The mages of the Circle are also divided into several fraternities, the equivalent of political parties, which hold diverse views of how mages should act and their place in society. The prominent fraternities are featured below.

The Loyalists: Loyalists seek to strengthen the ties between mages and the Chantry and seek a closer 'cooperation' between the two. They often come into conflict with the Libertarians on this matter.

The Libertarians: Libertarians seek to aquire more independence for the Circle by weakening the control that the Chantry currently has on Magic; some Libertarians even wish to break away completly from the Chantry's supervision. They often come into conflict with the Loyalists on this matter.

The Aequitarians: Aequitarians seek not to go to extremes in any matter concerning magic. Although there is some disagreement among them of where the perfect 'balance' lies, all aequitarians are pragmatists at heart, and are often called to broker compromise between the Libertarians and the Loyalists.

The Lucrosians: Lucrosians think that every affair of mages should be aimed at acquiring wealth and power by any means necessary.

The Isolationists: Isolationists are of the opinion that mages are not fit to live a 'normal' life, with other mages or among ordinary people. Instead, they should seek to live alone as hermits out in the wilds, far from civilization, where they can cause no harm to other people.

I'm probably Aequetarian leaning towards Libertarian, but my main character is a Templar :P

Aequitarian or Isolationist. Isolationist not so much because I don't want to harm people more because I don't want people to mess with me.

Isolationist doesn't seem to be that bad, except there's really no guarantee that they're going to stay that way.

Whichever one offers the longest lie-in in the morning. And cheesy biscuits.

Failing any consensus on late mornings and savoury nibbles, Aequitarians, probably.

I'm a Libertarian, with the opinion that mages need to police themselves... except in practice they are pretty bad at it. I leave the tower for like a week and come back to find half of the tower are crazy blood mages now. How did the good mages not notice? There aren't any out of the way places for them to practice (with 2 exceptions that are very hard to get into).

Well put.

I guess I'd be an Aequitarian at heart, but a distaste for chantry oppression demands I join the Libertarians.

I'd probably be more of an Aequetarian. My first mage was leaning towards libertarian for a while, but the Mage's Tower quest quickly changed that view. The Templars may be cruel, but without them, Ferelden would have far more to worry about than just darkspawn. Imprisoning the mages in the tower is unfortunate, but it's a necessary evil to protect the world from demons and maleficar.

Alright, I think I should elaborate my previous comment a bit. During my first, mage playthrough, I thought the fraternities actually implemented their ideas but it was not so. They are just mages, staying in circles, who voice their thoughts and struggle for changes.

If I am a circle mage, then I wouldn't be in any of the fraternities(meaning, I won't be political), as I would just be demanding something for my entire life and still be under the thumb of the chantry. I mean, Uldred himself was a Libertarian(probably for years) and there was no change. So if he wasn't able to change the minds of those in command, why would the Isolationists even have a chance. Of course, all the other fraternities would just be ignored as they don't seem to be fighting for a stronger cause(if at all).

I for one, prefer to be a Maleficar, not the type who works with dark magic and forces people to his will, but the one who has the knowledge of dark magic(blood magic included) and will try his best to hide his magical talent and lead a free life. This is the only reason I have started a Human Noble Mage playthrough without having to deal with Greedgor.

Dalish Keeper.

Velanna is about as whacked out as they get. They don't seem to do the whole "Let's bargain with demons" thing that Circle mages do.

Velanna's a classic example of an only child.

Erm... I'll post part II when I think of what possible relevance my comment might have to this thread.  I may be some time. :?

I'll be different and say Lucrosians. That way we can just bribe the Grand Cleric to set the mages free. :P

Aequitarian with sympathies towards the Libertarians.  I agree that mages need to be monitored, but I think the methods that the Chantry uses are unfair.  Ultimately, I'd like to see the Circle of Magi police itself, but I wouldn't be willing to take part in a violent revolution to see that goal realized.

It is hard to say which fraternity I would belong to as really none of them suit me :). If I had to choose one though I guess I would go the Libertarian because I would want to free myself from the Chantry rule. I am a bit of a rebel at heart. :P

Assuming I'm not already a apostate/maleficar, certainly libertarian.

revision to my post: If "given the choice", Dalish Keeper / First. If forced into the circle, then Libertarian.

None.

The Libertarians and the Loyalist are going to get us all killed.
The Aequitarians can't make up their minds and I have no desire to play "peacekeeper".
The Lucrosians are greedy. I can admire that but want no part in it.
And the Isolationists really can't think things through. Living on an island somewhere would just result in being hunted down and killed by a pack of idiots (villagers) who blame me for *insert stupid problem here*.
