Fine, fine. B)

They'll have snipers outside, anyway.

Apparently, according to EA's executives, Mass Effect sold only 1.6 million units out of 2 million units shipped.

Um...the article was praising ME2 as one of the reasons EA was able to prevent total melt down and made a billion dollars in revenue last quarter.  And it sold 1.6 million copies in North America and Europe and 2 million world wide, not that it shipped 2 million and only sold 1.6.  The EA executives said that was a highlight, something that exceeded their sales projections.

Read the article again.  That was a good result for Bioware and that title.  Money was made, executives are happy.

An article calling ME2 a 'top performer' seems an odd one to cite to show that ME2 did not sell well.

Bumping this up. ME2 did not sell poorly. If you guys read the whole article you would know that ME2 is one of Biowares strongest sales in there company history andt here best rated game.

You do realise that the weastern RPG has a comparativly smaller dedicated fanbase right? and the Intense gutting of several core Weastern RPG elements in ME2 is likly to alienate quite a few of the more hardcore weastern RPG fans

If you actually, read the article you would see that EA got out of the red because of Mass Effect 2 not that you care to get your fact straight or not.

I guess that when you're in to politics you get the notion to read the articles, and do your own research, because that is a way to make a informed judgment on certain issues . Plus, the fact that it sold 1.2 million copies, so each copy is $60.00 in retail price that would be about a billon dollars, if I got my math correct.

So, I would also say it did pretty well. in sells for RPG's considering not many people like western Role playing games.

However, saying this proves that the game is not good, because it didn't sell over 5 million copies is just ridiculous. It just like the argument that Twilight is good book, because it sold well. which is total bull **** by the way.

A game doesn't need to sell every copy to be profitable. Nor should it necessarily. Producing a surplus is standard operating practice for companies. Sure, they'd like it to sell out if they have a ready ability to produce more copies, but they don't need it to. ME2 has sold pretty well actually. It's in the top 10 sales bracket for 2010 so far.

I'd be curious also to see how sales compare to ME1 at this point, relatively - so, say, around March 2008 (cutting out PC sales for ME2 obviously).

Didn't ME1 also sell 1.6 million copies on the Xbox 360 in 6 weeks since release?

I'd hate to see what amateur mall security (M-Sec?) looks like then.

Also, how come no one else has noticed that their Chief Operating Officer's name is JOHN SCHAPPERT?

SOMEBODY needs to read the article more carefully before they decide to give everybody a FALSE ALARM.

Looking on the somewhat bright-side here, but if ME2 ends up selling less copies than ME it could possibly encourage Bioware/EA to spend more time catering to old fans?

Ok, I'll admit that the above scenario is unlikely to occur; but still, a man can dream right?

I get the feeling you don't understand how many one million is. One million seconds is twelve days.

well hears the way i look at it as awesome as ME2 was the best i can tell bioware wasn't really shooting for the stars sales wise and as long as the game turned a profit the "issue" really isn't worth delving any further into (imo), yes having the extra recognition/income would be a nice feather in the caps of Bioware/EA but with games like ME2, blowing the sales charts out of the water seldom seems necessary.

Iron Man 2 made $330M worldwide on its opening weekend.

Wow, Mass Effect 2 sure sucks.

Wait, what?

The OP did not even read the whole article. That was NA sales. ME2 sold more then ME and is still selling, not to mention, thanks to ME2, ME sales have went up.

lol, it's only natural for the general public to go with FIFA and BBC instead of ME. I thought that was.... let's not say common sense, but it's definitely something we just can't deny.

Yeah FIFA is insanely popular guys. So is Battlefield. You take a popular game with multiplayer you can expect more sales. Plus they are on multiple platforms. ME 2 is only on 2 and it is a single player experience.

For a RPG, ME2 did very well. ME2 is not going to sell like a FPS or a sport game. They never do.

Mass Effect sold 2.2 million copies just on the 360. Just to put things into perspective, I don't see ME2 catching up.

Mass Effect 2 is off to a hotter start than Mass Effect 1. It has shipped more units to retailers you can expect it to surpass ME 1 soon.

ME2 sold 1.6 million in NA, there is other countries. ME2 did better in sales. Nice try. Plus you forget that ME came out two years ago. Of course it`s gonig to have a high number.

Everyone seems to forget how crowded Mass Effect 1's release was and how much competition it had. At this stage Mass Effect 2 has less competition. I had a thought in here somewhere. Wait yes, did Mass Effect even make the top 10 on NPD when it came out?

EDIT:  Yes I believe it did now that I recall.  I think The Orange Box's sales were initially slower than Mass Effect.  Could be wrong again that was so long ago

ME2 did very well indeed, but that doesn't change the fact that people will ALWAYS choose games like FIFA and Battlefiel rather than a magnificent singleplayer sci-fi epic.

ME2 did :wizard: and I also beleive it was the best selling game in January, even th it came out at the end of the month. ME2 is donig very well compared to ME. It took two years for ME to get past two mil, ME2 is closer to doing it and it has not even been out for a whole year yet.

Left 4 Dead had an interesting arc. It didn't chart in the first month very highly but then 2 months later it really picked up in popularity. In regards to NPD anyway

EDIT:  Word of mouth is kind of what got Mass Effect its popularity much in the same, almost posted a non sequitor

ME sold 2.2 million TOTAL. ME 2 1.6 TOTAL with NA and Europe.

And yeah, ME did come out two years ago. Given that ME 2 is linked to ME 1, I predict ME 1 will see further sales down the road. This won't happen until ME 3 comes out and ME 2 is linked to it, EVEN THEN the first game will be the basis for all of them.

Nice try. -_-
