This may all be my memory / interpretation playing tricks on me, and I'm not sure if anyone else has brought this up, but the search function here doesn't really seem to work, so...

In The Calling, Maric's illegitimate son (Alistair) was born after Rowan died, yet in the game Loghain says that part of Maric's reason for not acknowledging him was that it would have put doubts on Cailan's claim to the throne and turn Rowan into nothing more than a concubine or some such.  That doesn't seem consistent to me, although I guess it's technically possible that Maric did it to protect Rowan's memory and not her actual self, since she was dead...

Also, talks of Alistair's mother said she was a servant in Redcliffe, when in The Calling she was a Grey Warden mage, and didn't she leave Ferelden for good at the end of the book?  Or was this talk of Alistair's mother and Maric referring to his foster mother or something? It all confused me.

I've only just finished the Landsmeet, so if there are other game spoilers past that on this topic I'd appreciate them being absent or at least clearly marked.

It's possible that David Gaider originally wrote it the way it is in game, and then changed it when he wrote the calling. Or it's possible that, as you said, it was speaking of her memory, and not her. Also it's very possible, however unlikely, that the illegitimate son in The Calling and Alistair are two different people. But most likely, it's either a case of David Gaider writing the plot in the game, and then changing it when he wrote The Calling, or a case of Alistair being told lies about his real mother.
