ME series is an sc-fi action based shooter with RPG elements.
DAO is pure high fantasy RPG with action based elements(or not, depending on how often you pause).
All you need to do is take a look on youtube or something and see the difference in gameplay. The gameplay is completely different and setting is completely different(high fanatsy versus sci-fi).

Fallout 3 is more like ME than DAO. So is Borderlands and whole host of other games.

It's got big choices like Mass Effect, and LI's, an epic story, and the spell system works the same way as ME's Tech/Biotics system. (Hold down R2, wheel comes up, select your move, release, move happens)
I got Dragon Age: Origins recently, and I'm enjoying it very much.
So if that's any indication of whether or not ME fans can enjoy DA, there ya go.

And just IMO laser/plasma guns/rifles > swords
Nothing like a good ol'-fashioned slo-mo disintegration in FO3.

But, aside from that, I still think FO3 is a fantasic game. But I played it to death before and probably don't have much more I can do with it (of course, I'm doing the same thing now with ME2). Still, I'm definitely looking forward to FO:New Vegas this fall which is basically the FO3 engine and mechanics with a whole new story (maybe I'll play that one forever until ME3 comes out).
And, for what it's worth, I also played through DA:O twice. A very well done game, but I've personally never been a fan of party-based, pause-a-lot fantasy RPGs (which is odd because I like the squad-based, pause-somewhat implementation in ME/ME2). But, generally, as far as fantasy is concerned, I prefer Oblivion over DA:O (at least gameplay wise).

lol it was all about Oblivion there for awhile but after playing ME2 I want to shoot more, sword fight less. How is the story line in FO3 over all?
The storyline is typical for Bethesda games. There to give those who WANT a story something to do, but the game, overall, is more about free-roaming. You can probably finish the MQ (without expansions) in an afternoon. I've heard that some of the DLCs are actually better than the MQ, story-wise.

Pretty poor storyline(improves a lot with the DLC). But good enrionment, and very open-ended sandbox style, like oblivion.
I was never so diappointed with game ending than FO3, because while playing it you thought it had some much potential. And then suddenly it's over as soon as it seems it just began.

I spent the whole summer/fall JUST playing Fallout 3. It is one of my favorites (besides ME2). I also love Dragonage, you really get into the story. But I would say to play Fallout 3 first then Dragonage. You'll spend hundreds of hours on it. Also get the game of the year edition, comes with ALL the DLC. And Bethesda really knows how to make their DLC.
Bethesda DLC is generally better, yes.
That being said, I wouldn't get Mothership Zeta, waste of money. Operation: Anchorage has some nifty gear, but the content itself kinda sucks. The only DLC I really liked were The Pitt and Broken Steel, but a lot of folks also seemed to like Point Lookout.
