I noticed that that interview dodged the information about the length and pricing

It's unique, sure, but...... I don't want it.

I don't like RTS, for one. I like story-driven games. I like dialog. I like roleplaying.

And I just don't like playing evil, when given an option. I'm fine with stuff like Overlord, but... Put me in a game like this and I want to be the hero.

I won't **** endlessly about it. I'm just kinda disappointed that the big DLC announcement is nothing I'd be interested in whatsoever. I guess it's different and a bit innovative, but... Do not want and such.

This is a really good idea. However, I am fairly sure it will end in disappointment. Simply because we can estimate it being only one hour long and having limited dialog. If that was actually a larger DLC maybe in the 5-10 hour range and costing 15-20 dollars it would be fun because they could really flesh out darkspawn lore. With that length they could show the birth of your darkspawn, training, the battles in DA:O, and the ending (maybe even have your darkspawn die so the good guys still win). These short DLCs are really starting to bother me because they strip to the bare bones the best part of DA:O: the story.

I would pay more. If they wanted to make each DLC focus on a different companion, I'd support that, too. I'd buy each and every one of the, even for companions that I'm less fond of, just to support the making of that kind of DLC, and to gain more understanding of the characters.

The problem is that some of the major companions are voiced by celebrities, who might now be unavailable for voice acting, not to mention come with a huge bill. A solution would be new voice actors for these companions, but that wouldn't exactly fall in good earth either, would it?

IIRC in one of Bethesda's Fallout 3 DLCs a NPC from the original game didn't feature because of this.

With all due respect for the voice actors, none of them are "celebrities".  They're all jobbers, who will be more than happy to work for a paycheck.  I don't imagine it is that hard or expensive to get them in for scale for a day of recording.  We're not talking Martin Sheen or Liam Neeson here.

Also from what I have heard of the voice acting industry...it pays pretty low.  Either way it shouldn't be an excuse because choosing a new voice actor is better than rarely ever seeing the character again.

Kind of reminds me of "It's a wonderful life", but with Darkspawn and Warriors and close companions being murdered, as opposed to christmas and stuff.

That being said, how will it be activated in game? Will it be a dream that you have at the party camp, or maybe you pass out during your joining at Ostagar and imagine it?

I'll be in the minority, but not really looking forward to slaughtering the civilized peoples of Fereldon while playing as some taint-twisted monster. "I think we will spare that group because they aren't resisting.... Hey, I said SPARE them! Not "spare RIBS"!" We need a strategic alliance with- wait a second- all the other darkspawn! I know- let's serve the Archdemon!

Bah. Don't see the appeal of killing heroes, whether reluctant or not, while being part of a flesh-eating horde...

Check out the new trailer for Darkspawn Chronicles now on GameSpot!

You'll also find a Q&A with Lead Designer Rob Bartel, where he discusses the new role you'll play as part of the Darkspawn onslaught!

What a complete joke! Yet another Q&A and still no question for the dev about BW getting off their lazy ****ing greedy money grubbing asses and fixing the game.

Question 1: When are you going to fix the game?

Question 2: Considering how buggy DA:O, the expansion and all of your DLC is, why should anyone one buy this DLC?

Question 3: Is having zero support for your games standard policy now?

Question 4: How does it feel to treat your fans like **** and do you think that this is good customer relations?

Question 5: Do you think that people who buy your games are human beings or just bank accounts waiting to be ripped off?

+1 What this guy said.

I do not want to reward bad behavior, so i'm not getting this DLC.
I will do what i can to avoid Bioware games until their attitute shifts with respect to support.

Your like a misbehaving child Bioware.  In need of a bit of tough love.  This is gonna hurt me more than it hurts you, but its for your own good - you know it, i know it, so shape up.

Start by firing the greedy executive at the top whose destroying your potential franchise in hopes of a quick promotion.  Or by replacing those D-rate patch programmers with people that don't take six months to figure out how to solve some simple bugs.

Foolish. The guys who make DLC aren't the same guys who make patch. Posts like this are sophomoric and intellectually sterile. We ALL want a patch. But whining about DLC changes nothing.

Meh, I'll pass on this DLC. That's really saying something, since I pretty much get anything they release for this game. I don't enjoy the idea of playing a darkspawn and slaughtering the characters I've grown fond of. I'd really rather see some fixes for already present issues with the game, or more adventures for my warden.

im looking foward to the dlc. i enjoyed LOTR rpg back on ps2 but was dissapointed with the evil side-play options lets hope DA does a better job.

I do wish the connectivity errors would be sorted though, as my game continually fails to connect to the DA servers to upload my data.

I agree with not seeing the appeal of it, but I do think it would add some dramatic weight to an otherwise short DLC. Rather than look at it from the point of view of "oh goody, I get to finally murder Alistair and Morrigan" I prefer to think of it as "good thing I didn't actually die in the joining... because the mega-sad ending would suck."

