Observation #1: In modern culture, a single earring in the right ear is an indicator of homosexuality.

Observation #2: Duncan possesses a single earring in his right ear.  His left ear appears unpierced.

Observation #3: I've not met any new recruits of Duncan's that are not male.

Please draw your own conclusions.

Sidenote: Being that ones introduction to Duncan happens so very early I did not think this needed to be maked as a spoiler.  If anyone thinks is should be marked as such please report it to a moderator.  I'd hate to ruin the game for anyone else.

DA:O may not take place in modern culture, but it's obviously heavily influenced by it, if the hairstyles are any judge.  I know it's not particularly relevant to the main plot, I just think it'd be kinda interesting if Duncan did indeed like the guys and it had no direct bearing on the plot.

I heartily enjoy the visibility of gay characters where being gay has absolutely nothing to do with the story.

#1 wrong, that is only a thing for adolecant boys that are unsure about themself and want to trash people. 2, they are not living in modern culture.

#2 So?

#3 play a female and you got a female recruit.

He recruited my character, obviously he likes the women more.

Really, he doesn't seem either, he's more about doing his duty by dying to the Darkspawn then actually getting some action, mainly because well, he's a major NPC character, they never care about sex, only about DOING THE DUTY THEY MUST DO.

Observation #4 You are the first person in the forums to worry on this.

Observation #5 Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Observation #6 Don't the Grey Wardens have a "Don't ask don't tell" policy?

I think you're probably right. I am somewhat glad to see this topic as I thought I was the only one to have noticed. I also noticed his right ear is pierced, generally a sign that someone well you know... bat's for the other team.

Granted I haven't worn earrings in maybe 15 years but my left ear is pierced twice and my right once.  Am I 1/3 gay?:o

I read somwhere that when someone is eager to point out that somebody might be homosexual, it's because they are hiding their own feelings of homosexuality. So come on OP it's ok come out of the closet we won't judge you honest.

More to the point, why is Duncan the only character I've seen with an earring? Oh, wait, I know... 'cos he's a custom character model. Are earrings not something seen in Fereldan culture, or is it just a 'limitation of the engine' thing - if it's the former, maybe wearing earrings is normal for men from wherever Duncan's from - I think in The Calling it said he grew up on the streets of an Orlesian city - maybe it's a street gang thing.

I think it's terribly funny how many people seem to think I'm attacking Duncan. I'm gay myself; it's quite nice to see some family in a position of power performing a duty that has absolutely nothing to do with their sexuality. I love that he's there, and I love his earring ^_^

I know he likes taking huges Axe to the face. Does that make him gay?

I haven't heard the earring thing since the nineties. In elementary school mind you.Are you aware this game is rated M? Do your parents know you play?

I think it's terribly funny that you think he is gay over an earing.  I think you are over reacting in your reaction to those who think you have a crap topic.

Not that I have anything against it, but that was my first impression. I havent seen much of this guy yet.

Observation #3: I've not met any new recruits of Duncan's that are not male.

So the Grey Wardens are in reality a group of male sex kittens that have the hots for each only pretending to be a darkspawn fighting force?

Well that significantly alters my interpretation of the plot.

Yeah, it almost makes you miss the real spoilers.
