Hi everyone!
So some of you know me and some of you don't, but I know all of you probably know there's no scars in dragon age. Well a while back I figured out how to make them, but then my computer died, blah blah blah, epic journey, blah blah blah, 6 months later and Finally I'm back.
So without further delay, I plan to run a couple of Ustream session showing you good people how to make DA scars.
When I get the link I'll keep you posted. If all goes well I was thinking Monday, Wed, and Friday next week.
See you there!\\

So are you going to teach us all how to paint textures with scars with any 2D graphic software?

I'm going to start with Photoshop, and then probably show GIMP as well.
If people have others they would like to be shown, I'd love to try them out.
Basically I'll be teaching how to make scars like this http://s221.photobuc..._2.jpg&newest=1 and then how to get them in game.

I'm unfamiliar with ustream... is it possible to watch the video AFTER the streaming session? does it save it anywhere? if not, can i suggest you screen record it as well and up to youtube or similar? think this might be a nice tutorial for others to benefit from any day of the week
Also, can I request that you show how to use it in the texture blend manner in the toolset - don't know if that's what you had in mind already, but it'd be good to show that rather than simply replacing the base texture, one can use any face texture and slap on, for example, the eye section of a scarred face texture. scars seemed to me to be an obvious omission in the core textures, and having ones we can throw blend sections of at any face texture would be ace
thanks - this is a great tutorial idea

Ah have no fear, Ustream has the option of recording the session while it plays, and then it uploads once the session has finished. You also don't need a login to watch the video, however the people who login during the live session have access to a chat window and can ask questions and discuss the tutorial as it's going.
As for the using it in the Texture blend part of the toolset morph area, that is in fact how I do it. I place the scar texture (and normal) in the override folder with a unique name and it adds it to the head texture list. This allows me to control the amount the scar is present and blend it with other scars/face textures for a unique look.
I strongly encourage anyone who's interested to drop by. Also spread the word, tutorial isn't any good if no one sees it.
Going to add this link to my siggy, right now http://www.ustream.t...l/dao-tutorials

Thanks!
What time is it for you in Europe? Cause I can Schedule a separate tutorial for the European time zones. Something like Saturday at 12 Noon?

So I haven't been able to follow through the whole tutorial due to real life constraints but it's very educational and I encourage all of those who, like me, are beginners at texturing for dao to check it out when it's available.

oh dont do one on my behalf! but yes, 12 noon GMT-8 works out around 7pm-10pm across europe. Can I suggest you mention this to the dragonagepodcast guys? letters@dragonagepodcast.com or group: http://social.bioware.com/group/1521
One listener requested they feature a tutorial each show - I fear you may be too late before this week's friday release, but hopefully they can mention it on the following show (its every two weeks)?

Hi Mike Mike,
The video I have up now was just a demo of some work I did, there's no sound, other than the beginning. I took down my scar tutorial simply due to lack of interest. If enough people want to see it I'll put it up again.
This next week I'm doing tattoos, and those video will be up permanently.
Cheers,
Dr.DJ

I'd really like to see the scar tutorial. Did you really only leave it up for less than a week? Sometimes things move a little slower than that in the mod community, I think, with everyone working away at their own stuff. If you leave it up for a while you may see increasing interest over time, as people link to you.
I for one am definitely interested, both in making the actual scars and in the more general discussion of texture formats and techniques!

Don't worry it'll be back up eventually. I have lots of other stuff to share and teach, but for now scars are going back on the shelf.
