Best weapon for Garrus/Zaeed?

Garrus and Zaeed can use assault and sniper rifles.  So, which one to use as the default?  Obviously, there's some situations like when you're hunkered down a ways away that snipers are the obvious choice.  Similarly, I switch them to assault when hordes of varren or whatnot are close at hand.

But what's the overall good choice?  I'm guessing the Viper is a generic, shoots fast enough for close work, deadly at long range.  But what about the Mantis (which seems to be Garrus' signature weapon)?  And the Vindicator is pretty darned good, too, even at long range.

Has anyone done an analysis?

The Incisor is the best for companions if you have it. Deadly accurate, massive damage regardless of difficulty and never overheating. As for assault rifle....I'd say that the Collector AR is best in the hands of those two.

Yep. The Incisor is cool because it's not the best weapon for Shepard, but it wreaks havoc in the hands of a squaddie.

Um, none of the weapons overheat.......right?

@Super: I'm of the mindset that if I have any squaddie with a sniper rifle, I'm gonna make them use that regardless of what their alternate gun may be. This is especially handy if you're a vanguard, CQC infiltrator, or a run-n-gun assault sentinel. Take two sniping squaddies and watch the bad guys drop as you charge in

In the hands of squad mates.....Never seen a squad mate's weapon overheat.

Incisor, if you're one of the lucky few, is best. Otherwise, I'd stick with the mantis.

Makes sense--  I'm playing a vanguard right now.  So for squaddies, you lot would go for the Mantis over the Viper?

I always opted for The Viper, (don't have Insisor until recently.) Garrus gets the Vindicator (I modded it so it actually shoots in 5 round bursts) and Zaeed gets an Avenger (to remind him of Jessie!)

Viper for squaddies, without a doubt. In fact, when I play as a vanguard, I always get sniper training so I can use the viper before charging in. It is incredibly effective against shields and barriers (two vanguard weaknesses). Here's a link with some useful info on weapon comparisons:

Thanks for the advice! Just ran through that Blue Sun scenario where you have to bunker down whilst the computer decrypts everything (um...why don't we just beam it to the ship and have EDI do it there while we sip margaritas? :P). That was a bit frantic for my vanguard before, because I'd have to time my charges to make sure it wasn't just as reinforcements showed up.

But Garrus and Zaeed just wiped everyone! I mean, we softened them up, Shep charges then there was this funny bit while I kept turning around looking for the next baddie to charge. But they were all dead :P

I was recently going through Insanity, and I happen to not have the Incisor.

I find Vindicator to be more reliable in their hands then the Collector Assault Rifle. I take the Mantis, that way they're not spending more time out of cover with a Viper.

However, it's up to you, the Collector AR and Viper Sniper are both good weapons too.

Agreed. The Viper is my single fave gun in the game. There's literally nothing it can't handle (provided they aren't 3 feet away). With Warp Ammo it's almost broken.
