I have had all of them except the Xbox line of consoles...To me they seem to last longer than PCs (as upgrades are constantly needed) and if you get a newer version of a console you can still usually sell the old one for more than you could say, a 2 year old PC

My 360's lasted me over 2 years now...I have an accessory attached to the back the adds additional "cooling fans" so it always operates at optimal temperature.  The Intercooler, or something like that lol...was only 25$

As I said before, I come from the Atari 2600 generation so consoles just feel more "second nature" to me.  Ive had every console there is to have really....Atari, NeoGeo, Jaguar, Sega/Genesis/CD, Turbo Graphix 16, NES, SNES, Sega Saturn, N64, Xbox, 360, and now PS3....
Dont have a Wii so I guess I havent had ALL of them lol

Yes, it's true... This man has no Wii.  Well, that's what I heard!

Did AotS list their statistics as total money sales? Because PC games average a lower price than Console games, and there are 3 consoles out there and only 1 PC (1.5... err... 2 if you include Mac).
But as for preference... I bounce around, a year ago I was playing almost everything on console, now I'm playing mostly on PC. I'm sure in another year, it'll switch around again. Also... I can use headphones while playing on my PC while consoles on the TV... I don't sit close enough to use headphones. Some people apparently don't like sound pollution...

This isn't news at all, really. It's been this way for years, although we do have the occasional series that sells well (Sims, Spore, for example).

I don't think it has anything to do with piracy or any BS like that, I think it's simply because console gaming is the cheaper and easier route to take. You can get a console for £200-250 that's game capable out of the box, and it'll play the latest games with no questions asked. With PC gaming, that luxury doesn't exist. Yeah, we get the better graphics on the PC, more accurate control methods, better controls for RPGs/RTSs (hotkeys, etc), but on a cost basis the consoles just win.

Still prefer the PC, though. Give me a gaming PC over a console any day.

The sales were based across all consoles as a whole I assume...Which is a moot point

I used to play consoles exclusively and I must admit they are better suited to certain games. Fortunately very few crazy action games that are not FPS make it to PC. I used to prefer FPS games on consoles too, due to their controllers, but I have come to appreciate the flexibility a keyboard and enough hotkeys offers.

The one thing I miss about console gaming is lying down while playing a good RPG. I only sit when a game is difficult enough to warrant my best reaction time. That's something I can't offer when my elbows are dug into a mattress. ;) The majority of last generation's console games were so easy I rarely had to make the extra effort. It made for a nice leisurely experience.

PC gaming has a lot of technical faff that many gamers just don't care to be bothered with. Many gamers don't want to research about hardware and have to upgrade components every year.

Consoles are convenient and cheap. Since gaming is a leisure activity there is nothing wrong with preferring a little convenience.

The greater accessibility and price advantage of consoles is the reason why consoles have always had an edge in the market over PC gaming.

Personally I am saddened about this development. I do not like consoles - the only one I use is XBox and that´s only for Halo.

I think the PC is far more convenient to play games, AND it allows modding, that means games - especially games like Oblivion or Warcraft3 can be expanded and become much better thant they used to be.

I hope the console market becomes smaller again and good games are produced with focus on the computer.

The main reason they are so popular is because not alot of people know how to mod very well....(myself included) and dont want to have to bother with learning tons of computer jargen/tech/etc. in oder to get more out of a game.

Say that after waiting a few years for the price to go down, to play a MMO. Only to have to download TONS of patches just to play online (WoW). While as the console just takes a few ( for ie Armored Core 4).

Modding would be awesome, but I don't have the computer NOR the money to get a cutting-edge computer so I stick with consoles. And I am more than happy with games like Shin Megami Tensei and Tales of series.

With WoW, you only have to download the latest client, latest content patch and then the minor ones after. Rarely ever (after the client) needs more than a gig or two of downloading.

If devs. release dev tools then yes. Changing skins and whatnot doesn't have an impact on my gaming.

