I am a level 28 Soldier in Insanity as Freedom's Progress, and I am having a hard time. The one thing that really gets on my nerves is the fact that I put auto-level on, Jacob learned Squad Incendiary. So everytime I try to use Disruptor, he would use Incendiary and I would have a hell of a time fighting Mechs. I turned off Squad Power usage a long tmie ago as well.

Jacob is a lost cause there. Honestly I'd turn off all auto level & auto power usage and start over. Only let Jacob take his 1 point in his ammo skill so he doesn't ruin the rest of the team's ammo powers.

BTW: NG+ Insantity is pretty hard with the soldier. Once you get your L3 weapon upgrades [and other unlocked weapon upgrades] you'll be fine though.

Yeah thanks for the tip! A little too late now as the points have already been distributed. I hope I can beat it.

The first fight on freedom's progress is for many one of the toughest fights during the game, unfortunately. That's partly because they're not expecting a tough fight early on, but anyway... I find that the sniper rifle is often a good call in tricky situations; don't be afraid to use it even at relatively short ranges if it earns you a quick kill with little exposure to enemy fire.

You can beat it but it will be much more annoying than it should be. Are you having problems with getting into crossfile with mechs & mech dogs?? If so let Jacob use his squad ammo powers to strip armor. Against a YMIR use your heavy weapon ... it will make things less annoying -- also run for one of the buildings as the YMIR [IIRC] isn't allowed to get so close that you can't whittle them down.

Edit:  What's your weapons loadout?  If we know what weapons you have maybe we can give better advice?

Set up a retreat point outside (as in, leave squadmates in cover a fair way back) ... use a warp explosion to take down the first 2 lokis, then retreat.

The fenris mechs are fast, the lokis are slow, so you can divide and conquer.

Well I just have the basic Avenger, Mantis, Grenade Launcher, Predator and Katana. ONe of the most annoying aspects is that Jacob has Squad Incendiary, and always uses it in battle and it overrides my Disruptor Ammo in crucial battle. I finally figured a work-around, which consists of mapping "Throw' on the D-pad and continually spamming it. I hope I do not have to resort to doing this with other characters :/

You're not far in the game ... you could just restart your game and turn off auto leveling.

Level is irrelevant ... if you just imported a ME2 character, squadmates should have all their points unspent.

Really?! Daaammnnnn thank you sooo much! I'm definitely restarting. Once the points have been distributed, that is when it is  undo-able. Thanks so much!

My advice with a NG+ soldier insanity run is this. Before you start, make sure you have heightened adrenaline rush and not hardened. If you have to go back from the previous game to respec, then do so. If you took the revenant from the previous game, shelve it for now and use the vindicator and the viper. until you can research the accuracy upgrade. That won't happen until after horizon, so you can respec then. Try using the viper/vindicator combo until then. It's pretty deadly even on a NG+ inanity run.

Take off auto level, and take off auto squad power usage. That way if someone has a squad version of a power, they will turn it on once, then you can put your desired ammo power and it will override it.

Jacob isn't a bad squadmate of have with a soldier FYI. Give him inferno and pull field. It compliments miranda;s warp and you can set up some warp explosions that way. Don't let freedom's progress get you down. It's probably one of the hardest missions in the game in NG+ because you don't have the better weapons. Take energy drain as a bonus until you get mordin.

I'm not sure, but I think Jacob starts with 1 point on incendiary ammo. In "Lazarus project", when you find him, he's already using it.

I assume it's the first group of mechs giving you trouble, just plant your squadmates behind cover in the previous room, shoot the mechs then get behind the cover in the middle of the previous room then just pick everything off as it comes around the corner. Another problem might be the first set of gun turrets, they always end up killing my squad, just takes a long time :(

Yeah, he does.
The OP's problem is jacob overriding Shepard's ammo power with his squad incendiary, though. So it's not an issue even if he has inferno or something.

Great advice as well! I think Hardened was probably more useful in easier game modes as it is easy to take down most enemies, whereas the damage reduction is not that amazing as every enemy can eat your health like nothing. Too bad I'm still using it. I finally beat Freedom's Progress thanks to everyones help!

excepting first mission 'freedom progress', I don't bring 'jacob' for any battle. why? he performs sucks. what will you do with freaking short gun when there are hell of enemies coming to you? his battle skill is not helping at all. Miranda is way better.

Pull is a win, though. Sure, Jack is a better option than Jacob, but until you recruit her ...

hmm...is there any difference on insanity when importing an me1 character w/me2 beaten versus ng+ insanity? I've been mostly starting over to try out new classes, so I'm not sure if all insanity difficulties are equal or not.

The formulae the game uses to determine its numbers is exactly the same in either version of insanity.
However ...
Enemies are level scaled. So with a high level character and no upgrades, NG+ is actually much harder at the beginning.
At the end, of course, it's exactly the same.
