The only great science fiction movie I can think of is Aliens.
Every other sci-fi movie including that snoozefest from Stanley Kubrick, 2001 blows.

Seriously though there aren't even 10 good science fiction movies in existance to make a list. The only kinda good but not great science fiction movies I can name from the top of my head would be Blade Runner, Alien, District 9, and maybe the original Matrix.

Good Science Fiction is when the gap between science and fiction isnt a whole universe of nonsense

I don't think this is necessarily essential for a good sci-fi movie. 2001 is certainly a more realistic sci-fi movie than say Aliens but Aliens is a far better movie on the merit that Aliens doesn't spend 90 percent of it's running time showing crap floating in space that doesn't relate in any way whatsoever to the plot.

1. Aliens (kind of sci/fi-horror but I'm going to count it)
2. Gattaca
3. Children of Men
4. Terminator 2 (as much as I love the first one I think T2 is the best of the series)
5. Empire Strikes Back
6. Blade Runner
7. 12 Monkeys
8. The Iron Giant
9. War of the Worlds (1953)
10. The Matrix (it doesn't hold up as well for me as it used to but I think it's still in my top ten)

Sorry, no way I could restrict myself to just 10 movies.
That said, the best SF movie, that I watch once a year (or more) for now ever two decades, is Aliens.

I thought the scene in which the Marines get ambushed in the nest was pretty scary.Darht Jayder wrote...
