Bumping this thread cause i haven't seen it before and it's totally needed next time around.
Dragon age realized the need to see Squadmates and characters faces during dialog and interactions, I think ME needs to at least utilize the same system. If shepard is having a convo in a safe, oxygenated environment, the helmet needs to be out of the way. It's a game based on digital acting, why would you hide all your animator's work behind a mask?
Collapsible Helmets: Laying the problem to rest.

this would be GREAT. though im not sure i like the idea of not being able to turn it off. i'd MUCH rather be able to decide when the helm collapses myself than have it happen automatically.

I like this idea. Not sure if its been suggested, but they could set it to automatically construct upon pulling up your gun. Like going into a combat mode. When you leave combat mode (returning the gun to your back), it could collapse again.

ATTENTION: ANYONE WHO WANTS COLLAPSIBLE HELMETS SHOULD POST IT IN THEIR SIGS!!!
Seriously, I see alot of people with empty sigs going "good idea, I want this to happen" but unless we get the word out some other way than continuously bumping this topic over and over again, then it's hopeless.
So if you REALLY wanna see this happen, then take one of the banners from the OP and post it as your sig!

I kind of thought that the helmets looked like they could do that, at least with the default helmet,
kind of reminded me of the snakeheads on stargate

Agreed and it should include a collapsable breathing mask for the helmet as well - at the moment the N7 helmet seems to be the only helmet wearable in vacuum for Shepard.

The Capacitor helmet could just have the visor part "fade".

would definitely be an interesting idea to see implemented and it could lead to epic story moments, like when Shepard is getting ready for a battle, then he says some awesome one liner, and the helmet goes on.
