I think most people want more story/character based DLC, after all the story/characters/dialogue are why I play Bioware games. Stuff like the Darkspawn Chronicles isn't bad, its just a fun little diversion I guess while waiting for the real stuff.

I see this as a bit of filler to keep interest in DA while work is no doubt being done on a more substantial release down the road. A snack to tide us over till dinner is ready. Nothing wrong with that really. I'll probably give it a look without any huge expectations.
I like your metaphor, but I prefer snacks that don't flip the table upside down, and suddenly serve me nachos & boxwine when I was expecting at least a few small tapas plates of haute cuisine until the next really big meal comes along.

Instead of Darkspawn Chronicles?, Something to cover the gap for your character between origins and awakenings?,
Companion DLC?
maybe even you get to play as a Mabari

I'll vote for companion dlc. I don't generally dislike the idea to switch roles for a short wile and play a small episode as someone different, but playing a mute and brainless Darkspawn storming Denerim to slay every being alive? C'mon BW, is the whole writing team on vacation? DA is a roleplaying game, if i would want to play mindless hack & slay, i would buy a different game than DA.
But playing a chapter as Alistair, Morrigan or Leliana and discover a secret or hidden part of the story or something more about their personal background could be very fascinating.

The only problem I see with conversation DLC is that I wouldn't have much motivation to reload the game just to get a few more lines of dialogue. It breaks immersion, kinda rewinds an already finished game, and just doesn't add much. Don't focus on conversation and companion DLCs, focusing on getting more conversations and companions into FUTURE games.

What I would love to see in DA DLC would be some meaningful story focused episodic content. For example, have the player play as a totally new character that winds up being either a party member or important NPC in the next sequel/expansion. Kind of like think if prior to Origins' release they had maybe 3 episodes of DLC where you could have played as Duncan and it all lead up to where Origins starts off.

I don't think that people would be quite as irritated if it didn't seem so much like Bioware was trying to distance themselves from the Origins characters and storyine. Only The Stone Prisoner and RtO have related to the main story, and while I enjoyed RtO, it was a slapdash affair with unchallenging combat and exceedingly minimal voice acting. It also didn't affect the main story at all, when there was dialogue there that really needed to be adjusted. Awakening had only the one cameo that was really too short. I was expecting more than that. Not to have that person/persons on the team, but to at least have a conversation or two. I could say more about Awakening, but that would be off topic.
In any case, when we were promised two years of DLC, I thought each would be the equivalent of an in-game quest, something along the lines of the sacred urn quest. The Stone Prisoner was the only one that came close to that. There should have been so much more to RtO that it makes me sad. If the same effort had been put into it as the Stone Prisoner, it would have been amazing.
With each DLC, many have been saying, 'we want more story, we want the companions, we want their voice actors back', so to have the first DLC out after what was, to many, a very disappointing expansion, be this--a non-story based battle scenario where you brutally kill the characters people have been asking repeatedly to see again, feels a bit insulting.

I mean, the weather is really nice outside and I keep thinking it'd be cool to leave from in front of the computer a bit... go do "other stuff."
Might be nice to have just a short, fun, inexpensive little excursion into Ferelden.
By the time Feb 1, 2011 hits, it'll be dead in the middle of another seemingly endless Michigan winter for me and a perfect time for something more in depth to spend every waking minute obsessing over, like I did with Origins.

I've got this bad feeling that the work Corinne Kempa was talking about was a one line Leliana has in this DLC before you're forced to kill her... I swear, that would be such a massive slap in the face that my head would probably come off.MistySun wrote...
Anything but darkspawn. i was hoping it would be the Leliana DLC. But as long as it was something to do with the companions (or indeed DAO or Awakenings) would of been fine.
But NOT DARKSPAWN crap.

I don't know about that, some people (me) still playthrough this game many different times and would love some new companion interactions. But I agree with needing to fix the game, however.Harcken wrote...

The "Dungeons" presented to date in DLC have been fairly lacklustre. No new monsters (AFAIK).
I mean if you made 1-2 new enemies with a few variants and spun a dungeon around this new enemy theme...
Here are a few ideas off the top of my head...
1. The Drowning Cave...a new aquatic menace threatens a coastal village, some villagers have been dominated by these invaders, others live in fear and paranoia. Can the heroes oust this menace and how can they tell friend from foe?
2. Rampage of the High Golem...a dwarven secret weapon has been released, crushing villages in its wake, with mad cultists starting to worship it as 'the Destroyer'. The key to its destruction lies somewhere in the Deep Roads but will Ferelden still be standing by the time the heroes return, and thats assuming they will return caught between Darkspawn and Mad Cultists.
3. The Melting Tower...once home to a renowned wizard, now overrun with his experiments including relentless oozes and living spells. The heroes must race against time to find the one weapon which could plunge all of Ferelden into a civil war. Against them, perhaps the most feared Mercenary outfit in the world, Steel Plague, but who is their employer?
4. The Reign of Frogs...and ancient artifact unearthed has caused a contagion which is slowly transforming the people of Redcliffe into toads. Can the heroes reverse the misfortunes of thousands or will they too croak it?
5. The Creeping Forest...what causes a forest to uproot itself and march across the land? Where is it going and why? Do any heroes dare enter and solve this mystery?

This.
I mean...who came up with these DLC themes?...better yet, who was the overlord who thought it was a good idea, approved it, and committed money to develop it?
Yes, insulting is a good description.

I think a Yojimbo/Red Harvest style dlc where a local town is taken over by rival gangs with possible demonic influences would be cool... I was thinking of making it, but to make it really awesome would be way beyond my available free time.
I also think playing as Anders escaping the tower would be awesome. I would love to see the final fate of Mr. W.
