Nearing the end of my 2nd playthrough currently as a rogue, and after finishing this one I'll have the warrior class to play. I'm thinking of going for a pure DPS warrior because a tank main character seems boring. The only two things I've decided on are that it'll be a dwarf and a Spirit Warrior once I get through to Awakening.

Now, the thing I'm trying to decide is whether I should go for DW or 2H. I've heard that Momentum + Blessing of the Fade bugs somehow so that might just cut it for the 2H. Then again, 2H seems awfully slow and I might not like it... What are the pros and cons of these two specs? Also which specializations benefit them the most? I'm thinking Champion might be good for both because of Rally and War Cry.

Then for the reasons I picked dwarf and want to go for Spirit Warrior. Dwarf simply because I haven't played it yet and because it comes with a free +10% spell resistance which is quite awesome because I'd like to get 100% Spell Resistance. Spirit Warrior seemed like a good choice DPS wise because it allows me to skip armour completely. Also I like the visuals and the other bonuses it gives me, namely increased attack speed and spell resistance. How much spell sesistance will I need through gear and enhancements on top of the dwarf racial bonus and the bonus from Spirit Warrior to get to 100%? Also what's the bug concerning increased attack speed?

Thanks for any help!

If you're set on spirit warrior, champion/templar would be a good mix and would fit the best RP wise. Champion has one sustainable and templar is more passive in some ways. Just keep in mind that beyond the veil drains stamina very quickly and will turn off ALL sustainables when you're out. Mix that with momentum and you'll be exhausted after every fight. Holy smite and fade burst both rely on willpower for damage so don't skimp here.

I never noticed any stamina problems playing through Awakening with my main tank being a Spirit Warrior. I guess I'll need to look into stamina regeneration gear then as well...

Spell Resistance Stacking for Dual-Wield Warrior:

Dwarf: 10%

Spellward: 30%

KC Plate: 40%

Grandmaster Dweomer Rune (main hand weapon): 10%

Grandmaster Dweomer Rune (off hand weapon): 10%

Boom. Spell immunity.

Looks good to me. That leaves boots, gloves, helmet, belt and rings to choose as I like!

Then to the other question; how much stamina regeneration will I need in order to sustain Momentum and Beyond the Veil? Also if it isn't possible to get this much stamina regeneration, could I substitute Momentum with a few attack speed runes? And further to the point of attack speed, isn't there a bug going on with too much increased attack speed going on at once ending up at zero or something?

If you want all-out dps you should go dualwielder. It beats everything else hands-down.

Personally I found Twohander funny, too, especially with the better 2handed mod, but it has worse DPS.

On the other hand, when used correctly both will be imba, so it doesn´t matter that much after all.

Afaik there is; However, you can avoid that by using momentum + beyond the veil + precise striking, as precise striking slows you. Thus your AS will be shortly below the point where it bugs.

I have experienced neither the bug nor the workaround firsthand though, so I don´t know if this is true.

A dual-wielding Templar with spell immunity is pure mage-killer. You can ignore their spells, stun them, and drain mana with every strike (and you should be striking a LOT). Emissaries and Blood Mages go from "Andraste's Mercy, not again!" to "Oh, was that a mage? He didn't even have time to cast a spell."

I quite like the sound of a dual wielding Templar :P

What I'm looking at then is probably close to this: Templar/Champion/Spirit Warrior with dual wield. Sustaining Momentum, Beyond the Veil, Rally and Precise Striking will need quite a bit of stamina regeneration though if I ever plan to use activated abilities.

So, any tips on the gear outside KC Plate and Spellward? I think Wade's superior gloves had some stamina regeneration in them and some swords have that as well. I'm planning to get the DLC things this week so any DLC items suggested are fine.

Andruil's Blessing gives +1 stamina and +1 mana regen, so it effectively gives +2 of a single one. If you want an extensive equipment list, check the wiki. dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Age_Wiki

About the superior armor, can you even get that anymore? Last time I had Wade's dragonscale made it was regular. If you want to be a real talent spammer, get Wade's medium armor. With Andruil's Blessing and Maric's blade from RtO that gave -25% fatigue with no sustainables active.

Let's see then about the equipment;

Helmet: Helm of Honnleath probably, unless there is something better available
Chest: Knight Commander's plate for the obvious spell resistance
Gloves: Wade's Superior plate, for stamina regeneration
Boots: also Wade's for the same reason
Amulet: Spellward for more spell resistance
Belt: Andruil's for stamina regeneration
Ring 1: Wicked Oath for more stamina regen
Ring 2: Key to the City; +2 to all attributes seems about the best that I can get

Weapon 1: Duncan's Blade with Grandmaster Dweomer Rune and two damage runes, again for more stamina
Weapon 2: probably Starfang first, Vigilance later on. Again with a Grandmaster Dweomer and the rest filled with damage runes.

This should get me:
More than 100% spell resistance with Beyond the Veil and dwarf bonus
8 stamina regeneration in combat plus whatever the base stamina regeneration is.
Some nice random stat boosts

Seems fine to me!

Don't forget that Maric's Blade also has a stamina regen boost, and can be upgraded to Tier 7 for the rune slots.

Yeah, might pick that instead of Starfang. Also might swap Wade's boots for Cailan's just to get that +20% chance to dodge attacks.

It does, doesn't it! Insane stamina regeneration combined with spell immunity and fast attack speed pretty much equals a hyperactive dwarf who's immune to spells. Something like close to "Enchantment!" but then closer to just ripping everything he comes across into pieces.

I wouldn't mind meeting a person like your character IRL. Might actually get to keep a sparring partner for once. Almost lose a thumb and they sodding run away crying. Cowards.
