the modder community only mods for the pc and does not have any qa process they must go through. bioware has their own qa, xbox qa, and ps3 qa to go through before anything can be released. plus, if even one problem is found they have to fix that and start the qa process all over again.otis0310 wrote...
Sentinel has already been patched unofficialy. All dlc can brought in to Awakening due to an unofficial patch. And the Dragon Age continuity problem with Anora as queen is patched unofficially. As far as I know, bioware has not patched any of these. This begs the question as to why the modder community can create patches faster than the company that made the game? Doesn't it?

Bioware is a huge corporation with heaps of employees getting paid to work on the different formats as well as QA.
They should be able to get this fixed faster than a single person can, unless the employees only get paid by the hour.

All depends what red tape they have to waltz through first. I remember when there were problems with RTO, it took quite awhile for everything to get fixed and issued, PC and XBox users saw RTO first..with PS3 users quite awhile later.
Everything has to be run through Microsoft, and Sony..possibly Nintendo ..and pass their requirements before we see anything. That would probably also include any patches..for the MS, Sony and Nintendo platforms.
Its easy to sit here and criticize and assume that the gaming company doesn't care or doesn't know what they are doing..but none of us here actually knows what goes on behind the scenes, or knows how long it takes to get things done.
It also has something to do with whatever priority..patches have on their list of "to do"...things.
Bioware is producing much more than we see here or have bought already. I am sure they are fairly busy.
They have made new testing perimeters as well, from what I remember Victor stating...so if new, it probably takes longer.
Beeching about it ..won't get it done faster, I am sure those that work on coding are not sitting here reading the forums...hehe

Yep, no waiting approval nor payment considerations to MS/Sony past first update/title update/whatever they call it nowadays.

No doubt about it ... takes longer to test for 4 platforms, plus with the 2 console platforms some politburo of officially approved online content has to approve the patch being available to players.
No, I understand this will take some time, what I don't understand is the delay or hesitance toward communicating with the community/forumgoers.
I know I would shut up if they would just say "Hi Guys. Bio Patch Team here. We're working on 1.04. It should solve some of the most common problems. It will be out some time in 2010." They don't need to be more specific on what they'll fix or how long it'll take than that -- but they've still not issued that statement, in those words, or similar thereof. "We're working on it and looking into things" != "Patch 1.04 is coming".
Now, I know this is selfish of me, but I'll still state they should focus on fixing the things modders can't (esp. that rather nasty Silverite Mines bug), because modfixes exist for many issues. Of course, I realize, that won't help console players.

I agree, these things happen, and they take time to fix, what I'm sure causes unrest in these forums is lack of communication. If we could get a Bioware representative to give an update at least once every two weeks, there wouldn't be so many people complaining, or asking "When are they going to patch it already?".
Re-assurance is important, and maybe they don't even know when the patch is going to be ready, but giving a heads up would certainly tone down the tension people are having towards Bioware. I don't know why they aren't telling us anything, I wouldn't want to think they're just being careless, and generally, I think it's better to be open, and honest, rather than keeping everyone in the dark.

I hope you're right, and since this post is 4 months old, I assume this fix should be ready soon. Please fix this, I'm gonna do another Awakening playthrough to prepare for Golems of Amgarrak, and it would be niced to have this issue resolved without having to do a half assed do it yourself fix.Zy-El wrote...

I second your notion, though I refuse to hold my breath!

PS3 exclusive? I assume everybody assume the "single platform" is the one he likes best.Worrow wrote...

Regardless I can bet this bug wouldn't been fixed no matter what platforms DAO came out for.

QA is the slowest and dearest part of any developers job. I doubt a game of this complexity could be released to the public if the QA process was done properly as each time they find and fix a bug, they have to test th entire game from scratch to make sure the changes don't affect anything else and this process costs time and money.stubbieAussie wrote...

You are wrong on this one, says Victor W. in his remarks to the then-upcoming patch 1.04:
"Unfortunately, we are unable to fix the issues concerning these armor sets and the Vigilance Sword. Due to various limitations surrounding what we can and cannot patch concerning DLC content, very strict limits in the size of console title updates, and the state of some of the assets we attempted to implement, we regret to inform you that these items will not be fixed at this time."

Yes, they could have fixed this problem for the PC, but not the consoles. Since it could not be fixed for all platforms, it will not be fixed at all. They are aware of the problem and will avoid the pitfalls of coding the same way for future DLC.

Edit: Alright, I reloaded my save just before the fight with The Withered and Anora showed this time, I haven't a clue as to why it was wrong the first time I tried. This temporary fix works and it's fine for now, but a more permanent solution is preferable.

It took over 7 months before the 1.04 patch came out, do you really think communication every 2 weeks with poor predictions for release dates would help and not fuel the anger when the release date is pushed back repeatedly?CrimsonSamuraiX wrote...
