Having played KOTOR and Jade Empire and all I was so looking forward for the new companions. I have played 3 days now, and did the Red Cliff and Mage Tower stories through.

I have Alistair, Morrigan, Leliana, Zevran, Wynne and the Dog. (Named him Bruce after Batman, lol)

Either way, so far, I am having LOTS of trouble. I play my char as I would act, so basically good, but always having in mind, as Duncan told us, fighting the Blight has the top priority. Somehow, no matter what I do, I always end up offending SOMEONE. I get a few points for nice words and lose them all, because at last one half of the party disagrees. And I dislike them all in various degrees.

Alistair... I don't even know where to begin. He is such a whiney, prejudiced guy. I mean, he sure means well, and first I liked him, but the longer I play with him in my group, the less I like him. He seems to shrink every responsibility. Ya know, when solving the issue with red Cliff, I decided to make use of Blood Magic, since there seemed little option. All the time Alistair says, I should decide, he doesn't want to lead, you may know about his "heritage", all the time he does not want to decide and then he YELLS at me and drops 12 points or 15. I thought WTF? It was my decision, he NEVER wants to make his hands dirty with deciding but blames me for every step nontheless. When I am lenient against mages, he is so full of Church indoctrination against magic, it really starts to annoy me.

Then Morrigan. I mean, I can respect her, but her mericless Darwinism is just 180 degree against my view. So with plus and minus I stayed with zero, and her heartless comments often in the most inapproprtiate times angered me. I am glad to finally have Wynne, tho I barely know her yet, so I can kick Morrigan. I am sure she is interesting, but I was just sick and tired of all the "oh we cant save your husband/wife/daughter, she is dead, face reality" blah blah.

Leliana. Play City Elf and you see she feels about us like pet dogs! I mean, she means well, but all her delusional religious mumbo. I think she is a kind person, but kinda hollow and sees things through pink glasses.

And then Zevran. Shoosh... A hired murderer who enjoys killing, where I try to play "Jedi" and value and protect life as good as I can. I withheld what I really felt and tried to be kind to follow the gay romance arc, but it still bit of creeps me.

With all those people I kinda have the feeling like needing to tiptoe through the story not to offend anyone, to travel with a bunch of easy to offend divas! They really start to annoy me, and right now I don't feel really connected to anyone, ever Alistair, whom I liked at the beginning a lot. But god, he is SO whiney and holier-than-thou with EEEBIL magic and whatnot and then shriks any responsibility to decide. This moment when he yelled at me, I answered nice to him to keep the group together, kinda thinking the greater good, fighting the Blight was more important than my morality. But I really hated him for that.

There was this caged barbarian, dunno if you could recruit him, but he was a murderer, and I dunno... I didnt really feel like taking him along, just to give him a choice for atonement.

At least Wynne seems to be on my wavelength. I wonder who else is supposed to come. Oh well.

So, what are your experiences with the companions??

Sten. It doesn't matter if you hate everyone else, Sten is absolutely lovable. Plus he does a Portal reference.

First off..yes you could take the qunari guy Sten with you...And personally..I don't tiptoe, but yea..your choices matter..and affect both your companions..and the story itself...for instance..the armies you recieve throughout the game...can be FAR different if you play differently.

That the companion i like the most after morrigan is Dog... says enough for me. All the companions are boring and lack originality. Morrigan is ok though imo.

Love the game but the people that designed your companions shouldnt be allowed to touch that aspect of the game in a sequel.

I actually thought the companions were really well done and realistic in their differances and depth of character, that being said the only character i didn't like was Morrigan so it could just be a matter of opinion.

I didn't have Sten in my party...so I didn't enjoy him much.

I gotta agree with the OP. I liked Alistair at first, but he went from a sarcastic jerk (which I like) to a whiny little kid. Morrigan always bugged me, complaining every time I do ANY quest. Leliana wasn't too bad...once you got past her original story about seeing you in a dream, it was all good. Wynn wasn't too bad either...she was just kinda...there. The only character I actually enjoyed was, oddly enough, Shale, from the Stone Guardian DLC...but I didn't get him until close to the end and didn't keep him in my party.

I guess they're well written. I don't like the characters...rather than just thinking they aren't fully realized.

I believe if you really delve into each character...you find things..I was a bit..skeptical at first as well. But Shale, aside from being an awesome tank has an awesome backstory, as does Leliana, And Alistair and Morrigan...It really makes you feel that these characters are fleshed out if you get to know them.

Hmm... I don't know, but I really like all of them.

If you don't like those certain companions, then pick others. It's as simple as that.

I loved almost all the companions. They all had different views on the situations, which is realistic. They aren't mindless and agree with everything you do and depending on how you play some will like you and some won't. I liked that.

That said, while I liked Morrigan throughout the game, I developed an extreme dislike during the final hours of the game.

