 2: But wouldn't that be OOC for the characters? I can't see Alistai--
Dev 1: WHO CARES! It's AU!
Dev 3: They will love it! Mooooar fiiiiirrreeeee!!!!

This DLC is like a bad fanfiction (to me)
