Well if you haven't tried them out, you should check out http://www.agdinteractive.com/ . They've remade a few of the cga/ega Sierra titles with VGA graphics. Their KQ1 is a nice faithful representation of the original, but their KQ2 is really rather excellent. They developed a more complex story to support the game using the original structure but adding a ton of content. A lot of fun. I actually haven't tried their QFG2 remake yet, haven't had the time, but I imagine its pretty good as well given what a nice job they've done so far.
As for classic style adventure games, the AAA market for these games is pretty non-existent. I have hoping for Heavy Rain's* success though, hoping it will inspire more game companies to try something in that direction. I was originally hopeful Alan Wake would be more in the Adventure game vein, but that has apparently turned out to be false hope.
* Full disclosure - I haven't played Heavy Rain nor do I intend to, the subject matter is a little too dark for my tastes, but I do hope the concept and gameplay design do well.