As a PoV thing, I think it might be a fairly compelling piece of DLC, which is actually pretty hard to do in an hour. That said, anyone who is looking forward to killing NPC's, well they are the target demographic as well, so who knows.

Yeah, come on Bioware, stop releasing DLC until the bugs are fixed. Why don't you put all of your artists, designers, writers... on bug-fixing duty. Surely they are totally qualified for the job, amirite ?

As they say "you can't please all of the people all of the time" to me it sounds like BW have got it right apart from fixing bugs. I must be REALLY lucky because after installing the dreaded patch I had one crash each evening for the first 3 days after that no problems at all, very strange.

I've been seriously considering if I will buy this for a couple of days and decided I will probably buy it based purely on the price. I do get emotionally involved with my games and party members and if what I imagine this little add on to be like from what I've read, I can't see that I will kill the GWs on the roof of the fort at the end, especially Alistair. I will play as far as that and then call it a day and I'm absolutely positive I will not play it more than once. I've only played Awakening twice and now I'm bored with it and want more DAO.

For future reference I hope that BW are not seriously considering turning out more darkspawn playing add ons or even full games, because I won't be buying them if they do, in fact I wouldn't even download if they were free.

Hmm...the appearence of Morrigan means that Alistair would have take up the offer even without PC's influence...

Well his codex entry does say he's interested in magic.  Besides, underneath all that bickering there was sexual tension so thick you could cut it with a knife!

This is regarded as a fun DLC...well to hell with it. I am not going to get this just to kill off my DAO companions for fun. If we ever see them again in DA2, how will we feel knowing we massacred them for fun in a previous story. Story?
There is no story. No dialogue. just killing. Lasting about an hour at the most. The taking of Deneirm. As seen through the slits of  darkspawn eyeballs.
We saw what Denerim looked like through our own eyes. We don't need to be reminded through the very creatures we defeated.
For god's sake, give us what we wanted...a DLC of our companions, not some sick thing about playing as darkspawn.
We don't need this. i certainly don't need it. I will wait for a decent DLC to be released.
I love DAO and to some extent Awakenings. But not cheap garbage like this offering.
:(

ITA - and while they SAY they will give us want we want based on our ocmments and responses to other DLC, instead we get THIS...thankfully Alpha Protocol comes out June1...

slash and bash, no thanks :(

Did Bioware fire everyone and outsource everything obsidian (KOTOR2 as a good exmple of how to ruin a game)?

Seriously, if you're a female do you become a broodmother in this? No thanks - I already feel screwed on awakenings (that was a kotor2 ending- haha no ending just nothing)

Bioware seriously, people buy your games for the storylines - not some stupid I R A DRAGON/OGRE whatever - theres penty of other mindless killing games - or if I wanted to do that - I'd play some mmorpg where at least you get phat l00t.

Haha, the power to kill Alistair.. my my, an alternate ending is oh so sweet. :)

Also i know everyone has grown to love their companions and their PC but c'mon, do you really need to be obsessed, as a Bioware fan i love the whole story telling they put in their games, however Darkspawn chronicles in an ALTERNATE ending, so to all the people that are saying "I wanted a companion DLC blah blah blah.." Havent you guys ever thought you might see them again in DA:2.? we dont't know what bioware has in store for us, just calm down, i think its time to put our mature behaviour hat on.

This is a DLC not an expansion, i think Darkspawn chronicles is going to be a laugh, i mean running around as a hurlock just seems like too much fun.

It's an interesting concept, but it's likely just going to be a linear dungeon crawl with a few lines of dialogue. Probably going to be pretty forgettable.

And, it's not a particulalry big deal anyways that you get to kill Alistair. You'll probably just stick your sword in him in some underwhelming boss fight since you're clearly not going to be talking to him - hardly interesting. The original game allowed for a much more satisfying betrayal of companions, particularly once that you've romanced.

This is largely how I feel about it. As much as I would love new companion related DLC, I'm also very game for new DLC that features alternate universes and totally different characters. I'm just not interested in playing a character who is basically a mindless killer. I'm not particularly interested in killing my former companions, but I would do so in an alternate universe DLC if I were playing a Nathaniel Howe type character, someone with a story and some emotional investment what's going on.
The interview mentions that the player will burn down the tree in the alienage and can bring their knowledge from playing the original game to know how this would impact the elves.  I certainly don't need to burn the tree myself to understand how the elves will feel about it, and I'd rather have a game where I can feel things from my current character's point of view.
I know that for some people this will be a lot of fun, but there are also a lot of people who buy Bioware games not for the action and dungeon crawling, but for the story and characters, and the sense of immersion into the world. This DLC seems to lack all of that.
