At considerable risk of being flammed to a crisp, I pose this question:

Would anyone anyone have paying interest in a Remake of Mass Effect One to update it to the ME 2 gameplay mechanics? Before you grab for the flamethrower, please understand that by suggesting this I am not trying to denigrate the quality or style of ME 1... however, I feel that ME 2+ME 3 being built on the same principles and engine provides a unique opportunity to revist ME 1 and synchronize it with the other two.

The cost would be pretty low since 100% of neccisary VA work is already done and 90%+ of the dialogue sequences can essentially be used as-is. I feel that an unchanging gameplay mechanic is the only way to make epic, 3-game playthoughs truly "feel" right. The pacing and style of ME 1 doesn't IMO blend well with the same in ME 2/3.

Whether you favor one or the other style, to me it feels clunky to adapt back and forth. A remake edition would also allow for minor touch-ups to the game in graphic tech etc (remember the texture pop-in on the cutscenes.) The elevators and point-and-click galaxy map are fine left alone. Such a remake as I am proposing would focus on synchronising the feel of COMBAT across all three games and streamlining out the more cumbersome ME 1 mechanics.

The only thing I can see that would be troublesome would be the MAKO random worlds. These would have to be replaced with from-scratch ME 2-styled sidequests. Otherwise MAKO sequences in the missions can be cutscened etc. However ME 2 style sidequests don't seem TOO expensive to make, and they could even forgo unique dialogue for them in favor of the stock ME 1 text-bubble sidequest backstory presentation.

I, for one, would definately offer loving support (and my purchasing power) to a tasteful ME 1 remake. Revisiting the original game story with a the modern game mechanics wouldn't be very expensive and would make for  very smooth and satisfying 200 hour trilogy playthough experiences.

The question is, how many of YOU would support it? If enough of you do I could actually see it happening. Voice your support or fire the flamethrowers! ;)

I don't care much about fixing the combat in Mass Effect 1, I just want them to use the same engine... I mean, I have to play ME1 with low textures or my computer will freeze, yet the SAME computer can run ME2 and its awesome textures with no problem at all. And sound. For some weird reasons sounds and music randomly stopped working in ME1 while they work very well in ME2.

ME1 was just bit badly optimized, and probaply too messily designed to be even optimized anyway. Remember Biowares inability to fix Garrus's face, they couldnt do it without rewriting a ton of data making the patch huge.

But yes, I would be interested in ME1 remake to make it more in line with ME2 and most likely ME3. BUT I wouldnt want to see RPG elements go, I think they were nice as they were in ME1.

Me - no. If it's something like The Witcher:EE, free to those who bought Mass Effect, and full price for new copies, by all means. It's a great idea. To buy a game twice only for higher resolution textures and engine optimization (the first certainly exist in the dev kits, while the second can be patched), no.

Mass Effect 2 gameplay mechanics is a different thing altogether, but I still think no. It's not enough for me to warrant a new copy of game that's already great.

I could make an exception if it's released stand-alone (as I imagine EA/Microsoft would force us to buy a three-game package with this), doesn't costs as much as a brand new title and I can resell the original for a good price.

Graphic optimalization - YES.

Tweaking whit Gameplay - BIG NO GO!

ME 1 will be very possible last Bioware legacy in field of SF - RPG games and she should remain as she was in details.

I probably would. As much as I loved ME1, it could have been much better in many ways.

And on a side note, OP, this should go in the ME General Discussion section. Just saying. :)

Sorta... Some of the things about ME1 just doesn't make sense, mainly you're a kick ass N7 operative, yet you aren't proficient for weapons? o.0

I think that honestly the gameplay for Me2 is a lot superior than ME1, but maybe the storyline was more coherent for the original.

ME 1 - Story > Combat.

ME 2 - COMBAT > story.

I think that's explain everything.

Definitely.

It'd be nice to play ME1 and not go into a coma when it comes time to start shooting things.

Not right now. I'd rather wait until the next generation of consoles for a remake, so they can improve everything - the gameplay will have matured further, and they can tweak anything they get wrong with ME3. Also, improved graphics would be nice, yeah?

True. Remake on the very same console the original was is a waste of potential. On next-gen however it could be a mindblowing experience.

PC however doesnt need to wait though, we are still lightyears ahead of consoles in raw power and graphics capability.

And yet we get treated to the same results as the console game :pinched:
