What if you like wearing a helmet all the time? I like it...
Could always be a toggle-function like holstering your weapon and such. Just hit a button and your helmet collapses or unfolds.

Having the helmets link to the weapons would be a good idea, so everything collapses at once. Battle mode vs civilian mode. Honestly, I've been one thinking we should have our casual wear in areas like Illium or the Citadel, but this works too.
As for the visor from Harrot's shop, just let it stay there. I personally use that most often because I like the look of it, and I get to see Shepard's face all the time. The Archon visor and other such things could "fade" as someone mentioned before. Sure, this will require additional animations, but it's a step that feels necessary.

That's... if we don't get a helmet toggle. I still like a helmet toggle, but this seems like an excellent compromise if "realisim" is preventing a helmet toggle.
I still don't understand why you can strap/clip your helmet onto your back/waist somewhere. That seems like an easy solution.

The issue of helmet toggle aside, this is just plain awesome regardless.

YES YES YEESSS A MILLION TIMES YEESSSSSS.
BIOWARE please please please do this for ME3, this is completely badasz and is a perfect solution for the helmet toggle/kissing helmets/drinking through metal issue.
Pleeeeaaaase????

I've probably said it before, but really, just take your helmet off before a conversation if you want to see Shepard's face.

Um Im not sure if you're referring to ME2....in the game you can only "take off" your helmet by accessing the armor closet in your ship. So there's absolutely no way to "take off" your helmet anywhere or anyway during a mission.
Also, note I put take off in quotes because choosing not to wear a helmet during a certain mission isn't taking it off...that's not equipping it. So our choice right now is don't wear a helmet so you can believably interact with characters and the environment or wear one but look idiotic when people try to kiss you or you drink something, etc.
Yeah. Great.

Yeah for the ones like the Kestrel, that would definitly make sense if could just have something that pops out to cover the area where flesh is showing.Gemini1179 wrote...
Crazy. I was just thinking this out of the blue the other day. It started kind of opposite when I noticed that if you have the Kestrel helmet equipped and go to a non-regular air environment, Shepard wears the N7 full helmet instead of having a mouthpiece come out of the Kestrel helmet. Heck even the tiny breather that Miranda wears (her hair and eyes must be immune to pressure changes, etc) would complete the helmet just fine. Then I got thinking of the collapse-able part during a conversation...
I don't like the idea of the Visor being collapsible though, seems pointless because if I remember rightly the main issue people had with regards the helmets was the whole drinking/kissing situation. The Visor doesn't stop that. Same with all the visors really
But yup for the helmets if they could work a way for the OPs idea to work, I wouldn't mind seeing it. I far more like this idea than the plain 'helmet toggle' idea because it has a more RP logic to it than just one minute helmet there, next minute it gone during cut-scene and then *poof* it's back once cut-scene has ended. Least with this idea, whilst it still is a 'toggle' of sorts, it's more RP functional in that for the most part you can control it and see the helmet collapsing rather than just magically popping out of existence (hope that made sense).
My only slight concern is, for some helmets wouldn't it look a bit odd? What I mean is, surely the designs would have to stick to same formula. The Death Mask illustration imho is a bit unbelievable.
Also I wouldn't want this for every helmet. I can't see how it could be done for the likes of the Cerberus Armor or Recon Hood and I liked both of those and hope they return in ME3. In ME2 if I am ever going somewhere where I know I might be drinking or my Shep getting a kiss, I tend to wear one of the visors or nothing at all. Personally I'm still of the opinion that they could make it so that on HUB places in the main areas where there are bars and such we should be able to wear our 'casual' gear. Somehow I doubt modern day soldiers would go into a bar for drinks in full combat gear, so to me it seems silly they would in the future.
Collapsible helmets on the other hand work for those times when out in the field and erm, just by chance happen to run into someone you love and want to kiss them
