Sure, your warden could be this super awesome warrior person that gives you the decisive victory. But I hope they make it so without him all humans don't just go under without putting up a fight or at least cripple the dark spawn in some way, your warden didn't do all that alone <.<

Think of it this way, if everyone could succeed anyway without your Warden being involved, doesn't that mean he's simply insignificant? It's like, "Hey, we just did the whole game without you!"
