ME 1 - Story > Combat.
ME 2 - COMBAT > story.

I think that's explain everything.

Now if ME3 can combine the two...

Yes I would support this.

But I agree that the best time would be after ME3, to better integrate the three games and perhaps release as one item.

I thought the very same thing. I just started from scratch with an awesome new character idea and went to play ME1, it was horrible, the combat was extremely boring and easy. Both the tactical and action-based aspects were horrible. The story was a drag too, but that's only because I've played that darn game SO many times :P

Yes, the combat in ME2 is extremely tight, exciting and awesome and it's a drag to go back to ME1, but I would still prefer it if they concentrated on making ME3 the most epic game ever.

if at the end of ME3 they would remake ME1 and 2 made with ME3's engine and mechanics I'd TOTALLY buy it just to do REALLY long NG+ sessions through ME1 to ME3

I would buy a ME1 remake. After completing ME2 a few times I tried to go back and play ME1 but I just cant get past Eden Prime without ejecting the disk and popping ME2 back in. The combat in ME2 is so much better that I cannot look at ME1 the same again.

i wonder how many people who posted in this thread will be making the same comments about remaking thr mass effect series in 20 years time while a bunch of teenagers go "whats mass effect?"

its an interesting idea, but frankly far too soon. maybe a trilogy remake eventually but then again im still waiting for the remakes of the system shock games not to mention the crusader no remorse/no regret games..

oh my what a thought.. crusader no remorse with the mass effect 2 engine, physics and destructable envirnonment and community groups lining up around the block to protest the violence :)

i wish bioware didnt want to show off their combat so much in ME2. the combat in ME2 is actually one of my favorite third person shooters. hopefully in ME3 they get over themselves and make another great game ala ME1.

Even though the characters were well fleshed out, it felt like form followed function here where form is RP and story and function was the 'shooter' aspect.  BAD IDEA!!!

The game, from MOST PEOPLES' perspectives, is a RP story-centric game FIRST...shooter second.

Come on, Bioware.  Get with it.  Make ME3 more like ME1.

The story, yes, is better in ME 1, but that is to be expected. ME 1 was laying the foundation. ME 2 was just a slight continuation, the odd "middle" game.

ME3 will have the epic story we all want.

I'm waiting for the Dungeon Keeper 3 that will never come to pass. It had a trailer in the second game but Bullfrog kind of died so it's hopeless. I would support System Shock upgrades if only because I have issues running the originals. It took a week, an official DOS disc, a Win95 compatible exe obtained via the internet and a specialized tool (because it can't just use a txt file!)  to correct the CD directories to get Carmageddon to run in hires with sound. Compatibility issues are a wonderful thing.

I just like the largely optional meandering in ME. Almost everything in ME2 is mandatory so it bled some of the fun out of it for me. It has some superior set pieces but I like landing on some God forsaken freezing planet to loot probes and punt space pirates a few hundred yards. Even after the trilogy is over a remake is doubtful. Still, it's a big universe and there will likely be new stories to tell, they just won't involve Shepard.

If they also made a ps3 version then hell yeah, remake it. Otherwise I wouldn't play it enough to want to buy another version of a game I already have. Unless they could do it in the form of an update or something. That would be neat.

Would rather have KotOR1 remade to ME2 standard.

Hells yea?

That would be the coolest thing ever.

This seems to be such a universally accepted theory, that middle parts are just bad by their very nature, that I think I am going to start trying this out at work and see how it goes.

"Sure the new enhancements don't work and break the existing live performance, but just think of it as the middle chapter in the lifecycle of the application.  Just wait till v3.0 and everything will be great!!!"

Wonder how long I'll still be getting paychecks after that?

They'd have to redesign the entire level structure of ME 1 in order to accomodate ME 2's gameplay. Virmire and the Citadel would still be in tact, and as the best levels that is a good thing but Noveria would have to be completely redone and Feros would need to be tweaked a hell of a lot.

I would love a remade version of ME1. I cant get into it anymore after ME2...The combat feels too clunky, and I've played it about 20 x these last 2 years.

I have no problem with the story, it was more focused the second time around.  Of course I also don't believe that the story is about the Reapers but whatever.

I'd prefer new games over remakes. A remake ruins an older title's uniqueness imo. But yeh, I'd probably buy it.

Pretty much just a revamped combat system? No. ME1's combat doesn't and didn't need "fixing".

ME 1 was a chore to play because of its combat problems, it wasn't until the end of hte game where it got good, luckily you were properly leveled by that point as well.  ME 2 just seems to take into account full accuracy in regards to ME 1.  I don't see the disconnect.

Can I buy a ME2 remake instead, with more exploration and extended, tasteful love scenes?

Yes. I just wasn't a fan of the combat, which I found basically amounted to strafing back and forth constantly. In fact, the one reason I'm not playing through the whole thing again right now is because I found the battle with Saren/Sovereign to be the most annoying boss battle in the history of boss battles, and I just don't want to have to go through that again.

Actually this argument reminds me of "some people like to take advantage of an option even if it was not as good as something else just because it was different"

Like Raiders of the Lost Ark, some would prefer to be the swordsman while I'll always prefer to be Indiana Jones unless they can bring the whip up to snuff with the pistol.

People and their "new is better" mentality. I would bet the OP will make this same thread after ME3.

"Would you buy a remake of ME1 and ME2 to be more like ME3?"

The problem with ME2's story is that instead of being the second act of a trilogy, it tried to go for a stand-alone The Canterbury Tales type story.  Not that I dislike The Canterbury Tales, I just don't think that's how the second act of a trilogy should unfold.  ME2 did expand our knowledge of many things in the MEU, but it didn't do a good job of continuing the trilogy's story.  I'm not opposed to a made-up universe's lore getting expanded heavily upon, I just believe it should happen outside the trilogy story arc and in alternate media like comics or novels.  Star Wars did this well.
