3.  Problem Details

Ok I have done my homework on this problem, here is what happens, then I will list everything I have tried.

I try and launch ME, the splash screen shows up, then the screen fades to black with my cursor appearing in the middle as the little windows working circle, and it just stays like that.

I have tried: Running EVERYTHING as administrator, please consider those routes exhausted, I have re-installed twice using admin privilages, steam as admin etc.
I have tried compatibility modes
I have tried to launch it from its .exe file
I have disabled UAC in windows
I have updated my video drivers, and tried w/ and w/o sli
I have downloaded the bring down the sky DLC and installed it
I have disabled my anti-virus
I have changed the sounds settings from software to hardware
I have tried it windowed with low settings
I have sacrificed a small goat.

I am going completely nuts, I haven't ever played this game but just graduated and wanted to try it out, but I can't! Steam support is completely impossible to get a hold of, and I don't know what to do!!!!

Occasionally, for some unknown reason, ME will cogitate for 20 to 30 minutes after starting to load, before it finally acknowledges having been started.  How long have you given it to sit there thinking to istelf?   It probably wasn't nearly long enough.

Probably two to three minutes, will it do this everytime?

I will go start it and leave it alone.

Ah, there's your problem. It's the AMD deity that likes goats; if you have an Nvidia card, your patron god will tend to prefer seafood.

Okay, more seriously... have you tried installing the latest DirectX 9.0c from Microsoft? DX10 is a separate library. That's the only thing I can think of that wasn't on your list.

Ty for the suggestion, I tried it but it didn't work either. I'm quite discouraged by this whole situation.

I DID IT! AHAHA! I recommend making this post a sticky!

http://social.biowar.../index/656205/2

At first I did what this post said, which was to delete OpenAL32.dll and rename wrap_oal.dll to that filename, but from a previous attempt I had replaced BOTH from a windows file (always sterilize each correction attempt!). Anyway that fixed it! Hopefully some other frustrated soul will find this faster than I did in the future!
