ME2 did very well indeed, but that doesn't change the fact that people will ALWAYS choose games like FIFA and Battlefiel rather than a magnificent singleplayer sci-fi epic.

Of course, I am just saying, that ME2 is a very sucesful game for Bioware, both comerically and critiacly. It is the 16 or highest (forget) highest rated game of all time, it is almost close to 2 million and it has not even been out for a year and it will most likely win alot of awards. ME2 did what Bioware and EA wanted.

Which is something it took ME two years to do, ME2 is already clsoe too it and it`s not even a year. ME2 was a huge succes. No Bioware game will ever be on Halo or Call of Dutys level.

Mass Effect sold 2.2 million copies just on the 360. Just to put things into perspective, I don't see ME2 catching up.

Mass Effect sold ~1.35 million copies on the console in its first 10 weeks (PC version wasn't released until months later).

Mass Effect 2 sold ~1.65 million copies on the console in its first 10 weeks (PC version was released concurrently with console version).

Also, the DLC pipeline in Mass Effect 2 is bringing in far more revenue than Mass Effect 1 ever could.

This number is incorrect as I did not factor in PC sales.

However from what I have read regarding 360 sales it would seem that PC sales may be a bit... low

EDIT: bah, conflicting articles are conflicting

People who bought Mass Effect 2 and didn't purchase Mass Effect might do so later on. This is why I don't believe it will catch in sales.

And as far as DLC goes, yeah, that's a typical EA move making people pay for content that was already created when the game launched. EA is also screwing over the used game market with what they are doing in regards to online activation for sports games. It's really no surprise that DLC will bring in money and that ME 2 is another vehicle for them to make more sales.

Face it. ME2 is and did better then ME did. The point that ME2 is the 15 or 16 highest rated game off all time also says alot. Numbers prove you are wrong.

I'd be curious also to see how sales compare to ME1 at this point, relatively - so, say, around March 2008 (cutting out PC sales for ME2 obviously).

Looking on the somewhat bright-side here, but if ME2 ends up selling less copies than ME it could possibly encourage Bioware/EA to spend more time catering to old fans?

Ok, I'll admit that the above scenario is unlikely to occur; but still, a man can dream right?

If Mass Effect 2 really sold less than Mass Effect 1 (which isn't the case, considering the pacing of both), then either of two things would happen:

1. Mass Effect 1 would be blamed for not engaging fans enough to make them want the second game

or

2. BioWare Edmonton would be liquidated by EA, and Mass Effect 3 will cease to exist

Neither is the case, and Mass Effect 1 provided a good lead-in for Mass Effect 2.

Not quite sure why everyone insists on being negative. The articles make it quite clear ME2's one of EA's top games (not the top, but I'd hardly expect it to be) that's keeping it afloat.

As I mentioned above, that's assuming that there are more people who bought Mass Effect 1 and then never bothered to purchase Mass Effect 2. That doesn't look good for Mass Effect 1 or the trilogy in general.

And as far as DLC goes, yeah, that's a typical EA move making people pay for content that was already created when the game launched. EA is screwing over the used game market with what they are doing in regards to online activation for sports games. It's really no surprise that DLC will bring in money.

The content wasn't already created before the game launched, there simply wasn't any time or resources to finish it by the release date. Just ask any of the BioWare developers on the forum - they have a dedicated DLC team that started work right after the game went gold.

Sure, EA might have set the release date a bit early, but what's wrong with getting a game much earlier when it's practically complete? It's a lot better than waiting months and months just to include every bit of content possible and also better than never seeing the content at all.

It's better to expect the worst because then you are more likely to be pleasantly surprised.

Adults are talking. so leave your jagged comments at the door.

That being said, here is a sales chart comparing ME and ME 2:

Stronger opening yes, but I'd like to know the numbers of those who bought ME 2 without having purchased ME 1. I think that's a huge factor in overall sales.

Discussing which game will sell better has nothing to do with which game is better. Nice try.

I expected the worst when I got DOA Extreme 2 and it delivered in spades, horrible terrible spades.  So I say better to not expect anything at all.
Mother****ers be chill about things, see what happens.  I was sure I was going to hate Awakenings for some of the design decisions but going into it, I was like hmm this seems to be more like a spinoff.  And by that it was alright.

Sure it has major problems, buggy POS, and it feels like 1/3 of the game is cut off.  But wait I just kind of reinforced you point.  Damnit.
