Hello,

at the beginning, I experienced massive framerate drops and "lags" during longer conversations.
After reading some threads in different languages and testing some by myself I came up with this solution, which fixed it all for me so i can enjoy DAO as the great game that it isPosted Image

This is how it goes:

"Lags" during coversations:
Disable everything under Options -> Online. I dont know which option it is specifically because i didnt test it one by one. But it works.

Massive framerate drops:
1. Download a program like "CPU-Control".
2. Download a program like "O&O Clever Cache".
3. Set O&O Clever Cache to optimize the memory for programs.
4. Start both programs, followed by DAO
5. Set the process of DAO to a "higher than normal" priority via the task manager.
6. Set the process of DAO to use ALL of your cpus via the task manager or CPU-Control

Takes 1-2 minutes at each start of DAO but it's worth it.

Hope I could help someone else.

*bump*

It would be nice if someone could try this out at home to see if it not just works for me.

sounds like a lot of work, when you can just shut the game off anf restart it...which takes less than a minute.

Tried it out now. Getting no performance boost at all on my Rig. I dont had any problems though, so i guess its a possible workaround for bad configurated pc's.

The only thing you have to do after installing is to set the process to "higher than normal" and to use all of your cpus. Takes under 1 minute if you did it before and know how to and you can play for hours without a restart :)

SethisKai

These things are not supposed to boost your performance but to keep your framerate at a constant level. I would not call my pc bad configurated regarding the sheer amount of people with the same problems

No offense, but i do. These tools are not needed on a good config'd system and wont make any difference at all in any game. Other than that, the Memleak cannot be adressed with this, so the game will keep slowing down anyway.
I can normally play for 3-5h without any issue or drop in FPS at all, without any program to keep my RAM/CPU correctly adressed. Prolly longer, if i could find the time for it *sighs*

*addition*
I do hope though, that this little workaround can solve the problem of some ppl.

Right cause the game is supposed to stutter and crap on a computer that is over all of DAO's recommended stats. I'm totally running on a bad system. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the drivers not jiving, or something wrong with the coding. It's always the system, amirite?

He's not talking about the stupid memory leak. He's talking about the skipping audio/video and FPS drops during conversations. They start up the instant you hit play, not after playing for a while.

For AMD I use fusion but the quickest way still is save your progress, quit, then relaunch the game.

I'd end up restarting every 5 min! Literally.

I was playing along in the game fine, no framerate drop at all until recently. I am now level 14 and for the first 13 levels everything ran smooth as silk at 1680x1050 with all settings on highest, AA set at 2x. Lately though, it will play smooth and fine and all of a sudden framerates drop to 3 or less. after a few minutes, the game is normal again. This happens constantly now and completely randomly. Doesnt matter if it is conversation, walking around, battles, etc. It can just basically slow down to unplayable then back to normal FPS for another few minutes or longer, then slow down again. Very annoying.

I am running Athalon X2 5600+ (Dual core 2.7 ghz) ATI Radeon 3870 512MB DDR3, OCZ Vista Gold ediition 4GB PC6400 800MHZ ram, Vista Ultimate 64bit, even run AMDs dual core optimizer which has never caused me issues.

O&O works like a charm.  It dropped my lag problems by at least 75%.  I need to play with CPU-Control more.  As for now, it only seems to interfere with O&O and/or vice versa. Posted Image

Bump, Hi guys, i have this same problem, i played about 30h of this game without issues, and now suddently it just drops my framerates to below 10 which makes it unplayable for about a minute, then it goes to usuall framerates and randomly again in about 10 minutes max, again. Any solution? This seems a general problem, anyone else have/had this?:(

Without any details about your computer (Windows version, CPU, RAM, Graphic card and drivers, Audio card and drivers), it will be very difficult to anyone to try to help you.

I have been having a massive framerate drop. I have logged over 100 hours in this game on default graphics and it ran but recently the framerate has dropped to levels where the game is unplayable.

I use Windows 7, ASUS G71GX computer with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260m and Intel Core Duo CPU 2.53 GHz

Have you done anything recently, like installed a mod? And when exactly did it start "laggin" ingame?

not sure exactly when it started lagging but I haven't installed any mod at all.
