For bonus powers I'm not sure if I prefer Warp Ammo or Reave. I guess it depends on the mission.

If you aren't using Cryo Blast or a similar power on your Engineer, you're doing something wrong. Sentinels have an excuse, since they can use Throw for mostly the same effect.
I dont think there is a wrong way to play...

Well that's kind of a douchey thing to say. Wouldn't trying every available option, not just the obvious ones, be considered playing the game "right." Also, Flashbangs have about the same crowd control effect as Cryo minus the range and accuracy but with a much larger AoE. Plus they work on defended enemies.

May I ask why Cryo Blast is a must have??? What skills & point layouts do you recommend??
IIRC Overload, Incinerate, Passive, Team Bonus, Drone are all great. I usually don't find a need / use for Cryo Blast. If you give examples I'm willing to listen

Generally cryo is either an all or nothing talent. Level 1 is as good as 3, and the only point of 4 is to get the AoE version. I wouldn't say it's a must have, but it has 2 roles versus flashbang's 1. It CC's, but it also is a damage booster. Frozen enemies take double damage.
As an engineer you have ways of absolutely destroying enemy defenses. Once they're down to health it takes longer to finish them off(the complete opposite of an adept). Unloading your smg into a cryo'd enemy will kill him extremely fast. It's best used on charging krogan. 1 point is enough for those uses.

Unless your bonus power is also a hard CC (flashbang, Slam, Neural Shock etc), 1pt in Cryo will do more than anything else you could do with that point. Cryo is your best option against Krogan, Klixen and Varren at health, and is a pretty good option on anything at health since it CCs them, makes them die very quickly and has a shorter cooldown than Overload and Incinerate.
As for sample builds...
10 Area Overload
10 Heavy Incinerate
10 Attack Drone
3 Cryo
1 AI Hacking
10 Mechanic
6 Dominate
10 Heavy Overload
10 Heavy Incinerate

1 Cryo
0 AI Hacking
10 Demolisher
10 Tungsten/Heavy Warp Ammo
10 Area Overload
10 Area Incinerate
10 Attack Drone
10 Full Cryo (area)
1 AI Hacking
10 Demolisher
0 Bonus
3 Overload
10 Heavy Incinerate
10 Attack Drone
3 Cryo
3 AI Hacking
10 Demolisher
10 Area Energy Drain
