Get the comics this week.

I don't really know what to say. Don't want to be negative or whiney but this wasn't what I expected.
The artwork was strange. Strange poses, faces. Like the artist wanted to give the characters visible emotions so much that he totally overdid it. The normal facial expressions are not the ones Jim Carrey shows...
The story wasn't really well developed and presented. Common problems with western comics, this could easily take 4-5 times pages to still be exciting and interesting. And the maybe we didn't feel that Liara is acting like some kind of bully, wrecking everything around her, almost mindlessly. There is no character developement in the comics, nothing that shows us how the naive archeologist becomes that cold hunter we see in ME2 (I don't mind the change but this didn't show us what really happened).
The dialogs just doesn't seem right. Sometimes like an amateur fanfics. Like TIM calling Liara at her first name? Dr. or Ms. T'soni would be more appropriate I think. While all know wery little about the collectors, their mention is enought that Aria turn into scared wimpy mode (totally wtf that scene), or a trader to betray his employer, and treat them like the worst of the galaxy. OK, we who played ME2 know that they are the worst, but not the characters in the comics....

So. After the novels and the games this comics was a big disappointment. The staff at bioware can do way better than this. :(

People:

You were not missing out on much. Truly. The book was not a stellar showing. The effort that went into the comic did not match the level of quality that the Mass Effect intellectual property deserves.  The story was kind of okay but forgettable. Liara behaves in a way that was a bit discordant to how she is in ME2... frankly the Liara character was kind of a spaz in this story... but that's a nitpick.

The real injustice was the art. One of the things that makes for a quality book would be consistency of the art.  However, if you look at the face of the Liara character throughout all the issues, it does not look like the same character in every frame where the Liara character makes an appearance. Professionally speaking, I do not think it is asking much to be consistent in rendering when being paid to draw a comic book.

Perhaps Mass Effect: Redemption was likely done in too much of a hurry? Compare just the faces of the characters from page to page and make scanned cut-outs for side by side comparison. I'm willing to bet that the differences in rendering of Liara's will be even more readily obvious.  Other characters in this limited series suffer similar fates.

Having seen some of the art posted in these forums even for simple things like the "Me + Garrus" joke thread, this community could have easily put together something that would put the commercial comic book release to abject shame, even if the very same dialogue was used.

I've seen the artist's web site. I do not understand why the the Mass Effect: Redemption series did not come out better. The artist was clearly capable of such, based on what I see in the personal website.

Note that I did NOT say "the comic's art SUCKS". The book is simply not an example of the collaborators' best, individual works.  IMHO, it should have been.

TLDR: This release was dissapointing. Don't chalk this up as a missed opportunity.
