So I had this idea the other day, we all know the problem everyone is having with helmets.

So
instead of reintroducing the "toggle helmet" button, why not integrate
it with the story and gameplay.

Collapsible helmets. The weapons
do it, why not the helmets too. When Shepard is not in combat the helmet
collapses, when he is it fully forms around his head.

I've included a couple of sketches to futher convey my idea.

Click for Awesome Sketches!!!

EDIT:

A lot people are under the impression that I'm offering this idea up as a bastion for helmet toggling in Mass Effect 2.  This is not the case, enjoy ME2 for the game that is...not the game you want it to be.  Remember Mass Effect 3 is just around the corner, start voicing your ideas for the final installment, not the most recent one.

EDIT #2:

This seems to be garnering a lot of support, so please enjoy this awesome banner made by Epantiras.

EDIT #4:

DO NOT SAY "SIGNED" or any derivative there of, I don't want this thread removed because Mr. Woo thinks it's a petition.  Instead, show your support by putting a banner in your sig.

EDIT #5:

If YOU have more ideas about Mass Effect armor, or armor based DLC ideas for ME2 please refer to Blk_Mage_Ctype's super awesome (and stickied) ME2 & ME3 DLC Armor Wishlist thread...It's a good thing.

I fully support this. Signed.

As long as they make it look realistic; if particularly bulky, the helmet could emerge from inside the suit collar like a layered armor plating. That could look particularly awesome on a krogan. If it's a visor or some other lightweight head gear, simply have the visor hologram turn off when not in battle, or fold it like in your sketches.

Signed. I love the illustrations you did. If this isn't integrated into 2, it damn well better be integrated into 3. VERY clever idea.

Well, I can already tell you it's not in 2, in fact the "helmet always on" thing has been a big complaint among the community since it was released.

I've seen this idea played with before on this site, and I must say that, considering the way the guns fold up out of combat, this is the perfect in-universe solution.

Creative, I can imagine watching the changes. It would be very cool.

There are a "bunch" of artists and programmers working this trilogy, all that brain power could not come up with something remotely different than what was launched, I would not have much faith in something this creative be discussed.

Ha, I know what you mean.  I actually used that scene as reference for the sketches.

Fantastic idea, surely this has to be implemented into ME3.

My thoughts exactly, it certainly wouldn't be canon considering neither of the other two games had this...

...unless Shepard didn't  know that feature existed.

"Shepard: *Takes a drink and spills it everywhere*  GOD DAMMIT!  Stupid helmet!!!
Turian Bartender: You know they collapse right?
Shepard: Wha?
Turian Bartender: *Presses button on Shepard's helmet*
Shepard: HOLY SH*T!!!  That's awesome!
Turian Bartender: ...stupid human."

Joey with a cool collapsable helmet was weird...

I support this idea, it may be too late for ME2 but it would be great for ME3

Good idea, i've always thought this would be the most obvious solution to bioware happens in so many films and a few other games.. Why not here? /signed for sure.

And nice quality sketches you did though the middle visor looks really annoyed and the no visor looks happy, intended? or am i just being odd lol.

Agreed. I might actually wear a helmet in ME3 with this.

The Lost in Space remake (1998) had a great example of this. The spiders attack major West and his helmet rises up from his armor and around his head.

Precisely, though I feel the helmets rising from the armor might be a little problematic considering its a fully modular suit with multiple interchangable parts, whereas West's armor was basically one piece.  Just helmets collapsing might be an easier fix, though like cruc1al said it could get bulky looking.

Helmet rising from the suit would be perfect for full body armors like all the DLC armors. Headgear for modular suits would be different, of course, since the headgear wouldn't be inherently part of the armor.

Good point, by the way, just finished watching the vids in your sig.  Very comprehensive work my friend.

The collapsing helmets in the original stargate film were pretty good as well.

Ditto.

This is the best idea I have heard for the helmet problem.

Signed! :)
