I definitely would pick Garrus because of his capabilities and because he was there since square one in Mass Effect. If I had to choose someone to trust in the Mass Effect series as Commander Shepherd, it'd be no one else than Garrus.
Miranda because she's actually a good biotic. She can fight too. And I'm sure after you romance her in Mass Effect 2, she'd definitely always have your back Haha. But she's one to not fool around with emotions in a mission. She's one to just get the job done and I would like that as a Commander. Also as a male Commander, I couldn't just be surrounded by guys, need at least one girl, and Miranda looks the best out of all of the females IMO.
A combo of Garrus and Miranda would be great. If you had to consult your squad over a tough decision, Miranda would give you the utilitarianism way of doing the job no matter what the cost and Garrus would make you consider the ethical solution behind a decision. I play as a vanguard most often and my squads usually consist of a little tech, and mostly people who are good with weapons and biotics. So all I would need is Garrus's tech and his sniper, Miranda's pistol and her biotics, and my biotics and assault rifle (specialization) and I'm good to go.

Garrus and Tali, cause they were my faveourites from ME1 anyway (well, them and Wrex), and they're allready in 2, so that takes them more than halfway through the trillogy allready.
Besides, I like Garrus' personality and his comments, and I want to continue my romance with Tali with more than just a chance meeting on some planet somewhere.

Garrus because he is the only one who have supported me 100% from the start. No second guessing or disobeying orders.
Second one is hard but anyone from ME1 is good. In general I like all the characters from MEU. But, I'm more attached to the characters from ME1.

Garrus and tali...period. Only ones from first squad to actually be loyal, who understand what is at stake.
hell tali understood the need for cohesion, SHE worked with Legion.....a Geth....worked with me, even though Cerberus was funding our operation...and Ash/Kaiden....couldn't ????? sorry but screw them. right now, if I had to choose between humanity and Quarians, I pretty much save the quarians...hell I'd saved an entire geth world, and let Arcturus burn.
Although...fix tali's weapons.....god she was not so desirable in ME2..... seriouesly, if they dont have Assault rifles, by default they should at least have SMG's.......
really....who goes into a fight...with a pistol and a shotgun today? what makes you think we will do so in the future?

Legion to facilitate Geth truce (if there is one).
Liara as she may be the most powerful / influential intelligence network in the galaxy.

It´s difficult because I like many companions, but if I can have only 2 I´ll go for Liara and Legion.
Liara, because she is the most beautiful girl in the galaxy and my all-time love, and Legion because he´s the most interesting NPC.

Tali (shouldn't really have to explain that one) and Legion because he's a Geth Infiltrator and he's so darn cool. I really like all the squadmates though. They stick with you like characters from a show you've been watching for a really long time.

Probably Ashley and Wrex ... somewhat weird combination, but I got used to them in ME1. Garrus was not bad either.
As for non-squad members, definitely Chakwas.

(1) Miranda, because of all the reasons I've given in the OP of the Miranda thread (see my sig), because I resonate with her on so many levels, because she represents where I want my Shepard and humanity in general to go.
(2) Legion, because they bring a unique perspective into the story. Legion is the only character (if you can even call it that) who is noticeably different from humans in outlook, and their conversations are always very interesting.

Easy sauce: Garrus and Tali.
Garrus: Collar-poppin', scopin' and droppin', what more needs to be said?
Tali: She and Shep are getting married, da-hoi.

Ashley, because I found her motivation and flaws made her an interesting character and as a fellow Alliance soldier, she always had my back in a fight. And with her no-nonsense attitude, she was like the sister my femshep never had.
and Liara because, well, she's Liara and my LI from ME1. Considering how much she seems to have changed in the last two years (when two years is a drop in the ocean for their lifespan) I want to see where Bioware is taking her. I fear it is not a good place!

Garrus is the man! I love in ME1 whenever you choose a renegade response he would say 'Exactly...' He's pure cool. My second choice is Zaeed, though he's (oh so unfortunately) not fleshed out properly, his personality of a hard english bastard is just what the game needs, it's good to know that even so far into the future there are still 'old school' hard as nails sons of b*tches!

For some reason, Zaeed reminds me of a more beat-up version of Kal Skirata... but yeah I'd have loved him to be as fleshed out as the other NPCs, or for him to have a few more war stories to tell.

And the same can be said of Kasumi of course, its such a shame they did that aye! Why would you want to half ass it? Especially with a game as character driven as mass effect! Though i don't want to start a whinge session about it! I just hope Zaeed makes his way to me3! Garrus is a shoe in, and rightly so.

Garrus and Tali I guess.
I know more about them than any other character. It's almost like they've been with me since before I was even a Spectre, so they deserve to be there when Shepard finally repels the Reaper threat.

Garrus and Tali are the only two that have been in the first two and I love them both.SO I will pick two others.
Ashley.I got her and clicked with her on most levels.Yea she was a little misguided on the whole alien thing, but given her background, and the fact that you can change her viewpoint on the matter...its alright. Her canned treatment in me2 was horrendous though.
Moradin(sp) My goodness this guy had me in stitches one moment, somberly quiet the next...yea I enjoyed what they did with him.

Tali is a no-brainer of course. Then I'd want Liara there too. Kind of missed her in the sequel and no, those two minutes don't count.
Runner ups: Garrus, Miranda, Mordin. The others can be blown to bits, I really don't care.

Garrus & Liara.
Although I would sorely miss Kasumi.
Explanations!...
-Garrus is Garrus. I don't feel that he requires one.
-Liara is my "canon" Shep's LI from the first game, and I just liked her for some reason. She also is well connected with information now in the second game and that could come in handy.

Garrus: what everyone else said, Shepard is practically his mentor, and he's like Batman.
Anderson: I wish he could be a squadmate because he has had Shepard's back since the beginning.

Garrus and Jack, definitely. Garrus because he's my main man who's been through thick and thin with me, I love his wisecracking attitude, and I always like to have a sniper on my backup squad. Jack because she's my love interest and a badass biotic.
