Yesterday I purchased the Hungarian version of Mass Effect 2, but I would prefer the English version.
Is it possible to download an English language pack and modify the already installed game?
If this is not the case, do I need to purchase an English version? If so where can I buy a downloadable version?
Will I need to restart the game or my save files are not dependent on the locale?
Is it possible to switch to English locale?

Try the easiest way first ;-)
http://filenetworks....s-effect-2.html
1. Browse to your Mass Effect 2 installation directory and look in the ‘data’ folder.
2. Open sku.ini file with a text editor such as Notepad. Make a backup of this file before you alter it – this way you can revert to original if anything goes wrong.
3. Edit the [SKU] section of the file so that it looks like the text below:
[SKU]
SKU=
VOLanguage=INT
TextLanguage=INT
4. Save and close the configuration editor.
If that didn't work (like when you see strange number codes instead of text labels in the main menu), I can find out the error-proof way I did it a few month ago (German -> English text and audio), which I have forgotten right now ;-)

If the tip from Bravenu3 doesn't work do the following:
1. Uninstall ME2.
2. Insert the DVD and look at little flags in the launcher.
3. Select the Canadian looking one and proceed with your install.

Thank you both for the tips, unfortunately -- just as I have expected -- the English subtitles and text data are simply not part of the East European edition they sell around here.
When I changed the TextLanguage to INT, instead of English texts I got only numeric identifiers and the menu labels were completely empty -- as Bravenu3 has predicted. I would really appreciate if you could kindly find and show me the other solution you have mentioned.
The problem is that I guess the translators must have received a huge mass of sentences and text fragments and without seeing them in context they could only have guessed how to translate some of them, and of course they have failed to pick the right solution here and there which rather makes it hard to understand what's going on when the in-game communication choices appear.
The game is superb, but I really wish I would have checked the language support when I bought it.

Did the game come with an extra disk?
If so, when you install and select a langauge (english), it should ask for the second disk. (Don't own ME2 so not certain but some dao's in europe come like that I've heard.)

Yes, there are 2 dvds in the box, but how would it fix my problem?

I guess he means the second disk contains additional languages and is requested if you choose a different language during installation?

I was never asked to choose languages except for the installer where I was offered the following three choices: Czech, Polish, Hungarian.

Ez nekem is gond volt
Download: www.frogup.com/plik/pokaz/me2_angielskie_napisy/20719 (Click "Pobierz" to download)
Copy the files to Mass Effect 2 -> BioGame -> CookedPC
Open SKU file located in Mass Effect 2 -> Data
Chang both values from HUN to INT

Actually there is much more simpler way, since hungarian translation sucks, it was my first thing to find a solution for this. Download EA download manager ea-download-manager.software.informer.com/ and install it. Launch the app, and there is an option to activate your retail copy of many EA games. Simply type in your serial number and then select ME2 hungarian, englis etc. version. This is a fully working digital "backup" version you can use if your disc is damaged. And yes this version have english as well as hungarian language support, and does not require the game disc at all.

Happy to help, it's good to see more and more hungarian ME players
BTW "Baka" is and old term for knight / soldier:
szinonimaszotar.hu/keres/baka
But yeah, they really shouldn't translate names.

} Ja és nekem a Collector Edition van meg. {
Köszönöm a segitségetek.

Just installed ME2 and saw that because I have a Hungarian IP the game is defaultly installed in hungarian language (The thing is that both ME1 and ME2 is translated differently... Lot of names are different in the two games, which is a pretty stupid decision from the translaters). Because the hungarian translation is pretty bad, I have quickly got rid of it with Bravenu3's fix... Thank you Bro!
So BADam3 I suggest to you the same method of correction (got the Origin version installed this way too!)

future reference, you can always add the CD key to the origin installer and select your language as it will download most languages and allow you to install DLC for it. I greatly dislike origin, however.
