So far I really like none of the companions :/

Alistair is on my hate list top priority (at least with my dwarfen noble, who is rather merciless.. not bad, but he does what has to be done).
Sten is kinda boring imo, but a useful fighter. Funnily my dwarf and he work very well together (+60 or so), alas i don´t like him ^^
Leilana and Morrigan are both good in their ways, alas i am a bit dissapointed with Morrigan. But since my dwarf doesn´t want anything from her, it´s ok.
The dog was killed, my dwarf thought it to be better "put out of it´s misery" ^^. But i will take him in the human noble origin.

Not me, my dwarf. It was mercy in his eyes
I also have to say Morrigan has the best (and in my experience most) banters until now.. if with Alistair or Leliana, they´re just fun.
Also is it possible to bring Alistair to hate you so much, he leaves?? I´m working hard on it *g*

They all have an equal number of banters; you may just be bringing him along when you cross the invisible banter tripwires in any given area.
Alistair is a Grey Warden; you'd have to do (well, specifically, not do) something very specific to ****** him off enough to rage quit the group.

Shale's wit is a lot of fun and I enjoy conversations with him. He has some great buffs too so I'm happy to have him along.
I enjoy Sten's observations and input. I find him refreshing and like the challenge that his literal point of view and logic presents.
Wynne is charming and certainly doesn't look like the frail and elderly lady she purports to be. Wynne has some funny dialogue with Zevran and Alistair.
Zevran.. hmmm if I close my eyes, I picture Antonio Banderas and that's no bad thing, however, there's something about his appearance that I find blatant and thus I find myself speeding through my conversations with him so I don't have to endure him making those lecherous looks at my mage.
Dog is adorable: there should be more made of him.
Leilana: has a marvellous voice and accent that lends itself very well to the tales she tells but her character has a mile-wide snobbish streak that I find off-putting. Great storyteller, yucky personality with some funny quirks.

And acording to the Church blood magic sort of caused all the bad things in the world. You could have gone with the other 2 choices that were....IN door number one we have....pause to cause excitment KILL THE KID weird as it is the party prefers this alot to doing blood magic and killing the wife. In door number two... we go to the tower and get the circle to help us instead which does the same as the blood magic but with out the evil magic and human sacrifice
I sort of hate the church group at some times they were the group i mostly used through my first playthrough a bunch of winers if you ask me. Dont kill the kid, dont destroy the ashes, please show mercy, dont do that bla bla bla.
By the way since im such a people pleaser i had 90-100 with every companion
Also my number one guy is Shale i love his quote "I hate darkspawns their like pigeons and i hate those flying demons" or something like that

Either his dialect should have been changed to suit his American accent or the actor should have chosen one of the many accents available to pick from the British Isles.
Listening to Oghren speak is as jarring as it would be if Margaret Thatcher (former Prime Minister of the UK) had been hired to play Marlon Brando's role of Don Corleone in The Godfather

I regularly have both Oghren and Wynne in my party and the banter between the 2 of them is easily the funniest I've heard so far. Between the "Pike twirling" conversation and him constantly hitting on her, I've almost fallen out of my chair a couple of times.

The companions are remarkably consistant in personality. They also have far more depth than the majority of characters in games.
My light sider has had Morrigan since the beginning of the game, and is at an 82 approval rating. Either take companions that agree with your choosen moral path, shower them with gifts and attention, or ignore their feelings altogether.

As a woman, though, I wish there was a romanceable character that I didnt have to coddle along. I prefer an actual MAN...not a whiney boy. No matter how likeable he seems, that weakness is off-putting.

The Character that I find myself liking the most is Wynne. My PC has sort of changed he behavior because I enjoy listening to Wynne and heading her advice.

These are the most important things to keep in mind when deciding who's leaving the camp with you. These aren't NPCs whose opinions bend with a breeze. They have defined personalities. They like things and they don't like things. I've gone through my playthrough so far with Morrigan, Shale and Dog/Zevran and have only managed to upset Morrigan and Shale all of once. My character's personality is like theirs. Is killing someone the easiest way to get this done? Then he's dead, doesn't matter if he's a kid. The priest won't give us a key to unlock the cage holding Sten? Threaten her old ass 'til she coughs it up (when Morrigan cheered at this I instantly fell in love).Maria Caliban wrote...

I LOVE the interaction btwn Dog and Sten in camp... Delving a bit into each character really does show the depth Bioware put into each character. Like in Redcliffe, Sten and Morrigan bantered back and forth about how she should be working in a shop (or something like that, reminiscent of being in 'the kitchen')... She didn't like that too much... lol
I learned an important fact about Sten from his banter with Zevran, who loves to embarass the other companions to no end.

Either way, so far, I am having LOTS of trouble. I play my char as I would act, so basically good, but always having in mind, as Duncan told us, fighting the Blight has the top priority. Somehow, no matter what I do, I always end up offending SOMEONE. I get a few points for nice words and lose them all, because at last one half of the party disagrees. And I dislike them all in various degrees.
This, I think, is the main problem with the whole approval/influence system. You end up playing bottom-kissing/guess-what-the-developer-had-in-mind game to get more story and mechanical bonuses out of the game.
I would much prefer if influence worked in a branching manner. Whatever make your companions feel towards you (love, disgust, fear, respect), you should get equal amount of story and benefits (though not neccessarily similar).
Just my famous 2 cents.
