Dear BioWare,

I just finished my first playthrough of Mass Effect 2.

Wow... What a ride! I gotta say, I wasn't really looking forward to it after playing through ME1, which had just a little too much tedious activities for my taste. But even though planet scanning isn't that great either, the rest of the game just completely swept me off my feet. The world, the people, the attention to detail, the believebilty of it all, I even dare go as far as to say it surpasses that of both Star Trek and Wars. And the suicide mission... Oh man - pure genius!

That being said, the point to this post is the character of Legion and why I think he should return in ME3. Here's why. The Mass Effect universe has a great variety of colorful characters, all with extensively thought-out stories and races. In the end, however, they're all more or less derived from the usual 'high fantasy' suspects. Humans are humans, Asari are high-elves, Turians dark-elves (though lawful), Krogan's are the orc's (or dwarves), Salarians and Quarians are the fidgety inventive races (usually gnomes or goblins in most works of fantasy-fiction), and then there's some lesser races that just seem like variations of the main races or the result of a hazy night, like the Vorcha, Drell, Volus, Batarians, Hanar (srsly wut?) and Elcor. Even Legion's race, the Geth, is not necessarily that special. Sentient robot's have been done.

Legion himself however, is completely different from all of these. He is both a sentient robot with a personality (though light - in a way like Data from Star Trek), a democratic government and an outcast that just want's to learn and be understood. I can't think of a character in any other game, book or film (though I'm sure there are some examples) that encompasses all of these things. And on top of that he's a rifle-wielding robot with awesome looks and a cool voice. Some might mistake him for a boring robot like the other Geth, but if you look deeper you might see what I see. On my version of the suicide mission I had him set up as the technician (mostly because I was boning Tali and already wanted Miranda to lead the fire team). And when he got shot in the face at the end of the sequence (even though he was loyal) - I was truly heartbroken. In more ways then I'd like to admit, he was my very own AWESOME-O 3000.

Needless to say, Legion needs to return in ME3. He gives the Mass Effect universe even more variety then it already has, and he could serve as the ambassador to the acceptance of the Geth. An idea for those that lost him (like me) would be to have him salvaged from the collector base and rebuild (Tali's dad and his science team seemed to be able to do it). This would of course require you to have saved the base.

Also, if you do put him in the game, please name his Loyalty quest "HELP COMPUTER!", after this legendary GI.JOE PSA by Fensler.

I agree. When I saw Legion for the first time, I found him fascinating. I enjoyed all the conversations with him (I wish there were more lines!) and I hope he'll return in ME3 (as a love interest ^^).

I don't think Bioware will just put him aside, he's a great source to tell the player about Geth and their methods. Legion pointed out to me that not all Geth are bad. I owe him, because in my suicide mission he succeeded in his infiltration mission and I hope to see him return in ME3.

As far as I know, Legion's personality is stored in a database somewhere else. The programs that make up Legion are connected to him by FTL communication. If he dies on the mission, the programs can just connect to a new platform.

Isn't Legion a 'Mobile Platform' that was specifically designed to go solo? That's why he has 1100+ programs instead of the standard ~100 a standard Geth has (but still manages to seem completely one-dimensional).

Yeah but he won't look the same

It's his armor and attitude that I like so much :bandit:

He seems one-dimensional because either the programs have reached a consensus, or they haven't. If they haven't, he'll just say they haven't.

I really love how Bioware went with Legion and the Geth.

Provided "he" survives the Suicide mission then I can't see "him" not being a squad member (or at least a very important liason type NPC) in ME3.

As I say, showing us that the Geth are really non-hostile and just want to eek out their own existence is awesome. Rather than just go down the "all AI is automatically hostile to organic life" route.

Actually, Legion is built to be self-contained so he is not constantly connected to the Geth network.  (If he does during the suicide mission, he tries to connect to back himself up and fails.)

There's no indication of how often the programs in Legion have been backed up.  It's possible (though I agree it would be unlikely) that they haven't backed up since Legion left Geth space 2 years earlier.

P.S. Anyway, I doubt there is a need to 'plead' for any of the ME2 characters to return. I'm presuming that they're all coming back and they'll be 'turned off' if they are marked as dead in a player's save file.

Ok, imagine this. You lost Legion in the suicide mission, or he is destroyed through some other means (technically Shepard never returns home from the Omega 4 Relay after the suicide mission - so anything could happen) and in ME3 they bring him back, only with an old backup. He doesn't remember the collector base, or as he would say: 'he has no data on it', and you have to fill him in.

Legion is one of the characters I think he can't just leave. It wouldn't make sense. Just like Garrus, Miranda and Jacob. He has to stay.

I know there are some people that think it should be reasonable for Legion to come back even if he dies during the suicide mission, but that to me makes a mockery of the whole 'If they dead they remain dead' thing.

You want Legion back in ME3, simple, activate him and make sure he survives the suicide mission.

That all being said, I got to admit I had it in my mind that my main Renegade FemShep wasn't going to touch him, too distrusting of Geth and all that, but when he first appeared, I got to thinking "Would she really not be intrigued?" she did still end up collecting the bounty for handing a Geth over to Cerberus but it certainly did have me pondering for a while. I have got other Shep's that have kept him though and I think he could play a part in the next game easily more so than other characters.

Legion is a great character, his comments are funny as hell.

I don't think Bioware is going to get rid of him, he still of stories to tell.
