Such short-sightedness is pretty unbecoming of a Grey Warden. I'm glad he lets me make all of the important decisions.

Also, it makes more sense to me (from a political standpoint, at least) to harden Alistair, marry him to Anora, and spare Loghain. I would also go one further and say it's best to turn down Morrigan's ritual (for obvious reasons) and let Loghain sacrifice himself to slay the Archdemon - that restores his honor and his place as a hero of the people, even though it means his death.

I am still torn about this, given the options. I wouldn't kill him right there. His death accomplishes nothing at that point, he has surrendered and is still seen as a hero by many. I wouldn't make him a Warden either though. The whole issue gives me headaches.
Anyway, I wonder what the Landsmeet would have made of him if I had left the choice to them. Executed, probably.

As a supporter of Anora, I would not execute Loghain. But I wouldn't have him join the order either, at that point you don't know their importance in slaying the archdemon. I doubt Alistair would have left the party had the Warden spared Loghain without conscripting him. And Loghain would be more useful outside the battlefield, planning the defense against the darkspawn.

I really think Riordan brought up making Loghain a Warden to avoid the Warden and Alistair killing each other. They're both pretty hostile to each other other and armed, so it really was the best way to avoid another fight.

Alistair seemed more pissed off about Loghain being made a Warden than being simply spared though. I wonder what would have happened.

Actually, if you harden Alistair, and marry him off to Anora, he becomes King, and Loghain becomes a Warden. The Xand wrote...
I had to let Loghain be killed because I was trying to go for a canon ending and Alistair just got so pissy if you let Loghain live that there was no way I could get Alistair to be king and to let Loghain live. But hey, on the plus side I got to bone Morrigan and get her preggers with my dragon seed.
Alistair still hates you, though.

He's less angry about it if you give Loghain the Redeemer ending. I believe the anger is tied to Loghain being alive-he calms down once Loghain is dead.
