When I was reading the "Dragon Age-the stolen throne" book....
it sounded, to me anyway, that Maric is Morrigan's father.
Flemeth does a favor for Maric and asks for something in return.
so, He goes into her hut and comes out later looking pale.
He won't tell Logaine what the favor was for her.
Seems like the age is correct for Morrigan being around 27 years old (per bioware).

If this is the case, it makes the dark ritual with Alistair all the more dark since he is Maric's son too.

Yep. This is quite a popular theory.

What, you don't think a mentally handicapped baby can handle the powers of an Old God?

This is a common misconception. Children of incest are not necessarily automatically mentally handicapped or deformed. They are just more likely to be so.

Incest is far more of a problem if it's continued over generations - that's when the serious birth defects and abnormalities start coming to the fore.

I like the theory seen posted on the forums that she has Dragon blood; explains the hypnotic eyes.

I don't buy it, even Morrigan isn't sure if she came from Flemmeth's womb or was kidnapped. And Flemmeth had plenty of "company" coming to her house if you pay attention to Alistair and her arguing in the background.

We kind of know what Flemeth talked about; the coming Blight and the need to let the Grey Wardens back into Ferelden. We also know that Flemeth told Morrigan that she used to bed Chasind men and then kill them, and that she expected Morrigan to do the same once she came of age. Also, Flameth looked too old to bear children when Maric met her, and Morrigan says that you can't shapechange into a different member of your own species. So, I doubt it, even though it's a fun idea.

Yeah, I think the secret promise is more to do with the grey wardens then getting Meric to give her his seed.  They were exiled for 200 years before Meric let them back in.  And the dark promise achievement is achieved when a grey warden impregnates Morrigan which makes me think it's more to do with the wardens then anything else.

I believe the ratio is somewhere around 25% mentally handicapped, 25 % deformed 50% normal.

Actually, Maric is not her father. The promise he made to her has absolutely nothing to do with Morrigan. I don't want to say any more because that would be spoiling all of Dragon Age: The Silent Grove and the comic series Until We Sleep, both of which are awesome and totally worth reading. The Silent Grove explains everything.

Someone repeated the Maric theory in the DAI forum.
Don't know if it's true.
The other poster mentioned incest if Allistair does the dark ritual .
Can't see Gaider purposefully doing that.
I guess it could have slipped past him.
We need proof.
If true, we'll find out in DAI.

The timelines don't add up. When you first meet them in DAO, Alistair is about 20 and Morrigan 18, at least in the World of Thedas timeline. Maric was 18 when he went into Flemeth's hut and about 24 when he was made king. Unless part of the discussion they had involved a compulsion to go back in 10 years or so, Maric isn't Morrigan's father.

The King Arthur/Morgan leFey/Mordred parallel was drawn and it would be a neat Easter egg if it was accurate.

I thought the guy proposing it was too sure of himself. Morrigan seems a lot older than 18.
I have an 18 year old daughter away in college .
Just found out she had a nose ring put in, without telling me.
Grumble.
So 18 year old can be independent .
Still Morrigan seems older than 18.
There are discrepancies in some of the DA timelines. This might be another.

I'll agree with you that the timelines in the books/comics/games is inconsistent, which is why I referred to the timeline in The World of Thedas.  My sympathies, Angrywolves, on the teenager.  My youngest just turned 24 and they do eventually grow out of that stage.  I lucked out.  Neither of my kids got any controversial piercings or tatoos.  My partner has two Celtic tatoos but they were done a)to express his cultural heritage and b)before I had any influence on his body.  He hasn't got the horse of Uppington on his thigh yet like he wants but it's only a matter of time.  I'll pick my battles and if I have any say in the matter I won't.  Better he should waste his money on a tatoo or piercing than on a tart who'll give the impression of taking him seriously.  I actually like the one tatoo with the Celtic knotwork going around his upper arm.  I had a friend in college with a nose piercing and it was pretty silly.  The good news about piercings is that they grow back if you let them.  Hold onto this thought.  Eventually, she'll be glad of it.

Thanks my friend.
I hope you are right.
Who do you believe Morrigan's father is?
Or the fathers of the other witches.
I expect we'll meet some of them in DAI.
Allistar supposedly killed one of the witches in one of Gaider's books.
We'll learn, I hope, if that was a good thing or a bad thing.

I have to assume Morrigan's father was one of the Chasind guests Morrigan refers to in one of her banters with Alistair. Morrigan also tells Zevran that he's just the kind her mother would go for - not likely to be missed. I'm thinking that the function of Morrigan's father was simply to provide genetic material and was forgotten about afterward.

Haven't read Gaider's books or comics .
Don't feel like I should have to.
I read a lot of sf.
Doesn't make sense Flemeth would select random barbarians when could presumably seduce males from the exceptional end of the genetic pool.

Long story short, Shes a demon called the formless one and she has multiple daughters across Thedas, Maric is still alive and the concept of dragon blooded is presented (bloodline who will change the world)

Also Lohgain isnt such a bad guy, and Alistairs mother is a heavily tainted grey warden city elf ex-circle mage. Duncan is also a thieving dick.