Didn't seem that way to me. Maybe I messed something up. Doesn't matter, my trial had ran out. Image IPB

Busom....

When are you going to get it into your thick head, that its easier to copy a console game, is simpler and is far more widespread than you might think....

They've changed the trial client now. Downloads a small amount and then does the rest as you play.

It's also very easy to hack an xbox and pirate games at will.

Console games are 20 dollars more so that would lead to an increse not to mention the hits that came out like Modern Warfare 2 and Bad company 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 and Bioshock 2...

Holy **** thats alot of sequals!

Exactly my point Darht...

Funny though...as Busom exclaims his super *cough* PC...he must then be admitting that he also never buys PC games....as he assumes the rest of us dont?

And consoles are more popular (to get on topic) as the majority of games are not for the real gard core gamer......there are far more 'casual' pick up n play games for the console than there are for the PC....

They are aimed for different markets and people at the end of the day....and they both do what they do very well....

Though it does still annoy me that PC games (that are ported or devloped for both platforms) are continually held back due to a consoles long shelf life in terms of hardware....

Take ME3 for example...it could be an outstanding game....but no, that too is being developed for the current generation of console.....

it all comes down to comfort factor. sure graphics on consoles lack in comparison to pc but comfort is the decisive factor. Plus most folks don't want to deal with problems that are associated when playing new games on computer (crashes, game not running, etc. etc.).

I can't stand console controllers. Keyboard and mouse is so much faster if you know what you're doing that there's no comparison. There's a reason why some games (DA:O) have their difficulty decreased for the console version.

As for screen size, it all depends on where you sit. I find the interface elements of console games clunky and too big as a rule, and the fonts much too large (this does include ME2's interactive elements like door switches, fonts are borderline OK). It all lacks elegance - and I *still* read about people complaining the fonts are too small! I don't get it, just sit closer to the screen, people.

The only advantage I've seen from the popularity of console gaming is that I can actually play games on my PC with a three-year-old graphics card. But you do see it. Texture resolution is about a quarter of what I'd actually like to see - just look at Shepard's N7 armor in ME2.

I can understand people want to pay less for their platforms and have less technical problems with their games. But as for visual quality as well as controls, things have gone down. Quite a bit.

as for graphics I could care less. Just give me a well made game with a spectacular storyline and I wouldn't give a second thought about graphics.

My greatest peeve about all of this is that devs. are locking down on there games (for the sake of pushing out DLC's). Meaning less modding can be made.

Ninja Gaiden and Shin Megami Tensei series, hardcore games. And they are for the consoles too.

I'm sure PC gaming popularity is closer to consoles than you think. It's just harder to keep track of the number of PC fans since very few of them actually buy games.

Oh, again with the PC pirate stereotype, it's a minority (just like Mr Holtman states in the second link I have posted) like the people with hacked Xboxes that are not online or tracked due to being isolated from the internet, or the PS3's that have different OS's on them...why I have no idea I just use my PS3 to play games, but a majority of my gaming is on the PC anyway.

Honestly I think the Anti-Piracy measures are hurting PC games sales, if it's not DRM that needs a constant connection (which can be infuriating since not everyone has a reliable connection or they are still on some form of dial-up, or worse a free service), that resets your progress as soon as the connection flutters, or some form of protection that installs virtual devices and have the potential to cause havok with your OS.

I still take anything G4 announces as fact, with a pinch of salt, they thought Brutal Legend was better than DA:O for pete's sake (it's a story about a Jack Black ego basically, just like his movies)!

You have to remember that consoles sales covers every device considered a console, so PS3, 360, Wii, even the PS2 combined made that sales figure (not sure if handhelds are included in that figure), the PC is just one platform, so it actually made around the same amount of profit that one of the consoles could muster (actually divided by four it, made 250k more)...yeah PC gaming is dead, it's just making around the same kind of money that one individual console platform can bring in:P
