I got DA:O for Christmas.  Granted, I haven't played it constantly (I have other games, and a job and kids and stuff like that that interferes :) )  But I've played quite a bit; my elven mage has rescued the Dalish Elves from the werewolf threat, and we just liberated the Circle of Mages.

And here, as promised, is how damn stupid I am:

Friday night, I was piloting Wynne as the others were beating on some monstrosity or other.  I picked Heal as her spell, as she was taking a bit more damage than strictly necessary.  I accidentally bumped the left stick (this is on PS3, which I know will be all the evidence many of you need for how damn stupid I am, but anyway).

The little arrow with "Heal" on it bumped up to Shale's picture.

Actual quote:  Aw, son of a ****.  So THAT's how you heal other people!

I had been targeting other party members like with an attack spell, and wondering why the hell it didn't seem to work right.

You may now commence ridiculing me.  I deserve every word.  Posted Image

Hey don't feel bad, it took me a while to get used to the controls and that wheel with all the useable items. First playthrough it took me a while to realize there were mutiples levels, lol. On the bright side you can now heal your companions :)

Is it possible to have one PS3 thread on this forum without some dip**** PC owner coming in here saying how lame the PS3 is? Seriously, are PC owners insecure or something? Do they not realize 99% of PS3 owners also have a PC and perhaps actually prefer to play on the PS3 for one reason or another?

The whole UI is...poorly documented, on PC too.

There was another thread not long ago, basically WTF/ROFL items, in which *many* people had issues with basic parts of the UI...such as "how do I get to camp after I leave it the first time?"

Sounds like a lot of people own DA on pc and ps3, why is that? Are you buying the ps3 version and then finding you'd rather play it with a keyboard and mouse?

Yea, someone mentions they play on the PS3, and you have to run in to post how lame it is, and I'm the one acting like a little boy? Really? Are you serious? Or just not very bright?

Don't feel too badly. It took me an abysmally long time to realize that I could go back to the party camp after the initial scene following Lothering

Same for XBox 360.  I actually like playing the game on my console more because it seems more immediate.  But I have both and have played both.

Have to put my hand up to lol, On PS3 forgot I had the heal spell assigned to the triangle button must of clicked it by accident thought the game had froze but it was just waiting for me to select a character to heal, after bit of swearing I saw the X next my character and felt just a bit stupid lol

I couldn't figure out why everyone kept saying cone of cold was so great with my first mage until I realized that the X-box was putting the area of effect triangle behind me where I couldn't see it. I would hit okay. Nothing would happen...over, and over...and then I accidentally bumped the thumbstick and saw the marker on the ground. Oh, and I also didn't even realize there was a camp I could return to at will. I thought the game was just going to dump me there periodically until I accidentally scrolled over to it. So don't feel bad. You were definitely not the only one.

My first time through the game I never knew how to use lyrium potions, I didn't know how to really use the item wheel. I also only used 6 abilities (the hot key ones on 360) and i thought that if I had those abilities on the other characters they would use them. Therefore I didn't use tactics either.

Same thing with cone of cold on Xbox 360.  And my first playthrough, I couldn't figure how to get out of Denerim, because I didn't realize I could move the map out from the city to the countryside......Do you know how many times you can die in the back alleys when your gear is lame and your level is low?? It's like a relm of hell, eternal suffering.

Oh oh oh are we going on about dumb things we did? I didn't realize there was a second map in Denerim for the longest time. I also didn't realize you could move using the map, and walked everywhere for my first playthrough.

I don't have much experience with this type of combat system so I'm still learning new tricks and actual things to do on my 3rd play through.

it takes a long time to master, but then you'll never forget... and you'll be ready for Dragon Age: Over the Mountains!

How I see it:

Dragon Age (Computer game) = PC style RPG with real time strategy game mechanics

Dragon Age (Video game) = PC style RPG with real time strategy gameplay, posing as a third person action adventure.

For Dragon Age 2 I hope they make it a straight up console action RPG. The combat in Origins is definitely my least favorite thing about the game. Look at the direction Lionhead is going with the Fable series. That's how swordy RPGs should be played. If Bioware could replicate that style of gameplay in Dragon Age, it would make for a way better game.
