Now before we get all hung up on ourselves...This isnt a "PC is better than console" or visa versa.  I was just watching AotS on G4 (Attack of the Show) and apparently in the U.S. this year, gamers have spent more on console gaming (15 million) and games.  As opposed to PC games (4 million).

Again, not saying PC gaming doesnt have it's upside (because it does) just stating what I've just found in terms of "popularity" this year.

Not really surprised. Consoles are cheaper in the long run. Don't require continual upgrades.

Graphics and other things obviously not as good but for most...it's about cost.

It's about comfort for me! I'd rather lay on the couch & play ps3 than be on the computer. I don't like trying to play games on a laptop either.

Kind of what I was assuming it is really. Seem more "convienient" (spelling?) lol

we just recently purchased a PS3 so that we can play Final Fantasy XIV when it releases in December.  So now we have both consoles in the house lol

@Norskatt: yeah...comfort too. Laptops are horrible to play games on.

I find holding controllers much more natural then using a keyboard... Using computer controlls just seems to keep me from really getting into some computer games.

@randumb: me too. Especially ones that require a gun. It seems so wierd to click a mouse when shooting. I like the trigger feel.

Also, I have a son that's 7, he likes playing video games too but I don't want him on my computer & possible deleting files & screwing up my hard drive. He can't do that on the PS3

Kind of the same thing with me...Im not exactly what I like to call "computer literate".....I mean...I know how to do some minor modding in games like Morrowind and Fable: TLC.  But beyond that, my computer savy really isnt too extensive lol

Why do so many people have uncomfortable PC chairs?

I agree with all the above and want to add, playing in the comfort of my living room in front of a 46" TV vs an uncomfy chair in front of a 20" computer screen... yeah. Console for me!

was that including online sales, or the old archaic method of counting store sales alone?

To be fair there has only been a handful of games worthy of interest for the PC (ME2, DA:A, BFBC2, MW2, and I guess even SC:Conviction, I can't think of anything else worth buying...oh yeah Assassins Creed 2, but then the last two have that DRM kerfufel), compared to the dozens of console platform exclusives and other random games that are on the market, and no DRM/anti-piracy restrictions apart from the 360 live account monitoring.

They can be comfortable...but only for so long I find.  I am usually hunched horribly by the end of a playing session on the computer.  Also...I can lay down on my couch and still play.

Nope, including online sales it was only 6 million (meaning only 2 million in the online gaming department)

As far as playing a game, it's always been easier for me to use a controller. Mouse and keyboard feels so excessive, it's too much to keep under controll. But consoles are cheaper in the long run, of course, games can get outdated rather fast graphically wise, but graphics ain't all. No need to get that new "Superflash Giga**** graphic" card every once in a while when you buy a new game your computer can't take.

Aye, Im not someone who always needs to best graphics in order to play a game...As long as the game itself is good, then I dont mind too much.  I come from the Atari 2600 and Commadore 64 generation so graphics arent the end all be all for me lol.

This is the other thing I don't get. Given the typical positions of a PC chair and a living room couch, the PC monitor is usually going to appear larger than the TV screen (in my living room I'd need a 90" TV to match my PC's screen.). Console interfaces always seem oversized and clunky when directly ported to PCs.

As for lying down, I think this has to do with your attitude towards gaming. If the game is any good in the first place, I don't want to lie down while playing it. For me gaming is a lean-forward activity. YMMV, obviously.

Nah...See the bed serves as a two fold apparatus.

*Serves as a place to sit while Im playing my game.  Which happens to be tons more comfy than any couch Ive ever had.

*If Im playing a game that is more story driven (MGS for example) I can lay down briefly and "relax" while Im watching the cut scenes.  Again, something my couch lacks the comfort for Image IPB

It would take thousands of dollars to spend on a couch to equal the comfort of my bed....

LOL, if you look at it that way, you have a point.  I sit in front of a computer screen all day at work though, so I really don't want to do it at home.  And don't say "Well, what's the difference?"  It's just my preference.

I personally don't like to lie down while gaming.  I'm usually sitting up transfixed by the screen.  Yeah, that sounds like I'm contradicting myself.
