Question for the Developers: Was DA:O & Awakening tested on Windows 7 64-bit or not?

EA, however, say that it hasn't been tested with 64-bit systems.
Which is correct?
I haven't got any problems running DA:O on Win 7 x64 under patch 1.02a, but have major issues with patch 1.03 & would appreciate knowing if 1.03 and/or Awakening was tested on these systems. Thanks.

Define "running"? It isn't any worse or any better on Windows 7 64. Still runs like untested crap, same on any system.
I approve this message!
I've (attempted) to run this on both a XP and 7 64 rig and get crashes on both.

As for the OP's question: You can try email EA, or PMing a developer or Bioware worker on the forum.

What really got me was the bug at the end of the game, where I watched the credits then was transported back to fighting the mother again, and again, and again.

Well, neither of those are unique to 64-bit systems, so....
ETA: Just occurred to me that the profile update issue isn't even unique to the PC. Don't know if the other one is.

Yes it will and yes they will too. As will the toolset.

EA had already responded, saying that DA:O was not tested on Windows 7, which contradicts the Microsoft compatibility statement, which is why I have asked for a public answer.
There is already a thread where the developers ask for system specs to help them troubleshoot http://social.biowar...8/index/2183461
There are more reports there for Windows 7 than any other OS.
Since this question has arisen in other threads I hope a developer will give us the definitive answer. I'm not sure that EA support really know/care.

Origins does on my system, as do the toolset, RtO, and Warden's Keep. Anything that requires patch 1.03 (which comes with Awakening and was available separately before Awakening was released) does not run for more than a few minutes before it crashes - making the expansion & more recent DLC unplayable (for me - your mileage may vary).

The reason you need an answer is that EA is basically using that "was not tested" line as a cop out answer for any complaint raised when you contact them for support. I think this is really unfair to you guys.
Fan: "Hey, EA, I have this problem. My previously purchased DLC no longer show up when I log into my account."
EA rep: "The game wasn't tested on windows 7. You're out of luck." (whew, that's one less pesky customer to deal with. and less work for us to sort out. tee hee)

It helps to check your system for registry errors, especially .dll errors. I found 5 or 6 in a cleanly installed and fully updated system. Since repairing these, DA hasn't crashed once. This also fixed the "installation failed - data error" problems.

Because most people have Windows 7, maybe?
And as someone already said, EA would suggest not using Windows 7 along with cleaning out your internet history (true story, they actually do suggest that...morons) to flipping your pc upside down instead of giving any real advice.

I've run Awakenings on Windows 7 64-bit for about 40 hours with no crashes at all. (No, I'm not making that up.) I haven't played a lot of Origins since I switched from XP, but I do have all the DLCs installed and had no problems.

Just curious how you found out which .dll's where bad and how you repaired them?
Also, to everyone else, thanks for all the answers. I have WinXP (32 bit) now but just bought Win 7-64 so that I can see all 4GB that I have installed. I've had a few crashes with DA:O but I haven't purchased any DLC's yet and was planning to, until I read the 1.03 patch issues.

Use a program such as Advanced System Care or CCcleaner to fix registy errors. You can find them at www.download.com

I used Advanced Registry Optimizer The trial version is limited, but will still give you enough to fix quite a few errors. Any .dll file errors will show up under the deep scan details. I was so happy with the results, I bought the program.

Yet Origins runs far, far better on multicore:
System Requirements, Benchmarks and Graphics Tuning
Dragon Age: Origins CPU benchmarks - 75 percent boost for quad-cores
If you look around this forum there are people who are getting better performance after 1.03 by restricting the game to one core. It seems 1.03 was a major backward step.
NB: Shame no developers have responded here.

It's interesting that the system specs for Origins were better than for Awakening. On the EA site it emphasises Awakening requiring a single core.
Where are you seeing that? I'm looking at the game info page right now, and I don't see anything about multi vs. single core. Is this buried on the support site somewhere?

I've noticed that before on EA - different pages load depending on where you click from and/or your geo location. This is the screenshot ...

OK. Found it. Turns out, however, that the store shows the same thing for Origins (and checking my box, I found it's the same there too):
Minimum Requirements:
OS: Windows XP (SP3) or Windows Vista (SP1) or Windows 7
CPU: Intel Core 2 SINGLE 1.6 Ghz Processor or equivalent / AMD 64
2.0 Ghz Processor or equivalent
RAM: 1 GB (1.5 GB Vista and Windows 7)
DISC DRIVE: DVD Rom drive required for packaged media
HARD DRIVE: 20 GB HD space
VIDEO: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater / NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT
128MB or greater. Vista: Radeon X1550 256MB / NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
256MB
SOUND: Direct X Compatible Sound Card
Which is bizarre, because over on the Bioware FAQ page we get this for the min reqs:
OS: Windows XP with SP3 or Windows Vista with SP1
CPU: Intel Core 2(or equivalent) running at 1.4Ghz or greater
AMD X2(or equivalent) running at 1.8Ghz or greater
RAM: 1GB or more
VIDEO: ATI Radeon X850 128MB or greater
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space
So basically, Bioware seems to have its own ideas about what the min specs are. And of course, Bioware doesn't include Windows 7, 64-bit or no. In other words: WTF?
ETA: Oh, and of course the recommended specs are slightly different too.

Can you see what's happening? Different specs are showing up for different geographical regions. From the same site I got the other screenshot, here's the Origins requirements:
That's strange. Those specs basically match what's on Bioware's DA FAQ site, but not the US EA store. The recommended ones also match up, but then they leave out the AMD CPU info on all of them. What the hell? Are they just forgetting to update their websites?

I can tell why it is just like that on the EA store, they don't care if your PC specs can handle it or not enough to make sure it is correct. They just want your cash, for a reference for above... look at their tech support.
