Handheld is a guy from Mongolia who speaks in nothing but the third person.

I heard he got banned once.

I have been baned three times...for derailing :bandit:

he stopped posting once the legacy boards were closed and has not been active in months. his posting style was pretty much exclusively posting in the third person perspective. again, my suggesting him is a joke, not because he isn't competent, but just because I think his posting style in the context of moderation = hilarity.

That's just it. Some forumites got their thing.

Like Javier. I haven't had a good convo with him since he became a mod.

COINCIDENCE?

Haven't seen him around, and all the mods/devs are out living life, so its almost like you're signing your time away by becoming one.

I think the moderators that work at BioWare Edmonton directly (like Stanley Woo) are continuously playtesting the components for Mass Effect 3 during their work hours.

Unless they get really long vacations after a game is released...

I see Stanley Moderate the Off Topic forums more, I think he defers to Javier more on the ME boards.

Well, looks like Javier's gonna need some help then.

But I'm thinking the mods figure they'll be ok.

In a year or so, they'll all be back here getting us hyped up, answering questions, giving us more questions, and dropping the banhammer.

Indeed, Woo is quite fond of the ban hammer himself...

By that time this forum will be settled down... hopefully... the Dragon Age forums have at least

Yeah, but that can be a bad thing.

Handheld got suspended for 30 days awhile back because someone created an account under the name, "Heldhand".

They trolled. Mods figured it was Handheld making an alt account, so they suspended him.

It got corrected, but that goes to show that with every positive, there's a negative.

They'll all be back modding once this place picks up steam. But for now, I think they need assistance.

Well, in that case, if the people saying I have alternate accounts were speaking the truth (don't know why they would say that!), then I should have been perma-banned about 10 times over already.

Probably means mods wouldn't even think about making you one of them.

Same with me, except its because of my mouth. I spoke like a friggen sailor.

I've gotten over it since then, but the only way I'm EVER becoming a mod is if Chris can accept that I won't let words slip anymore.

I really like the idea of stickying or somehow consolidating or streamlining the character-love threads. i don't object to them at all, but the forum is very cluttered with love threads. sadly, if you sticky them all, then the whole front page will also be cluttered ..a little more neatly.

i'd love to see love threads less cluttersome.

Split this forum into one specifically for character discussion and support, and another for storyline discussion, IMO.

i was just thinking that, there should be a character only forum, and then separate love threads from the story/quest forum.

edit - technically there is a "characters" forum but it is not the appropriate place for love threads. why is this? i would love to see love threads move to the characters forum, which is pretty under-utilized compared to the story/quest forum.

Yeah but one of the problems is that character discussion kind of ties in with storyline discussion.  The support threads themselves should be relegated elsewhere but they really should just stay in the subgroups.

I really don't know why you need to state majority/minority as qualifers. One of my things on the wishlist for ME3 is a stronger story; is that a minority view?
Do you know the count of people that are for or against the various points about ME2 that get brought up? The constant appeals to majority rules seems like you do.

Actually, I've noticed whenever your avatar is on the "last post" side of the Mass Effect 2 Campaign forum, and it seems like you avoid posting on this forum for the most part. Unless the thread is something I'm heavily participating in - or, in this case, the thread is about me, and it's not getting locked.

There isn't a lot in this section of the forum that I want to comment on. Ugly Shepard is a good read. I liked the thread about Grunt being a duck. Fan threads are cool. I don't post in threads to insult or get threads locked. If I am reading a thread and there are people derailing the content or just flatout attacking people, yea I will post here. That might be the commonality you are seeing between us.

Finding me to be quite interesting, are you? :wizard:

Not any more then any other poster. What was interesting were the claims you put up. Those spurred me to post and state you would not be able to accomplish changing the ban policy or altering account creation to limit how many accounts a person could make.

If that were the case, then you'd focus on how Mass Effect 3 can be made better instead of why Mass Effect 2 is terrible. Even then, asking BioWare (of all game developers) to make a better story is about as vague as asking for a better game.

Ironically, how much they can focus on the main plot of Mass Effect 3 is heavily dependent on the character development from Mass Effect 2. If they decide to scrap all the characters from Mass Effect 2 (and Mass Effect 1), then it's likely that we'll see another game spent recruiting and doing character based missions, causing the main plot to be an afterthought, even with the trilogy ending.

In other words, if most of the well-developed characters from both games carry over into Mass Effect 3 (as in, they have major roles as squadmates or elsewhere), then Mass Effect 3 can be entirely focused on the main Reaper plot, and we'll get a better story without BioWare breaking a sweat.

Me mentioning the story was only a small example to question your appeals. This thread is no place for a detailed explanation of what I think of the story.
Let's not continue the derailing and stay on topic and the intial reason I commented here.
You won't have the power to change the ban policy and you won't have the ability to restrict account creation any more then it already is.

This is the Mass Effect 2 Official Campaign Forum. This thread never had any rails to derail from. :police:

Also, you do realize by now that this:

1. An organized forum for sticky'd character support threads, making the Official Campaign forum clear for story and mission discussion.
2. Longer bans and (three) strikes rule for those who post vulgar or hateful images or content
3. Increased moderator presence in each of the Mass Effect forums to lock bad threads quicker
4. Restrictions to prevent the abuse of loopholes in repeatedly creating new accounts (!)
5. Driving the Reapers back into dark space

...Was a joke?

Unless you want to get into a "serious" discussion on whether I can drive the Reapers back into dark space as a moderator.

TJSolo wrote...

5. Know way you could stop the Reapers by yourself. You can't possibly promise that much as a moderator. Stop being so delusional in trying to stop the Reapers. You can't just ban them out of existence.

Stop promising things you couldn't do..so pointless.

But I can ban them out of existence! Can't you see?

THE REAPERS ARE STILL OUT THERE.

AND IT'S UP TO ME TO STOP THEM.

I didn't comment on 5 as that was clearly a joke.

Numbers 1-4, don't read as jokes. 1 and 3 are things people are talking about openly even in this thread not for the /lol.

Damn, and here I was going to post how the thread got drag down into a ME1 story discussion. I had mildly funny pictures and everything ! :crying:.

Just for that I'm voting null for Ecael election (or alternatively, I'll just scribble "Chuck Norris" like I did on the latest presidential election).

EDIT: stupid quote brackets =/

The joke, I think, relied much on the idea that "moderators" aren't like politicians. The implied similarity where there is none was the joke. Ecael has shown support several of the points before but I think she knows better than to assume she can unilaterally change policy and I think she expected others to understand that as well. #5 was placed there specifically to indicate the list's jocular nature.

BTW, thanks for the signature. I don't feel insulted at all and would love to hear your well-rounded, intellectually engaging opinion. [/sarcasm]