So far (I'm only half-way through, and over 50 hours in), I think that all of the characters are really well done. Wynne's a little annoying (she was taking too long to teach me how to be a Spirit Healer, so I just bought the book), but that and Alistair's sudden "Oh yeah, by the way" revelation being out-of-the-blue (having read the books, I totally saw that coming, but in-game it felt like being slapped with it) are my only complaints. They all have their nuances, singing voices, gender confusion issues, etc...

I have absolutely no complaints so far (apart from minor technical issues). That may be, however, influenced by the fact that everybody except for Oghren (the newest addition) likes me over 70. Even when I'm a "Jedi", or a complete jerkface (Morrigan's definitely a bad influence on Aileth, but ever since he sold that little boy for Blood Magic, he's had a rough time with his conscience, so he ended up destroying the Anvil... but I digress).

I think they're all well done. I do wish there was more to Dog. I may not like them personally, but they're all interesting characters, and I like them better than any of the KOTOR companions.

I think they're interesting just because they *are* hard to please. If you took such a diverse group of real people, you would definitely be stepping on toes constantly. I'm just going with Morrigan, Alistair, and Dog all the way through this time. I think.

I actually thought it was really cool the way Alistair blows up at you after the blood magic thing. I only lost 7 points for it, though, so you must have said something to make it worse (or I said something to make it better).

So far I like them all. It's fun to listen to the banter between Alistair and Morrigan. While I may dislike them personally at times--especially Zevran (how can he seriously claim to LIKE killing people? And then he immediately starts hitting on my elven mage after trying to kill her. Dude, you got problems!), I'm managing okay at having them all like me as their leader.

One of my favorites is Alistair. Yeah, he can be whiny at times, absurdly goofy at others, but I don't think he's as hard-nosed about mages as you'd think. He actually rather likes magic (hence one of his best gifts being magical runes), with one exception. He hates blood mages/malificar, but holds no grudge against others. Well, except Morrigan, and I'd say that's more of a personality issue than anything else. Question him much and you will find out that Alistair never hunted mages and didn't want to--which is why he's so glad to be a Warden instead. Despite his goofiness and whinyness, he's pretty adorable to romance--it's one of the few times you'll see him serious. Hint: Let him romance your character, rather than the other way around. He's more amusingly awkward that way.

I also really like Wynne and the dog. I thought I would like Sten. I want to like Sten. Alas, I don't. Sten looks down his nose at women, among other things. He flipped out over his sword. Seriously... I'm thinking he's quite well-written, but I can't like him.

I'm wondering if character personalities don't change based on your choices as the player. Alistair does start out pretty hard-nosed on magic, but as I've played my elven mage, he does seem to have softened toward it.

My favorites are Oghren, Shale, and the "conversations" the various party members have with the dog. I actually rather like another party member you can get later in the game, but it might be a major spoiler. It should be pretty easy to figure out who if you've beaten the game once.

I really liked all of the characters! Especially Zevran. Since I always play an evil character my first runthrough, his talk about randomly killing people was refreshing and adorable...

...

I guess that was just me. ^__^

I also loved Morrigan to pieces. I liked that she had an actual friendhship path.

I like the characters and I absolutely love the party banter. It's realistic and I like the challenge of trying to get everyone's approval rating high. As for Redcliff and Alistair, if you do the Circle of the Magi quest first you get the option to go them to ask for help. It circumvents the whole blood magic stuff, loosing you no Alistair points I would imagine (I forgot that was something he was involved with and didn't have him in my party at the time. He showed up in the cut scenes that mattered though).

Sten's my best friend in the world and I wouldn't have it any other way. Sure, we sometimes disagree and feelings get hurt, but there's nothing like making up over a plate of cookies.

So far My favorite little banter session was between Leliana..and Morrigan, I had them both in my party..and Leliana starts going on about how Morrigan should be wearing a dress and how they could go buy shoes together and go shopping...and really getting excited by it....I just about busted a lung laughing so hard at that.

Alistair and Morrigan says some funny things to each other, and Oghren is simply hilarious, he's a player, Shale is actually quite cool too..

Problem is, Morrigan likes it when you do alittle worse deeds, where as Alistair and Leiliana likes the more goody two shoes stuff, oh and Wynne aswell.

I agree that there is a bit of a trouble with the fact that whatever you do you end up offending someone and loosing points. At least in the beginning before you have all the characters. When I did I (who wanted to play a good-knight-kind-of-guy for my first playthrough) simply picked characters to go along with me who would have the least trouble with that playstyle (these charcters being Alistair, Leliana and Wynne which is also a very good combo I might add) and so far (60% in) it is going well.

As far as likeability goes I like most of the characters fine. Don't really understand all the buzz about Morrigan though. I thought I would but so far I haven't warmed very much to her unsympathetic-ness. Someone who has warmed to me though is Alistair. Alot. Behind the whinyness he is really sweet. Which I was a little surprised for. Can't help but have a feeling something bad is about to happen to him though before the end. Oh, well, hope I am wrong...

For the record: Dog loves you no matter what sort of horrible things you do, so maybe bring him along instead of some picky sapient.

morrigan is adorable such a good soul crippled by her mother. and the fact you can't get her back to the light side makes story touching
