Which of Shales four talent trees do you tend use and why?
(Don't forget this is the NO SPOILER forum - so I'm not looking for specific battle info - just general choices you make and how you implement them)

I like the ranged talents for the start of a fight. Cooldown's too long to use them more than once.
I don't generally like to use melee offense mode too much unless there's only one active opponent. There are two talents that automatically crit, which is useful if you're going for shatters. Obviously less important post-patch.

Mostly Stoneheart. I like shale as a tank rather than a primary damage dealer.

Do you set these behaviors in tactics or micromanage them?

If laughs are your quarry, I can't think of a boulder joke than that. A real gem! Yes you're funny, so don't let anyone slag you over it, but just don't get vein about it, OK?

Win!
As for the OP; I haven't really. I intend to do so for an upcoming Dwarf run.
Overall I am just more comfortable with Alistair being my tank but we'll see.

Personally, I set Stoneheart in Tactics, then use any other set only when I have Shale possessed.
Same here. Any situation where I'd want Shale out of Stoneheart is also a situation where I'd want to be taking direct control.

When used as a tank, I think the green natural crystals are probably the best.

I have Stoneheart set in tactics as the main mode because its the best tanking mode for Shale and also draws a lot of threat. I activate stone aura in very specific situations, mainly when almost all the party is using ranged magic attacks. Rock mastery is useful if you like using archery a lot. I have never used the melee mode however.

Playing on hard we had one reload with bounty hunters and one with Jarvia altho Shale had to finish off the last proving alone...We are about to head into the Deep Roads it will be interesting to see how we fare (never been here this early in the game).

Also, if you have a mage in the party keep in mind Shale does elemental damage - and will benefit from an Affliction Hex/Vulnerability Hex. An Affliction Hex cast from a high spell power mage can double Shales damage.

No I actually posted it in the General Discussion NO Spoilers forum - I did so specifically becuase I did not want to see any spoilers about how to use Shale for specific battles or to get any other spoiler type info about Shale in the discussion.
In spite of my OP stating exactly that - explaining why it was posted in no spoilers forum some moderator obviously found him/herself with to little to do and decided to move it to the spoiler section - who knows why -
as far as I can see there have been no spoilers posted here and I found it irritating to spend about 20 minutes looking for the thread in the forum I originally posted it in the other day - finally having to load my profile to find where it had been moved to.
I have major areas of the game I have not explored yet so I'll probably just abandon the thread rather than continue to enter the spoilers forum to follow up with it and take a chance on seeing stuff I don't want to...
